Clarinet Sonata op. 107-Just as Johannes Brahms had done with his Opus 120 Reger also provided parts for two alternative solo instruments for his Sonata op. 107: 'I will also arrange the clarinet part for viola so that the work can also be played thus'(letter to his publisher). He by no means wanted to leave the arrangement of the viola part to the publisher as slurs had to be changed here and there as well as octave transpositions had to be made - 'only I can do this work!'The viola’s sonorous mid range comes close to that of the clarinet but lends the work its own timbre. Viola players will also value this Urtext edition on account of the practical fingerings and bowing marks.

Sie beinhaltet Viola-Bearbeitungen der Werke von Fanny Hensel geb. Mendelssohn, Vally Weigl, Lena Stein-Schneider und Ruth Schonthal (Band 1). Das von Schonthal aufgenommene Allegro moderato ist eine Originalkomposition für Viola und Klavier. Im 2. Band begegnen wir den Komponistinnen Helene Liebmann und Sarah Feigin. Der Titel der Ausgabe bezieht sich auf die Rolle der Prophetin Mirjam, der älteren Schwester von Mose und Aaron. Beim Auszug des israelischen Volkes aus Ägypten führte sie nach der Durchquerung des Schilfmeeres den Freudentanz und Gesang der Frauen an (2. Buch Mose 15,20-21). Bezeichnenderweise hat der Berliner Maler Wilhelm Hensel im 19. Jahrhundert seine Frau, die Komponistin Fanny Hensel geb. Mendelssohn, als Mirjam porträtiert.Das Repertoire romantischer Konzertliteratur für Viola ist recht begrenzt. Gefühlvoll: Adagio von Hensel und Nocturno von Stein. Kurzweilig: Old Time Burlesque von Weigl und Reflection on a Niggun von Feigin. Oder Sätze aus Sonaten: Das fließende Allegro moderato von Schonthal und die anspruchsvollen Variationen über la ci darem la mano von Liebmann. The famous opera by George and Ira Gershwin from the novel 'Porgy' by DuBose Heyward. George and Ira Gershwin joined DuBose Heyward in Charleston to write the opera which had been germinating in George's imagination for several years. Porgy and Bess was George Gershwin's longest and most ambitious creation but it was not truly successful during his lifetime. Some of the songs had achieved popularity before Gershwin's death in 1937 but the work earned real approval and favor only after the 1940 Theater Guild presentation of a slightly revised version. For years it was performed more frequently in Europe where it was considered a true American opera. Arranged for viola andpiano by Alan Arnold.
