He was largely unrecognised in his lifetime but today is widely regarded as an important figure in the history of poetry and visual arts - In 2002, Blake was placed at number 38 in the BBC's poll of the greatest 100 Great Britons. He was something of a maverick in his lifetime and defended the rights of women, and promoted gender equality. Blake lived most of his life in London. The total duration of this piece is 4 minutes 30 seconds. It is suitable for performers of intermediate ability. The time signature is 4/4 with a moderate tempo. The lyrics are derived from the poem "To the Evening Star" by William Blake, the music is composed by Alastair Lewis. |
