The fourth volume of a series of books for percussionists by Emmanuel Séjourné 5 pieces for Marimba Vol.4 is a set of 5 works for 4 to 4.5 Marimbas. Written for advanced level players and inspired from African rhythms the three first compositions can be played each after the other or separately. The five pieces are: Balafon Ambira Akadinda Generalife Pretexte The names of these 5 pieces for Marimba Vol.4 were given after different African instruments of wooden blades that can be found in various places. While Pretexte is quite jazzy with itsstrong beat Generalife is more dynamic and should be played with more energy and character. Emmanuel Séjourné (born in 1961) is a French percussionist and composer who was strongly influenced by Western music and popular music. He wrote a series of books for percussionists including 'Keyboard and Percussions Vol. 1'.

Written in 1994 by minimalist composer Steve Reich, Nagoya Marimbas, for two Marimbas, reflects the style of some of the composer?s earlier compositions from the 1960s and ?70s, in as far as there are repeating patternsplayed on both marimbas, one or more beats out of phase, creating a series of two part unison canons. However, these patterns are more melodically developed, change frequently and each is usually repeated no more than three times,which is typical of Reich?s more recent works.This highly exciting piece will provide an enjoyable challenge to accomplished and virtuosic Marimba players. / Percussion / Boosey

Many of these works were written for violin and contain bowings and fingerings that assist in the stylistic interpretation for violin but do not apply to marimba.
