None of these collections had from the start the appearance which the composer considered as valid in the end. For this reason, Werner Breig focuses in particular on questions of origin in his introduction. Fundamental findings on the genesis of the Clavier Übung III were made only after the publication of the work in the Neue Bach-Ausgabe. The basically unproblematic state of the sources means that this volume contains no CD-ROM with supplementary materials. It was, however, considered editorially necessary to print the Canonische Veränderungen BWV 769 in three versions: as a facsimile of the original print, in a practical arrangement, and in the autograph version (BWV 769a). Scherzo For Organ was first published in 1917. It is dedicated to John Connell a South African organist and Organ builder with whom the composer became great friends when he travelled to Cape Town and Johannesburg. Alfred Hollins (1865-1942) was an inspirational British organist composer and teacher. Blind from birth he travelled all over the UK and the British Empire giving concerts and designing Organs. He eventually settled in Scotland where he was an organist in Edinburgh for over forty years.

Jehan Alain (1911-1940) was a French organist and composer. The second volume of Alain's Organ Works is comprised of Variations on a Theme by Clément Jannequin The Suspended Garden and Aria as well as other favourites from the composer. Alain studied with Organ virtuosos Guilmant and Vierne and was primarily an organist and composer of religious music. Whilst at the Paris Conservatoire Alain won many prizes and his composition catalogue comprises some 140 works.
