'Romance for violin and piano is a short reflective piece that exploits the lyrical qualities inherent in the combination. Originally written for a very young but talented violinist Romance travels through numerous moods andcolours within a continuous musical development of the opening material. At first gentle and reflective with increasing dramatic outbursts outlined by the violin sforzandi and parallel sixths in the piano writing numerous shortsolo passages in both instruments culminate in a fiery climax. Quickly subsiding into the calmer yet now more melancholy strains of the earlier stages of the piece the ending is somewhat incomplete. This seems to suggest acontinuous turn of events alluded to in the music.'???????????? - Helen GrimeBorn in 1981 Helen studied oboe with JohnAnderson and composition with Julian Anderson and Edwin Roxburgh at the Royal College of Music. Considering his significant musical training Hakim's compositions are created from a wealth of knowledge and understanding Concerto For Violin being no exception. Composed in 2002 Concerto For Violin with String Orchestra or Piano reduction accompaniment is highly modern in composition. With a typical performance lasting about 35 minutes the concerto is made up of three movements. Thesolo Violin line addresses many virtuosic techniques including double and triple stops articulation complex rhythms varying bowings and a huge range of performance directions amongst other aspects. As a passionate composer organist and ornithologist many of Olivier Messiaen's works incorporate these three elements. However he took a different stance for his Thème et Variations for Violin and Piano composing it as a wedding present for his first wife Claire Delbos in 1932. The couple gave its first performance during the same year. Admitted to the Paris Conservatoire at the mere age of eleven Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992) was an outstanding pupil winning many prizes. Thème et Variations was composed shortly after his appointment as titular organist at the Sainte Trinité church inParis and is often considered to be characteristic of his famous Quatour pour la fin du temps. Made up of a theme and five variations it begins simplistically before entering the complex variations. The theme is composed in common time and at a moderate tempo. Each variation varies in dynamics time signature tempo tonality and rhythm among other elements; however Messiaen cleverly retains suggestions of the theme all throughout. Challenging as it is Thème et Variations is an exciting varied and compelling performance piece for all advanced violinists.

D: Violin: Instrumental
Work Violin and Piano Peters
While Pachelbel has been most admired as a composer of organ works and Lutheran ...(+)
While Pachelbel has been most admired as a composer of organ works and Lutheran church music his Canon in D has long been one of his most celebrated compositions. It combines two time-honored compositional devices. The first of these is of course the canon a procedure whereby a melody in one part is strictly imitated by one or more other parts; a round (such as for example Frère Jacques) is a type of canon. The second device involves a short bass line (refeered to as a ground bass) that is repeated constandly over which the composer writes continuous variations. In its original form the work consists of an initial statement of an eight note ground bass followed by27 variations in strict canonic style for three violins above that bass. In addition to these four essential parts an appropriate harmonic background would have been improvised on harpsichord lute or organ. In the present arrangement Pachelbel's note values have been doubled for greater ease of reading and the work's canonic structure has been somewhat modified in order to make it more readily playable by violinists and pianists at an intermediate level. Since dynamics bowing indications articulations and slurs were not customarily provided by composer of the Baroque era the arranger and the editor have added them here as well as a metronome indication and a few cadential trills. Obviously these editorial additions should be regarded only as suggestions.

Pour Violon (ou Flûte) et Piano-Composer and conductor Eugène Bozza (1905-1991) was a pupil of Henri Büsser and Henri Rabaud at the Conservatoire de Paris and received the first Prix de Rome in 1934. It was during his stay the Villa Medici that he wrote his Aria Pour Saxophone Alto Et Piano – an adaptation of the third movement of Johan Sebastian Bach’s Organ Pastorale in F Major BWV 590 which was to tour the world. This nostalgia-imbued melody which expands over a regular meter has in turn been the subject of numerous transcriptions first for clarinet then for Violin (or Flute) and Piano. Éditions Leduc have chosen torepublish this last version with the added bonus of an audio version that should be of valuable assistance to all musicians!

for Violin Viola and Orchestra-There is no reference to the origin occasion or a performance of the Sinfonia concertante in E-flat for Violin Viola and Orchestra K. 364 (320d) because in all probability it was composed in Salzburg (presumably in summer or early autumn 1779): Mozart seems to have had no reason to write about it. It was apparently in Paris that he first had the occasion of giving the genre of the ?Symphonie concertante? his special attention. On April 5 1778 he wrote to his father: ?Now I shall write a sinfonie concertante for flute wendling oboe Ramm Punto horn and Ritter bassoon?.Even more discouraging must have been the fact that he had similardifficulties in Paris in having the works performed as he had in Mannheim. After the organizier of the Concerts spirituels Le Gros contrary to his promise did not include the mentioned ?sinfonie concertante? in his program.Mozart had no reason to compose any more for this genre in Paris. After Mozart?s return to Salzburg he might have been eager to introduce the new genre there especially since adequate instrumentalists were available. Also the choice of the solo instruments (violin and viola) in the work presented here was probably influenced by the popularity of this instrumental combination in Salzburg at that time.- Urtext of the New Mozart Edition- Full score

