Zimbe! Come sing the songs of Africa! is the 40-minute choral fusion of African song and jazz for SATB chorus children’s choir and jazz quintet which established composer Alexander L’Estrange's name worldwide and spawned a hugely successful series of large-scale works for the same forces. The addition of the children’s choir provides an opportunity for adult or secondary school SATB choirs to team up with local primary school or youth choirs bringing communities together through singing something for which L'Estrange has long been a passionate advocate. The work opens and closes with anattention-grabbing Njooni Zimbe*! Nyimbo za Africa! imploring us to 'Come sing the Songs of Africa!'; by the time you've heard the vibrant sequence of twelve songs which includes playground wedding funeral drinking protest worship songs and lullabies you will want to do just that. Zimbe! is the ideal piece for choirs who have enjoyed performing L'Estrange's Songs of a Rainbow Nation works by Karl Jenkins or David Fanshawe's African Sanctus. This contemporary setting combines a familiar spiritual with a Biblical text from the book ofMatthew. G.F. Handel's masterful L'Allegro Il Penseroso Ed Il Moderato have been expertly-edited by Donald Burrows to present this complete vocal score arranged for two Soprano Tenor and Bass Soli with an SATB Chorus and Orchestra. This complete edition of L'Allegro Il Penseroso Ed Il Moderato features the 1740 1741 and 1743 scores reflecting Handel's personal changes involving alternative and additional movements. The 1740 score is a complete reconstruction requiring two Soprano  a Tenor and a Bass soloists. For the longer 1741 score Handel added extra movements toaccommodate additional soloists the complete version of which is included here. Finally the 1743 score boasts a radical change from the previous years with a removal of part three and a significant rearrangement of other movements.  L'Allegro Il Penseroso Ed Il Moderato was first performed on the 27th of February 1740 at the Lincoln's Inn Fields theatre after just over a month of drafting. The work is a setting of a libretto by James Harris and Charles Jennens based on John Milton's two complementary yet contrasting poems about the relative virtues of happiness and melancholy.  This edition of L'Allegro Il Penseroso Ed Il Moderato presents practical versions of the score which are based on the musical schemes of Handel's performances in 1741 and 1743. For a complete vocal score of this masterpiece by one of the all-time great composers this Novello Handel Edition is authoritative.

This is the 'a capella' version of Alexander L’Estrange’s beautiful mixed voice composition Lute-book Lullaby and is the latest addition to the highly acclaimed Faber New Choral Works series.First performed by the choir Tenebrae directed by Nigel Short who also commissioned the work it was first performed on 12th September 2002 at St Luke's Chelsea London at a concert in support of Downs Syndrome.The piece can be found on the Signum Records CD Mother and Child (SIGCD501) performed by Tenebrae and Nigel Short.
