(+)
Sing, Choirs! is a library in miniature. It contains many of the Christian church's popular traditional anthems, including at least one example that will be suitable for each of the major services of the year. A number of Anglican chants (Psalms, Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis) are included, set out in a way that should enable those who are unfamiliar with the style to perform them easily. The selection of movements from the Mass can be used to enrich the music of the liturgy in services. Many of the works in Sing, Choirs! are presented in their original form, such as Bruckner's Locus Iste and Mozart's Laudate Dominum . Others are arrangements, adaptations or longer pieces, abridged to bring them into the scope of a useable anthem, including choral arrangements of Handel's Largo , the Ave Marias by Schubert and by Bach and Gounod, and Franck's Panis Angelicus amongst many others. This collection has practicability as a priority. The Organ parts can be played on either the Piano or the Keyboard. Much of the music in Sing, Choirs! will be suitable for special occasions, making this an indispensable volume for choirs singing at weekly church services, weddings, funerals and in the concert hall. / Choeur Mixte (SATB) Et Orgue

Par WHITBOURN JAMES. This glorious collection of beautiful choral music by composer James Whitbourn includes fifteen short works drawn from his oeuvre from the first few years of the 21st century. Many of his greatest compositions are included in The Choral Collection, with many of the pieces working perfectly for seasonal performances, while also reflecting the many fruitful collaborations of Whitbourn's distinguished career. All works are arranged for SATB Choir. James Whitbourn has become renowned throughout the world for his acclaimed compositions and settings of numerous texts. He has been described as truly original and an innovator of contemporary British choral music, collaborating with people like Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the Choir of King's College, Cambridge. The former appears here, as A Prayer Of Desmond Tutu, a setting of one of the Archbishop's prayers. His arrangements and compositions for the King's College Choir have been universally critically acclaimed, with A Great And Mighty Wonder, Nunc Dimittis and Were You There? representing these hugely popular collaborations. Whitbourn has also had a very close relationship with the BBC since his beginnings as a composer, working with them on three pieces within The Choral Collection. Eternal Rest and Give Us The Wings Of Faith were both composed specifically for television broadcast, the former (in its orchestral form) was played for the funeral of the Queen Mother in 2002. His longest work, for which he is most famous, is a setting of text from'the Diary of Anne Frank'. There Is No Speech Or Language comes from this work, taking its text from other sources, but that still maintain the beauty and tragedy of the wider piece. The Choral Collection of fifteen compositions by James Whitbourn is full of beautiful, haunting, uplifting and inspiring melodies for SATB Choir and Organ Accompaniment from one of the most treasured British choral composers. The brilliant choice of texts throughout is matched only by the sheer compositional skill of Whitbourn in evoking the emotions of the words in the musical form. Also included are suggestions for seasonal song use, a list of recordings, and fascinating song notes written by Whitbourn himself. The joy of choral singing is nowhere more evident than in a work by James Whitbourn, and performances of any piece within this collection is sure to be remembered for a long time to come./ Recueil / Choeur Mixte (SATB) et Orgue

