Par COLERIDGE-TAYLOR SAMUEL. The period of composition (ca. 1893) for the Suite de Pièces for violin and piano or violin and organ was especially productive for Samuel Coleridge-Taylor (1875-1912) in the realm of chamber music. Unpublished works include a piano quintet, clarinet sonata, nonet, piano trio, and a piano sonata. It is notable that the different versions of the Suite for piano and organ are so contrasting. Typically, pieces in this genre that exist in versions for piano and organ have little that separate them in terms of musical content. However, Coleridge-Taylor not only approaches each keyboard instrument quite differently but conceived the violin part with notable melodic differences. This can be considered exceptional as they were both issued by the same publisher within a close timeframe. Coleridge-Taylor would have been very familiar with the organ from his early church experience as a boy in addition to studies at the Royal College of Music with Walter Alcock. His writing is consistently idiomatic for the instrument. The few registrational directions in the first edition, assuming they are by Coleridge-Taylor, demonstrate an understanding of the need to balance the organ part with the violin part so that the organ is not too loud. Rather than numbering the manuals I and II, with II being the quieter manual, the score indicates Swell and Choir but there is no requirement for the Great to be used. There are also extended sections where no manual indication is given at all. Whether the registration markings were made by Coleridge-Taylor or an editor at Schott is unclear but the indication for a Choir manual suggests not so much the need for an organ of three manuals but an instrument with a range of foundational colours for writing that is often accompanimental in nature. / Date parution : 2023-06-01/ Répertoire / Violon et Orgue

Three arrangements including Ave Verum Corpus and the Lacrimosa from the Requiem.During the year 1771 when Mozart was 15 years old he and his father Leopold were touring Italy which was at that time the most formidable citadel of the music world. In the following four years the young Mozart was received at the homes and villas of Italy's aristocracy. He met the most famous musicians of the time including Niccolo Piccinni operatic rival to Gluck and Padre Martini from whom he was to benefit from studies in counterpoint. He also met many noted male soprano singers and for one the celebrated Venanzio Rauzzini he wrote in 1773 the motet Exsultate Jubilate from whichcomes the well known Alleluia.At the end of his life only 19 years later in Vienna 1791 Mozart was very ill and working on a number of massive works such as the operas The Magic Flute and Titus also the Requiem. Titus was completed in 18 nerve-shattering days as it had to be performed in Prague in September 1791. At its premiere it was a complete flop. This affected the now overworked almost penniless composer's spirit and he returned to Vienna suffering from mental and physical exhaustion. Rest was denied him. The Magic Flute had to be finished for its premier on September 30th 1791. The task of the Requiem still faced him. In this weakened state Mozart thought that he was in fact writing his own requiem reading evil omens into the commissioning of the work. He thought someone had calculated the precise time of his death and was thus troubled with sombre thoughts. He completed the first two of the twelve parts. The next six parts were in an unfinished state and his manuscript ceased at the Lacrimosa. Süssmayer who was working closely with Mozart at the time was given the task of finishing the Requiem.Ave Verum Corpus is also one of his final works. Programme Note This short one-movement quartet is a kind of modernization of the 14th century French motets a cadeau to this weird and fantastic music whose abstract and almost deprecatory introvert expression appears unaccountably modern and incredibly ancient at the same time. MOTET is a sober cool treatise on rhythm and statics depicted in a Gothic crypt-like atmosphere. The almost completely non-vibrato movement is suggestive of boys’ choir monks’ processions and the piercing sound of musical glasses. An ancient world is reborn and becomes the world of today. Brass Quartet-Org-Vces-Vocal Score Mfb604V-Transcribed by popular brass arranger Robert King this edition of Johann Pachelbel's Nun danket alle Gott provides an exciting performance piece for Choir Organ and a large Brass Ensemble. Pachelbel (1653-1906) is of course best remembered today for his Canon in D. However his vocal music is also significant. Nun danket alle Gott is a motet based on a short passage from Ecclesiastes. An important feature of the work is that the endings of sections are in four-part chorale settings with the sopranos singing long notes values whilst the other voices present shorter note values.King's arrangement of this historical work makes for an exciting performance.

Patrick Hawes’ Factum Est Silentium was composed in 2013 and is dedicated to Andy Berry.In this five minute piece SATB choir and solo Violin combine to create a majestic soundscape. The words speak of the Archangel Michael saving heaven from the serpent with the Violin lines depicting the serpent itself.This is the part for Violin only.

Here it is called 'Te Deum for Cannons” after the Duke's stately home named Cannons where the first performance took place. The unusual scoring for flute, oboe, bassoon, trumpet, two violins and basso continuo plus a choir (one soprano, three tenors and a bass) probably reflects the musicians which were available at Cannons, bearing in mind that three tenors were used also in 'Acis and Galatea”, the masque which was composed at almost the same time. Though in many respects this 'Te Deum” is reminiscent of the 'Utrecht Te Deum”, its smaller forces tend to give it more the character of chamber music.
