Copland’s Piano Sonata is one of his finest works if not the most famous or popular. The concentration of expression and variety of atmosphere and mood stand out amongst his creations and in typical Copland fashion he manages to strike the balance between dry wit and seriousness. This sprightly free and expressive piece apart from the final movement which is like a clock winding down set for Solo Piano that is sure to entertain and please.
