La nouvelle collection Primo ('Urtext Primo-Reihe') de la Wiener Urtext Edition ('édition viennoise - texte original') a pour objectif de remédier au manque qui existe entre la fin de l'étude d'une méthode de piano et le passage à la suite du processus sous forme de cours. Au sortir d'un niveau défini dans ses grandes lignes par le menuet en sol de Bach (BWV Anh. 116), le menuet en fa de Mozart (KV 5) ou le Cavalier sauvage de Schumann, chaque cahier du Urtext Primo-Reihe se compose d'oeuvres choisies parmi celles de trois compositeurs différents, le but étant d'offrir à chaque élève de piano (ou à chaque adulte reprenant le piano) un éventail de morceaux du répertoire à l'aide desquels on sera en mesure de continuer à développer ses capacités techniques. Towards the end of the 18th century Clementi increasingly advocated the piano as the successor to the harpsichord. He composed expressly for the new instrument and in 1801 published a piano school. His interest in teaching isalso shown by the ?Six progressive Sonatinas? op. 36 - six sonatinas in ascending order of diffi culty which are still extremely popular with today's piano teachers. Our Urtext edition follows the long established practice ofusing the musical text of the first edition from 1797. Clementi?s original fingering which is surprisingly modern has been included throughout the work.

Piano Sonata in G major op. 37 no. 2-Clementi not only dedicated himself to the piano as a virtuoso and composer but also as a teacher music publisher and instrument maker – so it is no wonder that he was referred to as the “Father of the PianoForte” at the time. Alongside basic educational works he also wrote a great many instructive sonatas and sonatinas that form the basis of piano tuition even today. The Sonata in G major – from his opus 37 that waspublished in 1798 – is a must for all budding pianists.
