Jean de Hollande (1538-1553) was a South Netherlandish composer. He was assistant kapelmeester at St Salvator, Bruges, from 1538. In 1544 he was dismissed for bad conduct. It has been suggested that Jean de Hollande and Christian Hollander (whose name is not found before 1549) are the same person.

Christian Hollander (1515-1568) Was presumably born in Dordrecht (Netherlands), active in Bruges and Oudenaarde (Flanders). Joins the imperial chapel of Ferdinand I in 1558, moving to Vienna and Prague. Died in Innsbruck. Because of many crossed references.

The English lyrics translate to (my thanks to Jenne Van Antwerpen):

Goodbye to the One I served, as good as I could, all my life.
To the one I have enslaved, more then enyone before.
Everything was forsaken me.
If I did You wrong by serving You, my God, please forgive me.

Although this piece was originally written for Chorus (SATTTB), I created this arrangement for Woodwind Sextet (Flute, Alto Flute, Oboe, English Horn, Bb Clarinet and Bassoon).
