Allerheiligentag V. Par LINJAMA JYRKI. The material for Jyrki Linjama's Allerheiligentag cycle is a Finnish folk chorale for All Saints' Day (no. 146 in the Finnish Hymn Book). The first work in the cycle is a string trio (2007), the second a piece for orchestra (2009), and the fourth and fifth are solo works for viola da gamba (2018) and Sonata for violin solo (2019). The composer tells: 'The choice of topic and material was originally influenced by the place where the string trio would be premiered ? the old church on the island of Seili (Själö) in the Turku archipelago. The bleak history of the mental hospital on the island invited images of suffering and death. I got so attached to the fine, bleak melody that this series of works began to emerge.' Lasting 17 minutes, the sonata for solo violin has three movements, all of them embracing the folk choral material and Béla Bartók?s influence in different ways. It was premiered by Kaija Saarikettu at the Kaustinen Chamber Music Festival in 2020. / Date parution : 2022-05-31/ Répertoire / Violon

The definitive edition (1987) of the piano teaching classic. Includes an introduction by the composer's son Peter Bartók.
In 1945 Bela Bartok described 'Mikrokosmos' as a cycle of 153 pieces for piano written for 'didactic' purposes, seeing them as a series of pieces in many different styles, representing a small world, or as the 'world of the little ones, the children'. Stylistically Mikrokosmos reflects the influence of folk music on Bartók's life and the rhythms and harmonies employed create music that is as modern today as when the cycle was written.
The 153 pieces making up 'Mikrokosmos' are divided into six volumes arranged according to technical and musical difficulty. / Partition /

Bartok wrote his Piano Concerto No.3 during the summer of 1945 intending it as a birthday present to his wife Ditta on 31st October. By this time he was already gravely ill; however he was able to finish the score with the exception of the last seventeen bars which he notated in a kind of musical shorthand. These last bars were later deciphered and scored by his pupil and friend Tibor Serly. This is a reduction for 2 Pianos four hands by Matyas Seiber.

In Bartók's career the period between 1910 and 1914 was devoted to intensive folk song collecting work. In those years his attention was focussed principally on Romanian folk music (in 1913 he published for example the Bihar collection and most of the Máramaros collection: in March 1913 in just two weeks he recorded 209 songs). The inspiration gained from his collecting journeys in Romania first appeared in the vocal folk song arrangements he composed in 1915 and in the smaller-scale moderately difficult piano series based on Romanian folk music material the Romanian Folk Dances Kolindák and the Sonatina. In the three movements of the Sonatina ('Pipers' 'Bears' Dance' and'Finale') Bartók used altogether five original Romanian melodies. In 1931 he made an orchestral arrangement of this exceptionally popular work and entitled it Transylvanian Dances. (Hungaroton HCD 31604)

20 Easy to Intermediate Pieces from four Centuries. Par NEUMANN EVA-MARIA (Arr.). Making music in a quartet uniquely nurtures young string players’ musical development, ensemble playing, listening to each other, and intonation. So, what could be more obvious than introducing the scoring of this genre, often referred to as chamber music’s supreme discipline, as early as possible.
Indeed, composers have all along advised the classical string quartet’s outstanding compositions, but they are hardly easy to play for beginners. Here, with the present collection, is where Eva-Maria Neumann comes in.
The two volumes include
A total of 20 easy to intermediate arrangements of pieces from Bach to Bartók, together with specifically composed ones in string-quartet friendly keys - Reading scores and individual parts - additionally, individual part for violin III instead of viola - Tips on warming up, intonation, bowing, fingering, tempos, dynamics, and playing musically - Specific instructions for the individual pieces - Lists of supplementary original literature
The pieces are also effective as scored for chorus./ Recueil / Quatuor à Cordes

The Bartók Performing Editions-Instruktive Ausgaben von Béla Bártok. Par BART...(+)
The Bartók Performing Editions-Instruktive Ausgaben von Béla Bártok. Par BARTOK BELA. Bartók probably first played pieces by Domenico Scarlatti in public in 1911. During the next two decades he featured them in his piano recitals more than 60 times. His dedication to Italian and French Baroque music is also illustrated by the fact that in 1920, he signed a contract with the Budapest publisher Rozsnyai to edit seven volumes of Baroque keyboard music. His plan was to select compositions by Couperin and Rameau in addition to pieces by Scarlatti, but during the 1920s it ended up being only two volumes of Couperin and another two comprising ten compositions by Scarlatti. In editing these masterpieces, Bartók's aim was primarily to counterbalance or even overshadow the works by the 'Mendelssohn-Schumann epigones' used in primary and secondary musical education. The present single-volume collection comprises Bartók's two Scarlatti volumes, complete with an editorial preface, his detailed performing instructions, and his commentary. The editor recommends these compositions for pianists with at least five years' experience, and give practical recommendations for the grouping of individual items to form charming 'sonatina-like' sets of pieces./ Répertoire / Piano

First Term at the Piano - 18 easy small pieces selected-This volume consisting of 18 pieces contains works composed by Bartók for the Piano Tutor he edited together with Sándor Reschofsky and published in 1913. These little pieces by Bartók were enthusiastically hailed by the critic Antal Molnár in thecolumns of Nyugat: ? we see that even a piece intended for beginners can be of flesh and blood can have a living soul and a thinking brain. No more wooden-puppet piano literature for it can also be like this. These pieces are not only playablewith real feeling but are so delightful that they educate they inculcate aristocratic simplicity and noble naivety and command respect for timeless true musicality.

Composed in 1910/11, Bartók's Allegro barbaro is one of his best-known and most popular works for piano. The composer himself enjoyed performing it in concerts, and recorded it several times. The recording from 1929, which he referred to as the 'authentic recording?, contains very interesting divergences from the printed version as far as articulation, tempo and even the number of ostinato measures are concerned. For the first time, these have been included in the musical text of our Urtext edition, and also annotated. With this first Bartók Urtext edition, László Somfai gives an insight into the many and varied musical impulses awaiting us in the Béla Bartók Complete Critical Edition, which will be jointly published by Editio Musica Budapest and G.