Susanni

SATB, Organ
Novello & Co Ltd.
The text of Susanni is a translation of Martin Luther's hymn of 1535, Vom Himmel...
(+)
The text of Susanni is a translation of Martin Luther's hymn of 1535, Vom Himmel hoch . The music is based loosely upon the well-known chorale melody, which, at times, is quoted in full in both voices and organ. Except where indicated, singers should adopt a legato style, especially in the repeated quaver patterns. In the bars which appear to be in compound time, conductors should beat in crotchets. An inspiring selection of new works from a range of contemporary composers, the Novello New Choral Series offers pieces for all types of choirs, including sacred and secular works from simple, four-part settings to more expansive, yet accessible, repertoire in an exciting variety of styles. Bill Ives has spent his life in choral music - as a singer, conductor, teacher and composer (writing as Grayston Ives). He was a chorister at Ely Cathedral and later studied music at Cambridge, taking composition lessons with Richard Rodney Bennett. A jolly Christmas carol-This lively carol was commissioned in 2005 by Lichfield Cathedral Special Choir (now called the Cathedral Chorus) to celebrate the birth of Hannah Scriven and Holly Mason the daughters of the two cathedral organists at that time. The words were specially written by Tony Barnard the then Canon Chancellor at Lichfield and a member of the choir. This carol whilst not entirely foreign to my normal style touches more ‘country and western’/popular buttons than I am in the habit of touching. But I wanted to write a tuneful piece which swayed and danced and reflected the colourful imagery of Tony Barnard’s text. Recommended recording: Comeout Lazar – The shorter choral works of Paul Spicer (Regent REGCD280) by The Chapel Choir of Selwyn College Cambridge and Claire Innes-Hopkins (organ) directed by Sarah MacDonald. Text: This child of God who’s born on Christmas day whom shepherds view to whom kings homage pay is called to be a shepherd and a king. Sing alleluias praise this wondrous thing. This child of God is shepherd born to lead through pastures green by banks of golden reed; nor left nor right but ever on the way which leads to Calvary and endless day. This child of God this Son of David’s line is root of tree a shoot a fruitful vine it shelter gives to all who see the way which leads them to the cross and Easter day. This child of God this many spangled star is light’ning flash which dazzles near and far; bright light to guide our feet along the way that leads to Calvary and endless day. This child of God is called to save mankind to open eye and ear the heart and mind; to heal and make the lame man leap and play along the road that leads to Easter Day. This child of God let angel voices praise. Give God the glory live his loving ways. Let peace on earth o’er come our worldly strife through all who walk his road throughout their life. Tony Barnard

Par BRUCKNER ANTON. Great art in small forms ? Bruckner's smaller sacred works reveal a more personal side to the master symphonist and creator of large-scale orchestral masses. Throughout his life, Bruckner?s deep faith and dedication to the Catholic liturgy inspired him to write church music in smaller forms suitable for performance at Sunday services or in sacred concerts. The long phrases and shimmering sounds of Locus iste, the chromatic modulations and thrilling climaxes in Christus factus est (1884) and in Virga Jesse (1885), or the use of church modes in almost all the motets present a range of fascinating challenges to any choir. In addition to the well-known motets, the choral collection includes smaller sacred works such as short mass settings (a cappella or with organ) and simple liturgical songs and hymns, some with organ or occasionally with trombones. In addition, the volume presents two somewhat longer works from Bruckner?s youth: a Magnificat and a setting of Psalm 23, both with piano accompaniment. The Choral Collection Bruckner. Sacred Choral Music is an expanded new edition of the successful choral collection Anton Bruckner für Gottesdienst und Konzert (Sacred works for worship and concert, Carus 2.065).A detailed preface and several indexes supplement the musical scores in the editionCHORLEITUNG with information on the works and their liturgical usability. An affordable volume (editionCHOR) is also available for purchase, as well as separate editions in print and digital form.?,New expanded volume featuring 39 sacred choral works at all levels of difficulty?,For use both in worship and in concert / Date parution : 2023-06-01/ Répertoire / SATB et Piano

