Sunrise was commissioned by Backshore Artists Project Inc. on the occasion of Carol Wincenc’s 40th anniversary on the concert stage and underwritten by a generous grant from Linda and Stuart Nelson.The work is dedicated to Carol Wincenc for this very special occasion.It starts slowly with the bass flute leading a dark dream-like section with a theme that is marked rubato seductive. The viola echoes this melody but ties to move it to another key. Eventually the tempo quickens as the harp adds a new theme which the others soon copy.A new section svegliato (awakening) follows where the harp and viola encourage the flute to join them in a sprightly scherzo whichgrows to a climax to herald the sunrise. Here the viola leads with a glowing theme. After the flute has echoed this melody the mood quietens and in a peaceful coda the flute ‘remembers’ the theme from the very opening: it is now bathed in sunlight and is marked luminous.

Sonata for Flute Viola and Harp-The middle work in the three late chamber music sonatas was composed in spring 1915 directly after the Cello sonata (HN 633). The innovative combination of sounds a Wind instrument a Stringed instrument and a Pluckedinstrument greatly contributes to the impression of restrained melancholy. Debussy himself confirmed it saying: ?It is terribly sad. And I do not know whether one should laugh or cry about it? Perhaps both at the sametime?? On another occasion he emphasised the similarities with his own compositional style of the 1890s remarking of the sonata: ?It reminds me of a very old Claude Debussy the one of the Nocturnes?.

While those for flute and violin belong to Telemann?s most popular works today, the fantasias for viola da gamba were unknown throughout much of recent history until a copy of these fantasias was rediscovered in 2015. For this edition, flautist Leona Rötzsch arranged the viola da gamba fantasias for solo flute, thereby complementing Telemann?s flute fantasias with another set of twelve. Serenade for Flute Violin and Viola in D major op. 25-What occasioned Beethoven to write a composition for such an unusual and yet sonorous group of instruments? Was it perhaps commissioned by a nobleman who played music with such a group and needed music? Whatever thereason behind it Opus 25 is one of Beethoven’s few chamber music works that did not have a Bass instrument. Despite the unusual combination of instruments Beethoven had no difficulty in finding apublisher for his serenade; shortly afterwards he even turned to the work again and revised an arrangement for Flute and Piano (Op. 41) which had been made by a third party. Our revised edition follows the musical text which willsoon be published in volume VI/1 of our new Beethoven Complete Edition.

The Flute Collection. Par SCHUMANN ROBERT. Remarks in his household books indicate that Robert Schumann (1810–1856) composed the Märchenbilder (Fairy-Tale Pictures) for piano and viola (or violin) op. 113 in just four days between 1st and 4th March, 1851, in Düsseldorf. Schumann only gradually came to the title Märchenbilder. The four pieces are unified by their shared opus number and keys (D minor, F major, D minor, D major), but the first edition published them in two volumes (Vol. 1: Nos. 1 and 2; Vol. 2: Nos. 3 and 4). Clearly, the Märchenbilder op. 113 do not need to be performed as a group but can be played in pairs or individually. The present arrangement is based upon the viola part. The viola's ambitus, when transposed up an octave, matches that of the flute. Solutions from the violin part have also been used on occasion. The double stops in the second piece were, for example, already simplified in the violin version. At such points the violin part provides a model for further simplifications in the flute part. Yamamoto Perpetuo was written by Michael Nyman for solo Violin in 1993 to a commission by fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto for his show that year in Paris. Following its success Nyman added a second Violin Viola and Celloto the solo line and turned it into his String Quartet No.4. This arrangement by Andy Findon for solo Flute restores the work as a stand-alone piece for one player in eleven sections drawing additionally upon material fromthe quartet version.
