Added by gorden-gibson, 30 Jul 2017 This song appears in Burns' cantata "The Jolly Beggars". The words were originally written to the old air "O Gin Ye Were Dead Gudeman", which probably suggested the more modern air of "The White Cockade", the two tunes being similar. The tune "The White Cockade" is now used for this song. This modern air is also found in Aird's collection, 1784, under the name "The Ranting Highlandman".