COMPOSER'S NOTESThe music of these violin duos has been influenced by the centuries-long flow of traditional music from the British Isles to North America and back again. The compositions are dedicated toseveral people who are keeping that transatlantic musical flow in motion today.Sleep Sound Ida Mornin'Sleep Sound ida Mornin' is a very short duo for two violins based on a traditionaltune which I first heard in the Orkney Islands although played there on the banjo by a native of Kansas. My extended version with a slow introduction was first played in Boston on 29th January 1995 by Lesley Chen and NathanSchmidt members of the New England Conservatory's Preparatory Division during their annual weekend festival of contemporary music. This very remarkable and encouraging event was devised and organised by Rodney Lister to whomthis piece is dedicated.Duration c. 2 minutes.Atlantic DriftAn earlier even shorter version of Atlantic Drift written for violin and piano was first performed by PeterSheppard Skaerved and Aaron Schorr at the Royal Academy of Music London on 9th May 2006 in a concert to celebrate the 70th birthday of the American composer and transatlantic communicator Elliott Schwartz. The melody isoriginal though clearly influenced by the music and perpetual tides of the Hebrides. Duration c. 3 minutes.Rain and Mist are on the Mountain I'd Better Buy SomeShoesThis four-movement duo for two violins is based on a fragment of a Gaelic folk song from Barra in the Western Isles of Scotland. The title suggests that although the Gaels of yesteryear were rich inpoetic expression and the beauties of nature they were otherwise not very affluent. Rain and Mist was first performed at the Wigmore Hall London on 6th February 2005 by Corina Belcea and Laura Samuel.Duration c. 6

Par COLERIDGE-TAYLOR SAMUEL. The period of composition (ca. 1893) for the Suite ...(+)
Par COLERIDGE-TAYLOR SAMUEL. The period of composition (ca. 1893) for the Suite de Pièces for violin and piano or violin and organ was especially productive for Samuel Coleridge-Taylor (1875-1912) in the realm of chamber music. Unpublished works include a piano quintet, clarinet sonata, nonet, piano trio, and a piano sonata. It is notable that the different versions of the Suite for piano and organ are so contrasting. Typically, pieces in this genre that exist in versions for piano and organ have little that separate them in terms of musical content. However, Coleridge-Taylor not only approaches each keyboard instrument quite differently but conceived the violin part with notable melodic differences. This can be considered exceptional as they were both issued by the same publisher within a close timeframe. Coleridge-Taylor would have been very familiar with the organ from his early church experience as a boy in addition to studies at the Royal College of Music with Walter Alcock. His writing is consistently idiomatic for the instrument. The few registrational directions in the first edition, assuming they are by Coleridge-Taylor, demonstrate an understanding of the need to balance the organ part with the violin part so that the organ is not too loud. Rather than numbering the manuals I and II, with II being the quieter manual, the score indicates Swell and Choir but there is no requirement for the Great to be used. There are also extended sections where no manual indication is given at all. Whether the registration markings were made by Coleridge-Taylor or an editor at Schott is unclear but the indication for a Choir manual suggests not so much the need for an organ of three manuals but an instrument with a range of foundational colours for writing that is often accompanimental in nature. / Date parution : 2023-06-01/ Répertoire / Violon et Orgue

Par BACH JOHANN SEBASTIAN. Bach would almost certainly have approved of this string quartet arrangement of his famous concerto for violin and oboe (BWV 1060) by John Cooley as he was well known for making arrangements of his own works, according to instrumental resources at his disposal. Bach himself made an arrangement of this piece for two solo harpsichords and string orchestra. It is quite ?notey? but straightforward and accessible technically to reasonably good players as there are no tricky rhythms or high notes.
As well as this Bach concerto arrangement, SJ Music has also published John Cooley?s arrangements of Mozart?s piano duets K497 and K521 for piano trio and piano quartet respectively, Bach?s organ Passacaglia and Fugue for string quartet, and one of Purcell?s trio sonatas for string trio. / Date parution : 2022-03-16/ Répertoire / Quatuor à Cordes
