Score-Morton Gould's Santa Fe Saga for Concert Band.Born in Richmond Hill New York on 10 December 1913 Morton Gould was recognised early on as a child prodigy with the ability to improviseand compose. At the age of six he had his first composition published. He studied at the Institute of Musical Art (now the Juilliard School) but his most important teachers were Abby Whiteside (Piano) and Vincent Jones(composition).Gould enjoyed an illustrious career. In addition to gaining a Pulitzer Prize for 'Stringmusic' he was Musical America's 1994 Composer-of-the-Year and recieved a Kennedy Center Honor in recognition oflifetime contributions to American culture.A long-time member of the American Society of Composers Authors and Publishers Gould was elected president of ASCAP in 1986 a post he held until 1994. In 1986 he waselected to the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters. He also served on the board of the American Symphony Orchestra League and on the National Endowment for the Arts music panel.

En 1805 il s?installe à Bergame où il devient professeur de violon à l?Instituto Musicale et premier violon de l?orchestre du Teatro Riccardi. Ses talents de pédagogue et de concertiste sont très appréciés. Bien que populaire à l?époque sa musique est en grande partie tombée dans l?oubli ; aujourd?hui son œuvre la plus couramment interprétée est son Concerto pour contrebasse. Toutes les compositions connues de Capuzzi ont été écrites pendant ses années à Venise. C?est ici qu?il se lie d?amitié avec Domenico Dragonetti le contrebassiste virtuose de Beethoven. Il est tout à fait possible que Capuzzi ait écrit son Concerto pour contrebasse à l?intention de Dragonetti. Gerald Oswald a réalisé un bel arrangement des deuxième et troisième mouvements de ce concerto (Andante et Rondo) pour euphonium ou tuba et orchestre d?harmonie. La partie solo est également disponible dans une édition avec accompagnement au piano.

Pavane for a Dead Princess-Maurice Ravel was only 24 when his piano solo 'Pavane Pour une Infante Defunte ' which translated means Pavane for a dead princess became the rage of the drawing rooms and salons of Paris in 1899 but the work already held the unmistakable stamp of his style. Ravel orchestrated the work in 1910. Jerry Brubaker presents this lovely work in a Concert band setting with all of the lush melodies and harmonies of the original work but with simplified ranges and a comfortable key. A marvelous choice for a truly beautiful piece of impressionistic literature!

The Gymnopédies, published in Paris starting in 1888, are three piano compositions written by French composer and pianist Erik Satie. The name referrers to an ancient Greek festival and dance. This piece has a haunting quality to its very familiar melody while its harmonies are atmospheric and ethereal. The setting would easily stand on its own but would also lend itself well to choreography for modern dance or ballet to enhance the performance and involve additional performers on stage at your concert. Brahms Opus 40. Par BRAHMS JOHANNES / HOUBEN KEVIN. Johannes Brahms peut être considéré comme l\'un des meilleurs compositeurs de musique de chambre du XIXe siècle. Il était un géant dans ce domaine et un digne successeur de Beethoven et de Haydn. Le Trio en Mib opus 40 pour piano, violon et cor naturel est un chef-d\'?uvre de sa musique de chambre. En 1865, l\'année de ce trio, la mère de Brahms, Christiane, meurt. On sait qu\'il avait des sentiments profonds pour elle. Le mouvement lent porte l?indication de tempo Adagio Mesto (triste) et peut être considéré comme un chant de lamentation pour sa mère. L\'?uvre a été exécutée pour la première fois le 28 novembre 1865 à Zurich et a été publiée un an plus tard, en novembre 1866. Dans cette version pour orchestre d?harmonie, Kevin Houben reste aussi fidèle que possible à l\'original. Le résultat est une orchestration profonde et sombre du merveilleux Adagio Mesto.