Novello New Choral Series-Why O Lord do you stand far off? was written in memory of the victims of the London bombings on 7 July 2005 questions the presence of God in times of human disaster particularly when committed by man upon his fellow man. The piece's focus lies in the two rhetorical questions first sung by the female voices at the beginning. This opening three note motif returns frequently throughout the work forever challenging the whereabouts of God's watchful eye. This commemorative setting of Psalm 10 was recorded by the Exeter College Chapel Choir in 2006.The Novello New Choral Series is an inspiring selection of new works from a range of contemporarycomposers offering pieces for all types of choirs including sacred and secular works from simple four-part settings to more expansive yet accessible repertoire in an exciting variety of styles. (+)
Following the publication of Francis Jackson's organ reduction of Finzi's Requiem da Camera in 2014, Robert Gower, chairman of the Finzi Trust, recitalist and organist of Nottingham Cathedral, has created reductions of the full orchestra accompaniments to two more of Finzi's choral works. These reductions broaden the reach of these works to choirs which do not wish to present the works with orchestra, as with other standards from the sacred repertoire such the Requiems of Fauré and Duruflé. The reductions sympathetically recreate the orchestra scoring for a three-manual organ. Ingeniously, the manual couplings (II to III, II and III to I) are unaltered throughout, with pedal coupled to manuals as appropriate. Detailed registrations are not indicated as these are best left to the performer, taking into account the unique circumstances of the particular instrument, size of choir and acoustic setting at each performance. The scores are user-friendly, in landscape format and with at least one principal vocal line cued throughout, and a cappella choral passages are reproduced in full. The reductions are fully compatible with the published piano vocal scores of the respective works which the singers will use. For St Cecilia, Ceremonial Ode for tenor solo, chorus and orchestra - words by Edmund Blunden. The original work was commissioned by the St Cecilia's Day Festival Committee for the 1947 celebration of music's patron saint. The ceremonial mood is established with fanfares, and the sonorous sweep of the choral writing reflects Finzi's admiration for Parry and Elgar. The 'catalogue' of saints, shared between the soloist and chorus, are deftly delineated: St Valentine, St George, St Dunstan, St Swithin and St Cecilia herself. In rapt stillness, the English composers of the past - Merbecke, Byrd, Dowland and Purcell - are summoned. To close, Finzi creates a festal summation with exultant counterpoint and the saint's name pealing around the chorus. / Choeur Mixte (SATB) Et Orchestre

Book 5 of the Sing Out! series features wonderful new choral arrangements of five top pop tunes, all arranged by renowned Vocal Coach and Choral Director extraordinaire Mark De-Lisser. Each song has been beautifully arranged for SAT chorus, the unison harmonies totally reinvigorating these favourite pop songs. From the classic rock anthem of the 1980s in Toto's Africa, to the modern pop heartbreaker All Of Me by John Legend, these are great songs with even greater arrangements. The unabashed positivity of Nico and Vinz's Am I Wrong makes a fantastic counterpart to the optimism in the face of pain represented by the arrangement of the traditional gospel song Take My Hand, Precious Lord, a tune used to wonderfully affecting effect in the recent film 'Selma'. Finally, this fresh pop choral setlist is rounded off nicely with Ed Sheeran's Thinking Out Loud, a beautiful love song in which the power and emotion of the words will enhance the performance. Arranged for SAT (Soprano/Alto/Tenor) Choir, these songs are designed to be sung to backing tracks, but Piano accompaniments and Guitar chord boxes are included for rehearsal purposes, or if you wish to perform with a live band. Aside from De-Lisser's incredible arrangements, this pack includes an innovative and user-friendly download card with performance backing tracks, full demonstrations and individual rehearsal tracks of each Vocal part recorded by members of ACM Gospel Choir. Helpful hints for performing each piece are also included in this book, giving you everything you need to learn these well-loved songs.Mark De-Lisser is a celebrated Vocal Coach and Choral Director, who has been featured on BBC1's 'Last Choir Standing'. His extensive introduction and notes within this songbook bring a personal touch, as De-Lisser really is passionate about getting people singing, improvising and, most of all, enjoying themselves. The new Choral arrangements of these fantastic pop tracks are ideal for spicing up a performance with these tunes, reinvigorated with lush harmonies and rich voices, all the while retaining the magic and meaning of the original songs. At your next performance, make sure you Sing Out!, leaving your audience truly astonished. / Choeur SAT

