Added by magataganm, 10 Jul 2017 Johann Sebastian Bach was a German composer, organist, harpsichordist, violist, and violinist whose sacred and secular works for choir, orchestra, and solo instruments drew together the strands of the Baroque period and brought it to its ultimate maturity. Although he did not introduce new forms, he enriched the prevailing German style with a robust contrapuntal technique, an unrivalled control of harmonic and motivic organisation, and the adaptation of rhythms, forms and textures from abroad, particularly from Italy and France. The Suite No. 5 in G Minor (BWV 995) was transcribed by composer Johann Sebastian Bach between the spring of 1727 and the winter of 1731 from his own Cello Suite No. 5 (BWV 1011). It is in six movements. This Suite is the only suite for which a Bach autograph still exists. It is an ornamented version for lute that gives us a rare glimpse of performance possibilities of this complex piece.
