The five-part motets Nos. 1-12-The Five-Part Motets Nos. 1-12 (SWV 369-380)Reflects the latest in musicological research based on the New Schutz Edition.Includes a detailed foreword (Eng/Ger) on performance practice by a Schutz expertInstrumental parts (Strings Winds) available in transpositions. In 1648 Heinrich Schutz published a collection of 29 motets with five to seven parts titled ?Geistliche Chor-Music? (Sacred Choir Music). Here the term ?Chor? (Choir) refers not only to a (large) Vocal ensemble but more generally to a group of musicians vocal or instrumental. As explained by Schutz in the foreword he published withthe collection all parts of the motets can be performed vocally and/or instrumentally. This practice common in Schutz?s time has been incorporated into Bärenreiter?s new publication. The edition includes the twelve five-part motets at original pitch with Basso Continuo. In addition instrumental parts for String and Wind instruments can be purchased. These parts which include the text serve to support and complement the choral sound ?colla parte?. To enable varying tone-colour possibilities instrumental parts are available in different transpositions.Of great significance is the detailed foreword on performance practice by Manfred Cordes.Manfred Cordes is a specialist for the music of the 16th and early 17th centuries. He works as professor for music theory counterpoint and ensemble and is also rector of the ?Hochschule für Künste Bremen?. He performs internationally as the director of the ensemble ?Weser-Renaissance Bremen?.

Oratorio in three acts-Composed in 1748 Handel???s oratorio on the wise and righteous King Solomon is one of the most lavish works he created in this genre. He attached special importance to the choir: rarely does Handel???s music have such extended choral numbers ranging from homophonic settings to choruses of jubilation in eight contrapuntal parts.- Clear straightforward piano reduction in the vocal score- Urtext of the Halle Handel Edition- Full score (BA10709-01) and vocal score (BA10709-90) available for sale- Performance material available for hire

Sacred Cantata-In the words of Karl Wilhelm Ramler this cantata is one of the most beautiful Christmas compositions of the 18th century. Written for a performance in 1759 it combines festive trumpet sounds with moving chorale settings.Telemann has used his musical resources with moderation and restraint allowing the chorus to appear at the central passages in both sections and painting an unobtrusive pastoral background for the Christmas setting. A worthy alternative in any Christmas concert. Our edition contains an English translation of the German text in an appendix and follows the Urtext of the Telemann Edition (vol. 30) thereby providing a reliabletext reflecting the latest findings of scholarship.Urtext of the Telemann EditionFull score and performance material (BA5852) and vocal score (BA5852-90) available for sale.

(+)
Oratorio in three acts-Handel composed Samson directly after completing the 'Messiah'. After its premiere in 1743 in the Covent Garden Theatre in London the work rapidly became one of the composer?s most successful oratorios alongside 'Esther' and 'Judas Maccabaeus'. This probably had as much to do with the popular Old Testament story of the libretto as with Handel?s masterly shaping of the arias and choruses. By including some movements in the appendix this edition makes it possible for the first time to perform the work in its original 1741 version. The edition is based on the complete edition volume of the 'Halle Handel Edition' (BA 4099) offering thecomplete music text of the oratorio for the first time. - Urtext of the Halle Handel Edition - Full score (BA4099)

(+)
Les Troyens - The Trojans: Opera in 5 Acts Berlioz composed Les Troyens towards the end of his life drawing on Virgil?s epic poem The Aeneid which he had admired since his childhood. In his Memoirs he recounts how his father a country doctor read Virgil to him and how the story of Dido?s tragic fate reduced him to tears which he tried hard to conceal. The score was finished in April 1858 but he was unable to persuade the Paris Opera to mount it (his earlier opera Benvenuto Cellini had been a failure there in 1838) and eventually he agreed to allow the last three acts to be performed under the title Les Troyens à Carthage. This took placeat the Théâtre-lyrique an enterprising but ill-equipped theatre in November 1863 and although it was much admired there were no more performances before Berlioz?s death in 1869. In the history of French music Les Troyens stand out as a grand opera that avoided the shallow glamour of Meyerbeer and Halévy but therefore paid the price of long neglect. In our own time the opera has finally come to be seen as one of the greatest operas of the 19th century. Volume 1-Works for Male Choir / Works for Equal Voices Volume 1Niels W. Gade. Werks Volume IV/10Niels Wilhelm Gade (1817?1890) WorksEdited by the Foundation for the Publication of the Works of Niels W. Gade CopenhagenNiels W. Gade is one of the leading Danish composers of the nineteenth century. However only about half of his prolific ?uvre has appeared in print. Given this fact and the growing current interest in Gade there is an urgent need for a scholarly-critical Urtext edition of his music to meet the demands of both scholars and performers. This edition will contain all of Gade's completed compositions and separate movements as wellas the arrangements he made of his own works and those of other composers. In general the main text presents the ?definitive? version based on Gade's personal copy of the printed work. However all the remaining sources have also been consulted for purposes of comparison. Every editorial decision is mentioned and justified in the critical report (English).

