| César Franck: Sonata:
Flute: Instrumental Work Flute and Piano - Intermediate Barenreiter
Arranged for Piano and Flute-Cesar Franck’s Sonata for Piano and Violin i...(+)
Arranged for Piano and Flute-Cesar Franck’s Sonata for Piano and Violin is one of the most treasured works in the Violin repertoire a masterpiece of cyclic form with a gracefulness and expressive force almost paradigmatic for the age of musical Romanticism. This work was composed in 1886 and was dedicated to the Belgian violinist and composer Eugène Ysaÿe.After Franck’s death in 1890 the original publisher of the Sonata the Parisian house Julien Hamelle announced an arrangement of the work for Flute in 1910. However it has not been possible to locate any copy of this publication. That the Flute version of Franck’s Sonata has found a permanent place in the chamber musicrepertoire is primarily the achievement of Jean-Pierre Rampal who frequently performed his own arrangement of the work. There were no idiomatic Violin techniques to overcome and the cantabile solo part with its broadly arched melodies seems perfectly natural on a wind instrument. The present Flute arrangement largely adopts the original Violin part unchanged merely transposing those passages that go beneath the Flute’s range. In such cases the change of register begins early enough to avoid disruptions to the melodic line and the musical context. The balance between the solo instrument and the (unaltered) Piano accompaniment remains intact. The edition is rounded off by an informative text on the genesis and reception history of the sonata (Ger/Fr/Eng).

| Concerto for flute and
orchestra (1985) Flute and Piano [Sheet music] Fennica Gehrman
Huilukonsertto. Par ENGLUND EINAR. Einar Englund?s (1916-1999) Flute Concerto (1...(+)
Huilukonsertto. Par ENGLUND EINAR. Einar Englund?s (1916-1999) Flute Concerto (1985) is beyond dispute one of his greatest works. Its finest attributes are its rich melodic invention, colourful instrumentation and immediate message. Add to these its rewarding solo part, and the result is truly one of his best concertos ? and works. He himself did not hesitate to regard it as such. It was premiered in Helsinki on September 16, 1985, having been completed at Ljugarn on the Swedish island of Gotland at the end of June. The Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra was conducted by Leif Segerstam, and the soloist was the concerto?s dedicatee, Mikael Helasvuo. The Flute Concerto opens with a Ritornello in which the flute's playful, dance-like passages make sharp contrast with the orchestra's heroic stance. In the mellow Canzona which follows, the flute plays rhapsodically over repetitive orchestral figures. The work's 'action-packed' finale hints at parody in its military march-like opening, but also gives rein to the lyricism already familiar from the second movement. This product includes the solo flute part and the piano reduction. The orchestral study score (composer?s manuscript) is available for sale (product number 9790550117471). The performance material is available for hire from the publisher. Duration: c. 23? Instrumentation of the orchestra: 3(III=picc)222?4330?14?harpsichord( celesta)?hp?str / Date parution : 2022-05-31/ Répertoire / Flûte Traversière et Piano

Suite op. 34 for Flute and Piano-The name Widor is so closely associated with music for the Organ that his many compositions for other instruments can easily be overlooked. The Suite for Flute and Piano presumably composed in1877 stands out amongst chamber music works on account of the wealth of expressive and tonal nuances. The late Romantic work is specially tailored to the possibilities of the Flute; and it is no accident that it wasdedicated to the most important French flautist and flute teacher of the time Paul Taffanel who gave its first performance in 1884. From the very beginning the four-movement Suite has been very popular and now belongs to thecore repertoire for Flute and Piano.

Vol.1: Flute:
Instrumental Album Flute and Piano [Sheet music] Spartan Press
With Plenty To Chew On-Seven concert pieces including 'Carmina Banana' and other...(+)
With Plenty To Chew On-Seven concert pieces including 'Carmina Banana' and other favourites! When I began putting together a few piano pieces back in 2007 I didn't imagine they would quickly spawn a thriving eleven-volume series entitled Eye-Tunes taking players from 'easy' to grade 8 level. Nor did I imagine these might trigger a further five volumes of arrangements for flute and piano two called Creature Comforts (which predictably enough are comprised of animal-inspired pieces) or indeed the three volumes in this current series Flute Pastilles. While it goes without saying that not all pieces conceived for piano will work equally well for the combination of flute andpiano I'm a great believer that a good tune is frequently one which will transcribe easily. I like to think of these cherry-picked arrangements concise though they are as being 'proper' pieces in that they can earn their keep beyond the confines of the practice room or flute lesson. From Book 1 you will find a sprinkling of more thoughtful pieces such as Wind over Goonhilly Forget-Me-Not and Follow the North Star to offset the more jaunty pieces. These in particular call for a little extra attention to tone colour dynamics and phrase-shaping with some awareness of what the piano part is doing too. Think hard about choosing your tempo for each piece as this is a major contributor to musical character and in the faster moving music aim to articulate the rhythms as crisply as you can so that the music can really spring off the page and come to life for your audience.I must acknowledge as before the inestimable contribution to the success of these pieces made by Gillian Poznansky whose suggestions over the appearance of the scores has made such a difference to how the music is likely to be played. She also came up with a fair number of the titles to these pieces and has done them further service by performing them with me to great aplomb on innumerable occasions in far-flung corners of the globe.

PAUL WETZGER (1870-1937) was a German flutist composer born in Dahme near Lübeck. At a young age he took violin lessons from the local music director later switching to flute. By 15 years of age Wetzger had played his first concert in the main church of Dahmen and was second flutist of the municipal orchestra. He later became solo flutist with the municipal orchestra of Essen and taught at the Essen conservatory. He wrote numerous pieces for flute and several chamber music works also editing works by the French composer/flutist Jules Demersseman. Wetzger's Am Waldesbach (By the Forest Brook) ideally for flute and orchestra or piano was a staple of celebrated flutistMarcel Moyse recorded by him in 1935 on the French Columbia label. Since then it has become a favorite in the flute teaching repertory perhaps most notably included Toshio Takahashi's famous Suzuki Flute Method. This Southern Music edition faithfully captures this classic piece as performed by living legend of the flute Sir James Galway.
