Cinq courtes études pour caisse claire, en duo virtuel avec les sons fixés, provenant tous de ce même instrument. Sans être exhaustives, ces études proposent au jeune musicien un éventail conséquent de techniques aux baguettes et aux doigts: position des impacts, ras, flas, rim-shots, moulins, volants, roulements divers, mise en place rythmique, accélérés et ralentis... Dans la première, l'élève s'attachera à faire vivre le tempo construit par les sons fixés qui exploitent diverses résonances de la caisse elle même, en promenant sur elles comme une loupe sonore.La seconde est consacrée aux frappes utilisant les doigts. Elle joue d'un espace entre le grain temporel créé par une pulsation rapide, et de nombreux grains de sons, brassés jusqu'à l'aléatoire, comme par un jeu digital à l'intérieur de la peau même de la caisse.La troisième, est techniquement très facile pour les baguettes, mais nécessite un ressenti, une attention musicale particulière afin de s'intégrer le plus musicalement possible au timbre des sons fixés. Le temps y est fluctuant : du rebond de baguettes à une vitesse impossible physiquement jusqu'à étirer les résonances du timbre de la peau comme des à-plats de couleur hors temps.Dans la quatrième, consacrée aux ras et flas, les sons fixés égrènent un tempo strict face auquel les impacts devront parfois anticiper, parfois retarder les temps forts. L'électronique y démultiplie le son de la caisse, par paquets, créant des agrégats un peu comme pourrait le faire un petit ensemble.L'hémiole est une figure rythmique dans laquelle s'interpénètrent divisions binaire et ternaire.
