The Ballad for One's Soul was composed for the Capital University trombone choir in the spring of 2001. The work was premiered in the fall of 2001 by the group in Columbus, Ohio. Built on a simple harmonic progression, the Ballad for One's Soul is orchestrated so that the trombone ensemble can play with the warmest and richest tone quality.
