Added by magataganm, 16 Apr 2020 Paul Lütkemann [also Paul Luetkeman or Paulus Lutkemannus] (c.1555 - c.1611) was a German composer and musician. He was a student at the University of Frankfurt an der Oder in 1578. In 1587 he was a Stadtpfeifer at Wismar and in 1588 became chief Stadtpfeifer at Stettin, where he also supervised the music at St Jakob and St Nikolai. In 1604 Duke Bogislav XIII granted special privileges to one of his colleagues, and it was probably this that caused him to move two years later to Frankfurt an der Oder as a Stadtpfeifer (1606–11). It comprises 28 settings of sacred texts for five to eight voices and 32 five- and six-part instrumental pieces. The catalog raisonné comprises 21 titles, and at least 16 books have been preserved. Essentially, these are occasional works. Lütkemann's main work, the Stettiner Druck from 1597, has been preserved in the Herzog August Library in Wolfenbüttel , with the exception of two voice books (for the 7th and 8th voice) . This print comprises 28 motets and 32 instrumental movements (fantasies, Paduans, gallillons). The motets vary between the foothills of the Wittenberg schoolwith her style of choral processing based on Thomas Stoltzer and modern double choir. The instrumental movements are among the earliest printed ensemble movements. The abundance of material allows comparison and general conclusions to be made about the key handling and notation of vocal and instrumental music of that time. Although originally written for Recorders, I created this Arrangement of Fantasia: "Innsbruck, ich muß dich lassen" ("Innsbruck, I Must Leave You") for Woodwind Quintet (Flute, Oboe, English Horn, French Horn & Bassoon). |
