Added by magataganm, 09 Dec 2022 Vicent Rodríguez Monllor (1690 – 1760) was a Valencian composer and musician, successor in 1715 of Joan Baptista Cabanilles as principal organist of the Cathedral of Valencia. His best-known work is the "Libro de Tocatas par, Címbalo", manuscript dated 1740 with 30 sonatas for harpsichord. For organ, he has several Tocatas and verse selections for the Pange Lingua and there is a Mass in the Archives of the Patriarch (no. 5,045 of the catalog) and 4 works in the See of Valencia: 2 Masses no. 1,104 and 1,105; Laudate Pueri, 1.106, and Laudate Dominum, 1.107. Missa à 5 is a setting of the mass for solo soprano and SATB chorus. Note that the pitch standard for Cathedral's music was about 392 Hz for A above middle C, a whole tone lower than modern practice where A is usually 440 Hz. Although originally composed for Choir (S-SATB), I created this arrangement of "Missa à 5" for Wind Sextet (Flute, Oboe, English Horn, French Horn, Bass Clarinet & Bassoon). |
