Cantilena was commissioned by the London Chamber Music Society to celebrate their move to King's Place in October 2008. First performed by Nicholas Daniel and members of the Chilingirian Quartet at King’s Place London on 5th October 2008. The work is a short lyrical piece where an outsider [the oboe] joins the group [a string trio] and adds to their dialogue. At first the newcomer is treated with a mixture of suspicion and agitation but eventually is made welcome. The oboe is invited to share the musical theme that has been established which he then proceeds to embellish and adorn. He leads the harmonic changes that result in the theme being heard in manydifferent keys. He then introduces a new theme. The excitement grows and leads to a climax. A peaceful coda re-establishes the original theme and all ends harmoniously among the integrated quartet.

Ursula Mamlok was born in Berlin in 1923, but was forced to emigrate via Ecuador to New York in 1939 because of her Jewish descent. In 2006 she returned to the city where she was born.Fünf Phantasiestücke, composed in 2012/13 for a small mixed ensemble consisting of oboe, violin, viola and violoncello, draws its appeal from the broad spectrum of emotions, feelings and states described musically in a minimum of time: Unruhig [Anxious] - Schwebend [Floating] - Munter [Lively] - Wie im Traum [Like a Dream] - Spielerisch [Playful] are the headings of the individual sections. Par BACH JOHANN SEBASTIAN. Bach would almost certainly have approved of this string quartet arrangement of his famous concerto for violin and oboe (BWV 1060) by John Cooley as he was well known for making arrangements of his own works, according to instrumental resources at his disposal. Bach himself made an arrangement of this piece for two solo harpsichords and string orchestra. It is quite ?notey? but straightforward and accessible technically to reasonably good players as there are no tricky rhythms or high notes. As well as this Bach concerto arrangement, SJ Music has also published John Cooley?s arrangements of Mozart?s piano duets K497 and K521 for piano trio and piano quartet respectively, Bach?s organ Passacaglia and Fugue for string quartet, and one of Purcell?s trio sonatas for string trio. / Date parution : 2022-03-16/ Répertoire / Quatuor à Cordes

3. Streichquartett. Par FELDMANN WALTER. Der « noyé » [der Ertränkte] ist eine Gruppe von Kompositionen, die alle von einem einzigen Stück abgeleitet sind, von meinem ersten Streichquartett. Das Original, « . . . à tournoyer » [1990], und seine drei heute noch gültigen Folgekompositionen sollen aber nicht zyklisch aufgeführt werden : sexe-tuor [für Oboe oder Piccolo und einen Nachhall], le sexe du noyé [für Oboe und Elektronik] und le second tour du noyé. Am Schluss der Arbeit, die sich ursprünglich von 1994 bis 1997 erstreckte, steht das im Jahr 2004 völlig neu überarbeitete dritte Streichquartett, das den Kreis zur Ausgangsformation wieder schliesst. Der « noyé » stellt die Entwicklung eines eigenen, von denTonhöhen abgeleiteten rhythmischen Systems dar, das später die Komposition meines Hauptwerks mitbedingen sollte : « monstrueuse vécut dans le cadre » la mémoire für Solo-Viola und grosses Ensemble in 6 Gruppen, nach einem Text von Anne-Marie Albiach. Die vier Instrumente sind ungewöhnlich angeordnet: An der Stelle des Primgeigers sitzt hier - wie bei den vorhergehenden Streichquartetten - der Bratschist, so dass die zwei tieferen Instrumente die zwei höheren umranden. Jedes Instrument ist in einem der sieben Teile solistisch behandelt, die Bratsche im ersten, die 1. Violine im dritten, die 2. Violine im fünften und das Cello im letzten Teil, so dass die Hauptstimmen in Drehbewegung von links nach rechts wandern [tournoyer : im Kreise drehen]. Die Einsätze, Dynamik und Spieltechniken der einzelnen Instrumente entsprechen genauestens denjenigen des 1. Quartetts, nur dass hier das ursprünglich extrem einfache Material sich zu grosser rhythmischer und [achtel-] tonlicher Komplexität weiterentwickelt hat./ Répertoire / 2 Violons, Alto et Violoncelle
