Tout cela est vif, alerte, spirituel, habile, parfois p茅tillant - cela chante dans toutes les m茅moires, et il n'est nul besoin de conna卯tre le rudiment du solf猫ge pour s'en d茅lecter. La musique, presque uniquement m茅lodique, encore qu'elle soit soutenue par un orchestre 脿 la fois l茅ger, transparent et qui, jamais, n'accapare indiscr猫tement l'attention, suit l'action avec souplesse, avec esprit, avec bonne humeur.' * C'est dans les Airs s茅rieux et 脿 boire, la Com茅die Italienne et dans les th茅芒tres de foires que l'Op茅ra-Comique confirme sa naissance, se d茅veloppe et finit par s'imposer notamment gr芒ce, 脿 la fin du XVIIe si猫cle, aux foires St-Laurent et St-Germain (qui se d茅roulent du 3 f茅vrier au dimanche de la Passion). A la fin de l'ann茅e 1714, l'Op茅ra autorise le nom d茅finitif de l'Op茅ra-Comique compos茅 alors du Vaudeville (脿 l'origine Vau de Vire) m锚l茅 d'ariettes. C'est donc l'alternance du parl茅 et du chant茅 qui fait la sp茅cificit茅 de l'Op茅ra-Comique contrairement 脿 l'Op茅ra qui est chant茅 de bout en bout. Il faut donc aux interpr猫tes un solide travail d'acteur alli茅 脿 des qualit茅s vocales de plus en plus exigeantes. Le XIXe si猫cle produira un nombre consid茅rable de partitions jou茅es des centaines de fois parmi lesquelles se distinguent notamment : La Dame Blanche (1825) de Boieldieu, Les Dragons de Villars (1856) de Maillard, Le Pr茅 aux Clercs (1832) d'H茅rold, Les Noces de Jeannette (1853) de Mass茅, Lalla Roukh (1862) de David ou Le Postillon de Longjumeau (1836) d'Adam. Dans notre s茅rie de recueils, nous ne manquerons 茅videmment pas de proposer des oeuvres ant茅rieures et post茅rieures 脿 ces dates, oeuvres particuli猫rement choisies pour leurs diff茅rences (au niveau des tessitures, de l'agilit茅, du legato, etc.). Il nous est apparu 茅vident, lorsque c'茅tait le cas, de laisser les textes parl茅s avant, pendant et apr猫s les airs, ce qui caract茅rise l'essence m锚me de l'Op茅ra-Comique. Judith Weir's Good Morning Midnight was commissioned by Wigmore Hall and was first performed on 6th June 2015 at the Wigmore Hall in London. The work is arranged for Mezzo-Soprano and Chamber Ensemble and lasts around 20 minutes. This is the vocal score with a Piano reduction. Good Morning Midnight聽takes its name from a poem by Emily Dickinson whose poetry bookends this work asetting of five different verses in total. The words all centre around the theme of night solitude quiet and the passage of time the beauty of which is matched by Weir's fantastic music. Taking the words as herinspiration Weir聽creates a satisfying work that's full of emotion and a sheer joy to listen to. At its world premiere it was performed by Sarah Connolly (Mezzo-Soprano) and the AuroraOrchestra conducted by Nicolas Collon.
