Tubalosity was selected to be premiered by Kenyon Wilson at Indiana University USA in 2014 as part of the Fifteen Minutes of Fame series. The piece is inspired by the versatility of the Tuba sound - that of the funky bass and the melodic voice. The player should imagine they are playing both parts simultaneously as though the bass line is there all the way through in the style of singer Bobby McFerrin.Performance Notes:Tubalosity has both a melody and a bass line - bring out the melody line in the upper notesfrom bar 5.Notes with a cross-hatch head should be a tongue-click into the mouthpiece.In bars8 12 14 15 and 20 the upper notes should be sung at the same time as playing the lower note. The sung notes should be in whichever octave is comfortable in the player's range.

Composed by Roger Boutry Tubaroque is a melodious piece of baroque music for Tuba Bb Bass Saxhorn or Bass Trombone with Piano accompaniment. Quite difficult it would be perfect for advanced players and would work well in a concert. Starting with a small introduction in three measures the first part of the piece begins on a 'Slow Waltz movement' which consists of a main theme with two variations including one played an octave lower. The second part 'Allegretto' is more lyrical and the last one 'Moderato/Allegro' starts like a march to then go back to a more melodious finale. Roger Boutry is a Frenchmusician and contemporary composer who received eight First Prizes at the Conservatoire including composition conducting and Piano. He also won the Grand Prix de Rome in 1954 and some prizes by the SACEM and by the city of Paris. He also got involved as a professor of Harmony and director of Orchestras.