(+)
Jephtha is Handel’s last oratorio. Handel had to break off from composing several times because of his increasing blindness in 1751. The first performance at the Covent Garden Theatre in February 1752 was the last performance he conducted before he went completely blind. In Jephtha Handel succeeded in achieving the perfect fusion between a biblical plot and the spirit of classical tragedy. With great intensity and dramatic expression he highlighted in particular the fates of Jephtha and Iphis thereby portraying convincing and complex characters. The chorus How Dark O Lord are Thy Decrees at the end of parttwo is of crucial importance in the work and is regarded as the dramatic high point of the oratorio. The vocal score is based on volume I/30 of the Halle Handel Edition (BA 4014) which contains the complete critical version of the music of the oratorio for the first time. It contains a detailed foreword in German and English and a clear straightforward Piano reduction.

(+)
Ballade by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe-During the summer of 1799 Goethe wrote his ballad ?Die erste Walpurgisnacht ? and asked his friend Carl Friedrich Zelter to set the work to music. Zelter however felt unable to do this and so Goethe?s wish was only realised thirty years later by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. The ?heavenly words? of the pagan ballads had impressed the composer so much after a visit to Weimar that he was inspired to set them to music. In 1832 the composition took shape and was performed a year later in the Sing- Akademie in Berlin.Mendelssohn was however unhappy with the first version of the work and held it back until he decided on a radical revision ofthe work ten years after its premiere. Die ?erste Walpurgisnacht? was first performed in 1843 in Leipzig in the presence of Robert Schumann and Hector Berlioz in the form in which the work is still performed today. The publication of this edition by John Michael Cooper Associate Professor of Music History at the University of North Texas (Denton) makes the work available in an Urtext edition for the first time in time for the 200th anniversary of the composer?s birth. The edition reflects the latest state of research and the volume includes a Critical Commentary.- One of Mendelssohn?s most important secular works in an edition reflecting the latest research findings.- Bärenreiter Urtext for the Mendelssohn anniversary year 2009.- Critical Commentary (Eng)- Full score (BA9072) and vocal score (BA9072-90) for sale; performance material (BA9072-72) available for hire.

Autograph: Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Preußischer Kulturbesitz-?I have never experienced such silence or seen an audience moved in this way.?(Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy)Up to the present day there has scarcely been a work in the history of music which has fascinated listeners and performers more than Bach?s ?St Matthew Passion?. Originally composed for Vespers on Good Friday and even longer in duration than the ?St John Passion? it reconstructs the story of Christ?s Passion with immense musical emotional and spiritual intensity. And so this monumental and complex composition has come to rank amongst the high points of Western culture. For good reason the ?rediscovery? of Johann Sebastian Bach?s music began in 1829 with theperformance of this work by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and the Berlin Singakademie. The autograph manuscript is regarded as one of Bach?s most beautiful the fair copy demonstrates the importance he attached to the careful preservation of the work for posterity. A further special feature is the coloured ink with which he wrote the biblical text and the music of the chorale ?O Lamm Gottes unschuldig?.This facsimile edition reproduces the autograph score of the ?St Matthew Passion? for the first time in high-quality colour printing. The Bach specialist Christoph Wolff introduces the background to the work?s composition and the characteristics of the manuscript.Martina Rebmann (Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin) provides further details regarding the history of the autograph manuscript; with a preface by Barbara Schneider-Kempf general director of the Staatsbibliothek.BÄRENREITER FACSIMILEThe seal is used exclusively for facsimile editions published by Bärenreiter which meet the highest demands in both scholarly and technical terms. The distinguishing features include:- a facsimile in high-quality colour printing- scholarly commentary- attractive cover designFacsimile of the authograph score in the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Preussischer Kulturbesitz. With a commentary by Christoph Wolff Martina Rebmann and Barbara Schneider-Kempf.Documenta musicologica II 47166 pages of facsimile and approx. 30 pages commentary (Eng/Ger)Format: 37.5 x 24cm; Half-leather binding hardbackISBN 978-3-7618-2294-4

The ?Te Deum? (H 146) is unquestionably the best known composition of Marc-Antoine Charpentier (1643?1704) especially since its ? Prélude en rondeau ? was made the Eurovision signature tune. Although Charpentier set the ?Te Deum? altogether four times this is his only setting employing a ?military band? i.e. trumpets and kettledrums. This brilliant and magnificent piece was frequently played at victory celebrations and other occasions of public jubilation during the 17th century. Even today it is still ideal for festive church services and concerts. The present editionstands at the forefront of scholarship and provides a complete newly edited Urtext of Charpentier?s masterpiece.- Full score performance material (BA7593) and vocal score (BA7593-90) available for sale
