Along with the movement In the King's Hall, The Homage March from Act III of Sigurd Jorsalfar remains one of the most popular Scandinavian pieces of classical music. This arrangement has, once again, has been skilfully crafted by Wil van der Beek for a younger Concert Band and will be a popular addition to any concert.

Third version, first performed around 1747 in Leipzig. First version available under 35.304/00. The St. Mark Passion, which probably originated in the first decade of the 18th century, by a composer known until now only as Kaiser, is only preserved in various copies. It occupies a prominent place in Bach's music library as the only music for Passion by another composer which he performed several times, usually in different forms. For the young Bach in Weimar this St. Mark Passion was a didactic piece for learning the art of the modern narrative recitative; as the Leipzig Thomaskantor he also performed it (1726). The present edition reconstructs the third version, first performed in Leipzig (1747), in which Bach inserted seven arias from Handel's famous Brockes-Passion. Only in this pasticcio did a direct encounter occur between him and his famous compatriot in London, a real encounter which Bach longed for, but which never came about. Score and part available separately - see item CA.3550200.

Sibelius wrote the five-minute Romance in 1903 for string orchestra, originally titling it Andante. However he was persuaded to change the name about five years later by a critic's review. In 1903, Sibelius was still composing in a Romantic style, not the austere sounds heard later-on after he composed the 4th Symphony. Romance is made up of three sections; a slow Andante, a faster middle section and a slow third section. Mr. Sauer has distilled the music down to a lovely solo for Tuba or Bass Trombone and Piano. This crowd-pleaser will work well for advanced performers.

Two timeless Christmas favorites by J.S.Bach are gloriously arranged for the Concert Band and ready for your interpretation. BREAK FORTH, O BEAUTEOUS, HEAVENLY LIGHT and JESU, JOY OF MAN'S DESIRING comprise the two contrasting movements (a Chorale and a Ballad). You know how valuable chorale style playing can be for the band’s tone quality, breath support, intonation, and phrasing. With thorough cueing throughout the arrangement, TWO BACH CHRISTMAS CLASSICS will work beautifully even if your group has instrumentation problems. Christmas music does not ordinarily leap to mind as a choice for spring festival use, but you may wish to consider it in this case. Great music isgreat music any time of the year! Magnificent!
