This chamber work was used as an audition piece for the Paris Conservatory and this edition contains the solo scores for B flat and for C Trumpet. Henri Büsser (1872-1913) was a French classical composer and organist. He was a professor at the Paris Conservatoire and a member of the Académie Française. He wrote a ballet numerous operas and chamber music.

Finished in 1948 the Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra was composed by the French composer conductor and the 1927 winner of the Grand Prix de Rome Henri Tomasi (1901-1971) and lasts approximately 14 minutes. Dedicated to the Trumpeter Ludovic Vaillant soloist at the National Orchestra the Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra was premiered in Paris in 1949. The first part which lasts 7 minutes Allegro and Cadenza begins with a trumpet cadenza and a quiet snare drum background. The Nocturne follows as the second part of this Concerto and the Finale the shortest part of the concerto ends up with acheerful cartoon-music theme. It is divided in three main movements the third one being a repetition of the main theme (first movement). Henri Tomasi also composed a variety of concerti for Alto Saxophone and for Trombone as well as some ballades.

André Jolivet (1905-1974) established his love for composition from a young age. This remained throughout his life and he held the post of Professor of Composition from 1966-1970 at Paris Conservatoire. Concerto No. 2 for Trumpet was composed in 1955 and remains highly regarded. Jolivet himself a cellist wished to explore composition for all instruments and therefore has a considerable number of works in all fields. The composer's style is also known for its spirituality and the desire to associate the everyday with the magical and the human with the universal. Jolivet draws on acoustics andatonality as heard in Concerto No. 2 for Trumpet. The piece requires high virtuosic skills due to its expansive use of extended techniques. For all advanced trumpeters Jolivet provides an exciting different piece for the instrument's repertoire.

Composed by Henri Tomasi Tryptique can be played by a Bb or a C Trumpet with a Piano accompaniment. This piece is divided into three parts of approximately 2 pages each: 1. Scherzo 2. Largo and 3. Saltarelle. The Saltarelle part includes the use of the sourdine and has numerous accidental alterations. To this day Eugène Bozza (1905-1991) remains one of the most prolific composers for wind instruments despite being a violinist himself. His Caprice No. 2 for Trumpet with Piano accompaniment is no exception to the composer's success. During his studies at the Paris Conservatoire Bozza won prizes for Violin conducting and composition as well as the Grand Prix de Rome. He then conducted the orchestra of the Opéra-Comique and became Head of the Conservatoire in Valenciennes whilst remaining a prominent composer. Composed in 1978 Bozza's Caprice No. 2 addresses advanced aspects of theTrumpet including complex rhythms exploited tonalilty and articulation. As music educationalist Paul Griffiths has written of Bozza's compositions 'his works reveal melodic fluency elegance of structure and a consistenly sensitive concern of instrumental capabilities.'

Joseph Edouard Barat (1882-1963) is best known for his concertos and compositions for solo wind and orchestra. His sympathy for wind music is thought to have been influenced by his work as a bandmaster with the French Army from which his compositional expertise has derived.    His Andante et Scherzo for Trumpet and Piano begins in a slow common time avoiding clear tonality until it cadences in C major. The second movement is also in C major yet provides contrast by its compound meter and quick pace. Barat's talent is proven when he cleverly combines the two movementsduring the coda.    These musical elements along with many other features create a highly enjoyable performance and is a necessity for any trumpeter's repertoire.

Camille Saint-Saëns (1835-1921) is best known for his Carnival of the Animals and Organ Symphony. Yet his Fantasy in E flat major arranged for Cornet or Trumpet and Piano remains popular in the advanced repertoire for the instruments. Saint-Saëns entered the Paris Conservatoire at the mere age of thirteen where he studied Organ and composition. He then went on to have a successful career as an organist and composer writing his Fantasy in E flat major in 1857. The piece was originally composed for the Organ but Henri Busser (1872-1973) recognised the work's significance and arranged it for Cornet orTrumpet with Piano accompaniment. To this day Fantasy in E flat major remains prominent in the advanced brass player's repertoire.
