The remarkable results of this undertaking are the concertos for harpsichord. Today it is almost certain that practically all of these concertos were transcribed from concertos for melody instruments (mostly violin or oboe). The Concerto in F major BWV 1052 is the sixth of the harpsichord concertos contained in the autograph score that Bach wrote out in or around 1738 (Berlin Staatsbibliothek Mus. ms. Bach P 234). The initials at the end of the piece SDGl ('Soli Deo Gloria') form a pendant to the J.J. ('Jesus Juva') found at theopening of the D-minor Concerto BWV 1052. This indicates that BVW 1057 formed the final piece in this six-work opus the only authentic and self-contained collection of concertos we have from Bach apart from his presentation copy of the Brandenburg Concertos (1721). Like all the other concertos in this series BWV 1057 is an arrangement of an earlier work in this case the Fourth Brandenburg Concerto in G major (BWV 1049).Urtext of the New Bach EditionFull score & parts (BA5229) two-keyboard reduction (BA5229-90) and study score (TP410) format 22.5 x 16.5cm (all 6 concertos) available for sale

Cembalo Orgel - Flute Violine - Bc-Score with 3 parts (Flute/Oboe/Violin; Basso Continuo with figures (Cello/Bass); Basso Continuo realised with figures (Harpsichord/Organ)Musical text with arrangements by two Handel contemporaries as well as the editor’s own arrangement for Harpsichord or Organ. All editorial additions are clearly marked.Equally effective when performed note-for-note on the Organ. As early as 1743 while Handel was still alive Francesco Geminiani produced an arrangement of the Water Music for Keyboard instruments thereby making it possible to perform this popular work in domestic surroundings. Then presumably in 1749 an unknown musician arranged theMusic for the Royal Fireworks for transverse Flute or Violin and Harpsichord. In addition to these two contemporary versions this edition also contains an arrangement by the editor for Harpsichord or Organ based on the first edition. Though both early sources explicitly mention a Harpsichord the arrangements can also be performed effectively note-for-note on the Organ. As the surviving anonymous version merely places a solo part and a figured Bass on a two-stave system our edition is accompanied by performance material with one part each for transverse Flute/Oboe/Violin and Violoncello/Double Bass plus a figured Bass realisation.

D major BWV 1054-In early 1729 Bach became director of the so-called »Scottish Collegium Musician« a music organization of students and local citizens. The remarkable results of this undertaking are the concertos for harpsichord. Today it is almost certain that practically all of these concertos were transcribed from concertos for melody instruments (mostly violin or oboe). The D-major Concerto BWV 1054 originated as a transcription of Bach’s Violin Concerto in E major BWV 1042. The principal source for our edition is the autograph score of Bach’s harpsichord concertos preserved in the Berlin Staatsbibliothek (Mus. ms. Bach P 234) where BWV 1054 forms the third item. Toaccommodate the upper limit of the harpsichord keyboard Bach decided to transpose the piece down a whole tone which allowed him to retain the frequently occurring peak pitch e3 without altering the melodic line. The D-major Concerto owes its popularity to the clear and straightforward formal design of its movements no less than its overall mood of relaxed merriment. This mood also finds expression in Bach’s choice of the rondo form for the final movement a form otherwise seldom encountered in his concertos.Urtext of the New Bach EditionFull score & parts (BA5226) two-keyboard reduction (BA5226-90) and study score (TP410) format 22.5 x 16.5cm (all 6 concertos) available for sale

The remarkable results of this undertaking are the concertos for harpsichord. Today it is almost certain that practically all of these concertos were transcribed from concertos for melody instruments (mostly violin or oboe). The Concerto for Harpsichord and Strings in G minor BWV 1058 is the last complete work in the original autograph score of harpsichord concertos that Bach wrote out in or around 1738 (Berlin Staatsbibliothek Mus. Ms. Bach 234). However it only came to occupy this position later when the manuscript wasbound. It stands at the very outset of the genesis of this group of works and marks the earliest stage in Bach’s efforts to transform concertos for melody instrument and strings into harpsichord concertos. In this case the original model the Concerto for Violin and Strings in A minor (BWV 1041) has survived thereby allowing us to examine Bach’s technique of arrangement in detail.- Urtext of the New Bach Edition- Full score & parts (BA5230) two-keyboard reduction (BA5230-90) and study score (TP410) format 22.5 x 16.5cm (all 6 concertos) available for sale

Bach had alreadyreworked the original concerto in two church cantatas in the autumn of 1726 (BWV 49 and BWV 169) at which time he assigned the solo part to the organ. The court organist Antonio de Cabezón (ca. 1510-1566) who was appointed to Queen Isabella’s court chapel in Toledo at the young age of 16 was rightly regarded by his contemporaries as the leading Spanish organist and keyboard player of the 16th century. His hymns and versets are based on short decorated harmonisations of the psalm tones. In the tientos the transformation from vocal motet style to a style of writing suitable for keyboard instruments is perfectly executed. This Urtext edition contains a selection of Cabezon's best known works and consists of four volumes. It has been prepared by two editors working at Portuguese andSpanish universities who are both leading scholars of the works of Cabezón and reflects the latest research findings.

Second Livre Für Cembalo-Edited by Denis HerlinWith notes on performance practiceOnce again the French musicologist Denis Herlin who mastered the harpsichord under the tutelage of such keyboard legends as Kenneth Gilbert and Huguette Dreyfus has presented an exemplary edition of a classic from the harpsichord repertoire.?Bärenreiter presents Book II of Couperin?s ?Pièces de clavecin? first published in 1717. In addition the eight preludes and one allemande from his treatise ?L?Art de toucher le clavecin? are included in the appendix. For the first time Denis Herlin has evaluated the many later impressions of the original print most of which he unearthed himself ininternational libraries. By preserving the essential features of the original print while largely dispensing with disruptive page-turns within the pieces the volume brings modern performers close to the special sound of this music. Rounding off this pioneering new edition are an extensive Foreword notes on historical performance practice a comprehensive glossary facsimile pages and a detailed Critical Commentary.Pioneering edition with the first-time evaluation of an extensive body of sourcesIncludes Couperin?s original expression markswith 8 Préludes and 1 Allemande from 'L'Art de toucher le clavecin' (1716 1717)
