Gustav Schreck (1849-1918) was a German music teacher, composer, and choirmaster of St. Thomas School in Leipzig from 1893 to 1918. His Bassoon Sonata, Op.9, is one of his more well-known works, performed frequently on bassoon and also occasionally transcribed for other instruments. This arrangement for bass clarinet, which maintains the key and range of the original work, makes this very effective performance piece available to the serious student of the bass clarinet. It makes an excellent addition to the repertoire, as a strong choice for contest, audition or recital for the advanced high school or college bass clarinetist.
