| Ajoutée par magataganm, 06 Sep 2013 Joseph Leopold Eybler (1765 - 1846) was an Austrian composer known today perhaps more for his friendship with Mozart than for his own music. Eybler was born into a musical family. His father was a teacher, choir director and friend of the Haydn family. Joseph Eybler studied music with his father before attending Stephansdom (the cathedral school of St. Stephen's Boys College) in Vienna. He studied composition under Johann Georg Albrechtsberger, who declared him to be the greatest musical genius in Vienna apart from Mozart. He also received praise from Haydn who was his friend, distant cousin and patron. In 1792 he became choir director at the Karmeliterkirche (Carmelite Church) in Vienna. Two years later he moved to the Schottenkloster, where he remained for the next thirty years (1794-1824). Eybler also held court posts, including that of court Kapellmeister (chapel master) (1824–33). The Empress Marie Therese commissioned many works from him, including the Requiem in C minor (1803). The Gradual is a chant or hymn in the liturgical celebration of the Eucharist for many Christian denominations. In the Tridentine Mass it was and is sung after the reading or chanting of the Epistle and before the Alleluia, or, during penitential seasons, before the Tract. In the Mass of Paul VI the gradual corresponds to the Responsorial Psalm. There is the option to replace this psalm with the gradual, but its use is extremely rare. It is part of the Proper of the Mass. Although the Gradual: "Non in multitudine est virtus tua Domine" ("It's not in the multitude is your power, O Lord") in F Major was composed for Accompainied Chorus, I created this arrangement for Winds (Flute, Oboe, Bb Clarinet, French Horn & Bassoon), Strings (Violins (2), Viola & Cello) & Acoustic Piano. | |||