Novello New Choral Series- La Ballade de Jésus Christ is an arrangement of a French carol from the seventeeth century or earlier. The tune is well known as the hymn Let all mortal flesh keep silence from The English Hymnal and this arrangement was commissioned in 2007 by the Oxford choir Sospiri for their CD of Christmas music Videte Miraculum. The text a miniature morality tale has a simple almost childlike quality to it and this is reflected in the shimmering harmonies and soft fleeting dissonances presenting the story as a bitter-sweet fairy tale. The Novello New Choral Series is an inspiring selection of new works from a range ofcontemporary composers offering pieces for all types of choirs including sacred and secular works from simple four-part settings to more expansive yet accessible repertoire in an exciting variety of styles. This collection is perfect for choirs looking to broaden their repertoire and explore some of the best new music around.Born in 1963 John Duggan was a chorister at Westminster Cathedral and studied music at Oxford. Antonio Vivaldi?s Magnificat in G minor has come down to us in two conflicting versions. The earlier one probably the original version (RV 610) is dominated by impressive but largely straightforward choral passages set against a few brief vocal ensembles manageable by soloists from the choir. In the later version (RV 611) the solo parts and one chorus are replaced by demanding virtuoso arias. Andreas Köhs arrangement for soloists chorus and organ allows performers to choose between these two versions and is equally suitable for use in church and concert hall.Standard repertoire work easy to performIndependent version for soloists (RV 610: SSAT;RV 611: SA) chorus (SATB) and organClear and well presented organ partSuitable for use in church and concert hallDuration: ca. 15 minutes (RV 610) or 20 minutes (RV 611)The Bärenreiter Choir & Organ Series presents great choral works in arrangements for soloists choir and organ; no orchestra is needed. The original orchestral parts have been transcribed into easy-to-play organ reductions whereby the contemporary tradition of such arrangements has been taken into consideration. In some cases the original organ versions by the composer were used. The organ parts are presented on three staves. The choir and solo parts always remain true to the original. You need only one edition for soloists singers and organist alike.

The text of Susanni is a translation of Martin Luther’s hymn of 1535 Vom Himmel hoch. The music is based loosely upon the well-known chorale melody which at times is quoted in full in both voices and organ. Except where indicated singers should adopt a legato style especially in the repeated quaver patterns. In the bars which appear to be in compound time conductors should beat in crotchets. An inspiring selection of new works from a range of contemporary composers the Novello New Choral Series offers pieces for all types of choirs including sacred and secular works from simple four-part settings to more expansive yetaccessible repertoire in an exciting variety of styles. Heilig-Messe-Bernard of Offida 1604 1694 was a Capuchin monk whose saintly life and devotion to the sick and poor caused him to be beatified by Pope Pius VI on 19 May 1795. St. Bernard?s name day falls on the 11th of September (a Saturday in 1797) and it is generally thought that Haydn combined doing honour to the Capuchin monk with the production of a new Mass for his patron the day thereafter.Apparently later performances in Eisenstadt added horns to double the trumpets in the tuttis and just as in the previous Mass the clarinet parts were enlarged; it is almost certain that the new clarinet parts are either by Haydn or (shall we say) ?supervised? by him. As inthe Mass in Time of War conductors have the choice of two orchestrations: with or without doubling horns and with or without the supplementary clarinet parts. The Heiligmesse has always been one of Haydn?s most admired works. Its dignity its strength (we draw special attention to the extraordinary ?Gratias? with its brilliant contrapuntal writing) the subdued orchestral grandeur to which the B-flat trumpets contribute a silvery but unmartial weight all these have made it one of Haydn?s most serious and most deeply sensitive church works: its constant popularity in Viennese churches is quite deserved.Urtext from Joseph Haydn WerkeFull score (together with Missa Cellensis [Mariazellermesse] Hob.XXII:8; Missa brevis Sti Joannis de Deo [Little Organ Mass] Hob.XXII:7; Missa in Tempore Belli [Mass in Time of War] Hob.XXII:9) available for saleParts (BA4651) and vocal score (BA4651-90) available for sale

