Blow Ye The Trumpet was originally composed as a chorus for as part of Kirke Mechem's Opera John Brown based on the life of the abolitionist campaigner of the same name. It was later popularised inSongs of the Slave a suite of works from the same opera. The text is adapted from a traditional hymn said to be Brown’s favourite with a new tune composed in the early American folk style. KirkeMechem (b. 1925) is an American composer who has found worldwide popularity with his collection of over 250 compositions in almost every form. Blow Ye The Trumpet has been arranged here for SSAA chorus andPiano with optional orchestral accompaniment.

A setting of a nativity poem from 'Her Maker?s Maker' by Michael Symmons Roberts 'New-made for a king' was commissioned by Andreas Klatt for Farnham Youth Choir. Scored mainly in four parts the choral texture is homophonic the harmony rich yet approachable by young performers with a decorative piano accompaniment. In the mould of a lullaby the piece?s over-riding calm is troubled towards the close by indistinct pp lontano interjections from the piano in response to the poem?s portentous closing words.

John Joubert's I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes for SSAA choir with Piano accompaniment. Commissioned by Rustenburg High School for Girls Cape Town on the occasion of their 75th Anniversary 1969.

SSAA Version - Piano Part-The work is based on the Latin Christmas hymn Puer natus in Bethlehem from the 13th century and along the way the German fishing melody Ein Kind geborn zu Bethlehem from the 16th century onwards. The Dream Of Gerontius was composed in 1900 for the Birmingham Music Festival. It was a large-scale work for chorus soloists and orchestra setting a poem by Cardinal John Henry Newman. The section of the text beginning Praise To The Holiest had already been set and popularised to an Anglican hymn tune but Elgar shunned this version preferring to write his own melody. This has been arranged here for female chorus with Piano accompaniment. Edward Elgar (1857-1934) is one of England’s best-known and most-loved composers. He was self-taught as composer coming from outside the musical and social establishment whichallowed his music to be fresh and unencumbered.
