With a text excerpted from the beautiful Stacy Barton Poem 'Flight?, here we sing of yearning, dreaming, and the sensation of flying. David Brunner has set this text with a gentle lyricism and a dance-like quality with buoyant, lifted phrases.A full orchestration for strings, winds, piano and light percussion, is colorful and of a moderate challenge, though the piano version works nicely as well. / Choeur Et Piano

Ludwig van Beethoven: Sextet Based On The Piano Concerto: Piano & Strings: Score

(+)
arranged for Pianoforte and String Quintet-Concerto for Pianoforte and Orchestra No.4 Op.58: arranged for Pianoforte and String Quintet.Piano Violin (2) Viola (2) Violoncello. This anonymous sextet arrangement of Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto was highly popular in Vienna during the composer’s lifetime. We know this from at least two sets of handwritten parts which were then in circulation. No Piano part has been handed down; indeed the original sets of parts probably omitted the Piano. The soloist presumably studied his part from the first edition of the solo part published with the original performance material in 1808. (The full score did not appear until 1861).The sextetversion deftly integrates the original wind parts into the string texture. The arrangement stands in the tradition of Piano reductions with chamber music accompaniment of the sort which were also made for Mozart’s Piano concertos K.413 to 415 and later for the Chopin concertos. This Urtext edition edited by the renowned Beethoven scholar Jonathan Del Mar presents this arrangement for the first time in print. The musical text is supplemented by an informative Introduction and a Critical Commentary.First ever publication of this arrangement.Includes a separate solo part as was customary in Beethoven’s day.Provides new possibilities for soloists to perform this work.

(+)
Written in 1934 by Alexandre Glazounov (1865-1936) this Eb Concerto for Alto-Saxophone is a fourteen-minute piece dedicated to Sigmud M. Rasher a famous Saxophonist and soloist. Initially composed for Saxophone and Strings there was no mention of a second composer even though the 1936 publication adapted for Saxophone and Piano mentioned the name by André Petiot (1886-1976). The concerto starts with an Allegro moderato in 4/4 followed by an Andante transition mainly in C flat major at 3/4 and ending on a Fugato in 12/8. The first performance of this concerto in public occurred after the death ofits author in Paris. Alexandre Glazounov (1865-1936) is a famous Russian romantic composer. Considered as a prodigy and mentored by Belyayev he composed ballets concertos symphonies and later became director of the Saint Petersburg Conservatory. He had a strong influence on Stravinsky's and Shostakovich's careers and died near Paris in 1936. This concerto is a classical piece of the Saxophone romantic repertoire.

(+)
John McCabe's Nocturnal For Piano Quintet was composed in 1966 commissioned by the Park Lane Group London and first performed by the Lancaster University Ensemble. Duration: Approximately 13 minutes. Composers Note:Â The title of this work is a reference to John Donne's poem A Nocturnal upon St Lucie's Day the mood of which is reflected in the quintet. It falls into several movements played without a break: Introduction (Andante) setting forth the main thematic ideas of the music; Nocturne 1 (Allegro vivo) an agitated virtuoso scherzo-like section; a tripartite central part of the work consisting of two Cadenzasframing a brief Interlude the first Cadenza being largely for strings the second mainly for piano and the Interlude harking back to the feeling of the Introduction; Nocturne 2 (Andante molto) a slow piece gradually building to a unison theme on strings accompanied by a tolling piano background. This dies down to lead to an Epilogue ending with a final reference to the work's opening bars.Â

Composer's note:''Quartet' when mentioned in the context of concert music is generally assumed to mean 'string quartet'. In my case the quartet hat has played a central role in many of my pieces (besides the string quartet) is that of two pianos and two percussion. It appears like that or in expanded form with more pianos or more percussion in The Desert Music Sextet Three Movements The Four Sections The Cave Dance Patterns Three Tales You Are (Variations) Variations for Vibes Pianos and Strings Daniel Variations Double Sextet and Radio Rewrite . In Quartet there is just this group alone: two vibes and two pianos. The piece is one of the morecomplex I have composed. It frequently changes key and often breaks off continuity to pause or take up new material. Though the parts are not unduly difficult it calls for a high level of ensemble virtuosity. The form is one familiar throughout history: fast slow fast played without pause. The slow movement introduces harmonies not usually found in my music.'