POD-James Whitbourn's Agnus Dei From Missa Carolae. Missa Carolae was commissioned by Rochester Cathedral the second oldest cathedral in England to mark the 1400th anniversary ofits foundation. It was first performed there on 24 December 2004 by the Rochester Cathedral Choirs Andy Findon (Fife) the Locke Brass Consort Edmund Aldhouse (Organ) Joby Burgess and Catherine Ring (Percussion) directed byRoger Sayer. The work is intended to invoke a dance-like spirit which is true to the origin of the carol as a simple dance form. The choir parts should be very well-known so that the singers can sing with the whole oftheir bodies and not just their voices. This version is a reduced scoring for SATB (unchanged) with Organ and optional Piccolo and also acts as the vocal score to the full version. In this scoring the Piccolo adds to theeffectiveness of the piece. In either scoring the Piccolo may be replaced with a Flute Fife or even a more rustic Pipe as was used at the first performance. The original scoring for SATB with Piccolo Brass (3 Trumpetsand 3 Trombones) Percussion (2 players) and Organ accompaniment is the preferred version. Full score and parts are available on hire from the publisher or full score on sale (CH71621). The Piccolo part (CH79893-01) is common toboth scorings and is available on sale or hire with the full version. The Organ accompaniment in this score is for performance of the version for SATB Piccolo and Organ only. An A4 spiral-bound version of this score may bepreferable for the organist (CH79893-02). The separate Organ part - available on hire - must be used for the version with instruments. An ad lib. part for the congregation (CH70961 pack of 50) is incorporated into the fullscoring of Missa Carolae. Reference to the entries of the congregation is made in the vocal score for occasions when it is used in conjunction with the full instrumentation.

This anthem will feel immediately familiar to many listeners! Wilberg has adapted the words of a traditional hymn and set them to the melody of O little town of Bethlehem. This selection of relatively short sacred works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart gives active choruses an opportunity to perform these pieces without having to hire an expensive instrumental ensemble. The works including the moving ?Te Deum laudamus ? (K. 141) the brilliant ?Jubilate? from ? Benedictus sit Deus? (K. 117) and the immortal ?Ave verum? are well-suited to performance in church services or concerts. Andreas Köhs has sensitively arranged the orchestral parts for organ using the original score to produce self-contained versions for chorus and organ. The vocal parts follow the Urtext of the New Mozart Edition.Self-contained versions with organ instead oforchestraIdeal for church services and concertsStraightforward easy-to-play organ partThe Bärenreiter Choir & Organ Series presents great choral works in arrangements for soloists choir and organ; no orchestra is needed.

Benjamin Britten: Te Deum In C: SATB: Score

(+)
In preparing for publication the 1935 orchestral version of Britten's Te Deum in C it became clear that there were a number of discrepancies between the manuscript and the original 193 vocal score. Some of these were minor:different articulation and dynamic markings something Britten was later very fussy about but perhaps left unchanged on proof because of his relative inexperience at this stage of his career with the processes of musicpublishing. Others were more important: wrong pedal notes for example which Britten failed to notice on proof and which have been perpetuated in performances and recordings for nearly seventy years. These have been corrected inthe new edition of the vocal score and in the orchestral score (Britten clearly used the published vocal score to prepare his orchestral version). The two versions have been made consistent in other details - rehearsal cues andbar numbers for example - since Britten intended choristers to use the vocal score to perform the orchestral version. This would have been an easy task for these is little discrepancy in essential details between versions (arare departure occurs in bars 53 to 56 where the works 'Lord God of Sabaoth' are unaccompanied in the orchestral version but doubled by Organ in the original). Sustained Organ chords are often filled out with arpeggiated stringwriting while the spacing of chords is frequently much wider in the string version with melodies transposed into different octaves. Although harmony in both versions is identical voice leading is sometimes altered in the latterto make it better suited to the idioms of the instruments concerned. So although in essence the two versions are the same the soundworld explored in each is quite distinct. Britten's orchestral version should neither beviewed as an occasional piece nor considered solely a liturgical work like many of his choral pieces from the 1930s and 1940s it is equally at home in church and concert hall.

Wherever you are, our hearts still beat as one, I hold you in my dreams each night, until your task is done. Light up the darkness, my wondrous star, Our hopes and dreams, my heart and yours, forever shining far. Light up the darkness, my prince of peace - May the stars shine all around you, may your courage never cease. Wherever I am, I will love you day by day, I will keep you safe, cling on to faith, along the dark, dark way. Wherever I am, I will hold on through the night - I will pray each day, a safe return, will look now to the light. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