(+)
Piano Concerto No. 4 In C Minor (concerto pour Piano en ut mineur) Op. 44 by Camille Saint-Saëns is the composer's most structurally innovative Piano concerto. In one sense it is like a four-movement symphony but these are grouped in pairs. That is the piece is divided into two parts each of which combines two main movements (Part 1: I. Moderatetempo Theme and Variations in C Minor; II. Slower Theme and Variations in A-flat Major; Part 2: III. Scherzo in C Minor; IV. Finale in C Major). However in each part there is a bridge-like transitional section between the two main 'movements' for example a fugal Andante in part II functions as aninterlude between the two main sections. The concerto begins with a gently mischievous chromatic subject heard in dialogue between the strings and piano soloist and continues in a creative thematic development similar to Saint-Saëns' Third Symphony. The composer demonstrates brilliant skill in employing the piano and orchestra almost equally. In the Andante he moves to A-flat major with a chorale-like theme in the woodwinds (also strikingly similar to the tune of the Third Symphony's final section) and uses this as a platform on which to build a series of variations before bringing the movement to a quiet close. The Allegro vivace begins again in C minor as a high-spirited scherzo using material foreshadowed in the first movement. 2/4 and 6/8 are playfully juxtaposed throughout. At one point the Piano boldly leads the orchestra in an energetic 6/8 theme in Eflat major. Eventually the orchestra moves to a lush Andante recapitulating the Andante section from the first movement. Rather suddenly the piano climbs up to a flurry of double octave trills and a climactic trumpet fanfare leads to the jubilant finale based on a hymn-like theme in triple time. The concerto concludes with the piano in glittering cascades guiding the orchestra to a fortissimo close. The piano concerto was premièred in 1875 with the

(+)
In a letter dating from 1777 Mozart reported to his father from Mannheim that Johann Baptist Wendling principal Flautist of the famous Mannheim Orchestra had been approached by a wealthy Dutch businessman by the name of De Jean who was prepared to pay 200 gulden for three easy flute concertos and four flute quartets for his own use. Mozart accepted the commission. By the day before the Dutchman left Mozart had delivered only three of the quartets andtwo concertos for which he had been paid 964 gulden. The composer who was himself being pressed by his father to continue his own journey to Paris with his mother was full of excuses writing back to Salzburg on 14 February 'It is not surprising I have been unable to finish them for I never have a single hour's quiet here...Moreover you know I become quite powerless when I am obliged to write for an instrument I can't stand.' There is more than a hint of disingenuousness in Mozart's words for this was the height of the period during which he was being distracted from his work by his new-found love for the Mannheim singer Aloysia Weber. (He ultimatelymarried her sister Constanze.) If Mozart's dislike of the Flute was as great as he claimed there are few signs in the Flute Concerto No.1 in G major particularly in the expressive central Adagio ma non troppo. The outermovements are an Allegro maestoso and a concluding Rondo: Tempo di Menuetto. The work is scored for two oboes (replaced by flutes in the Adagio) two horns and strings. This Great Performers' Edition is edited byJames Galway.

Par JOLIVET ANDRE. Andre Jolivet (1905-1974) composed this Concerto for Flute and Strings in 1949. Initially written for Flute and String Orchestra, this version contains the scores for the Flute and the Piano and lasts 12 minutes. This strong> Concerto for Flute and Strings is quite unusual as it was only created in two movements, each divided into a slow introduction and a fast main part. Used as one of the main pieces of the Geneva music contest ; Concours de Genève in 2014, this concerto requires advanced skills. Andre Jolivet is a French composer who was really inspired by theAntiquity and had a strong interest for atonality. He also wrote many chamber music pieces, eleven concertos, some orchestral and some vocal music./ Répertoire / Flûte Traversière et Piano

Initially written for Flute and String Orchestra this version contains the scores for the Flute and the Piano and lasts 12 minutes. This strong>Concerto for Flute and Strings is quite unusual as it was only created in two movements each divided into a slow introduction and a fast main part. Used as one of the main pieces of the Geneva music contest “Concours de Genève” in 2014 this concerto requires advanced skills. André Jolivet is a French composer who was really inspired by theAntiquity and had a strong interest for atonality.
