Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1133711 By Various. By Anonymous, Giorgio Mainerio, Michael Praetorius, Pierre Attaignant, Pierre Certon, Pierre Phalese, and Tielman Susato. Arranged by Alastair Lodge. Early Music,Folk,Historic,Medieval,Renaissance. 50 pages. Wold Meridian #733808. Published by Wold Meridian (A0.1133711). This is a companion to my earlier volume Chording to the Dance Masters which presented 44 of my favourite Renaissance Dance band tunes and arranged them as a single melody line with chords derived from the original harmony lines. In this volume I have reunited 22 of the pieces with the lower parts in the score, so that with more collaborators, the fullness of the original arrangement can be heard. The chords are still present, so if the ensemble is short handed, and lines are missing, the arrangements will still work. What is more, by contrasting the melody and chords with the full scoring, it should be possible to work some light and shade into performances. You can hear all the pieces and their chords on YouTube together with contemporary art and historical background material:https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYRWH2nycMkMoIoEYEMVPa_EXY6NVDpNSAs a help to those less confident in playing harmony lines, I have provided links to playlists of videos online for each part of each piece. You will hear the selected line on its own with chords and percussion, with the melody line added on repeats. The final repeat includes the other harmony lines, but the featured line is slightly louder in the mix. The performance starts with a percussion beat introduction to set the tempo.Who were the Publishers and the Dance Masters? What did they do? Sometime around the 1500s, the popularity of dance music exploded in Europe. Dance Masters were collecting chansons and dance tunes from courts and rural parts and were teaching these to new audiences, spreading their arrangements and reflecting the performance styles of the areas from which they had collected the tunes. Publishers were able to take these tunes that were becoming known across the regions and nations and spread them even more widely, thanks to technological innovations in music printing which made it quicker and therefore cheaper to produce collections of these dances in four or more parts. These publishers were often highly accomplished composers in their own right, who were both able to provide distinctive harmony lines and compose new tunes in the style of their sources, feeding the courts with enduring tunes. Composers and printers of this time would often use note values that are double the length of those we would be used to seeing today, and so to make this version more readable, breves have become semibreves or whole notes, semibreves have become minims or half notes and so on. Working with this publication For those just starting out in Early Music, the volume is an ideal introduction, since the ensemble can build from a soloist with accompaniment with the chords alone, and parts can be added in as additional musicians become available. Instrumentation for these pieces was not specified in the original prints. The range of each part is quite limited, and though the harmonies may seem strange at times, key signatures are kind to the less experienced musician. If enthusiasm takes hold, then reproductions of early music instruments are sold by some very talented makers, as well as coming up on auction sites. Otherwise, it is possible to put together a fairly convincing ensemble with recorders, violins, a cello and mandolins, bouzoukis, flutes or guitars and gradually introduce the authentic instruments as they become available.

Arranged by Davi Rocha Campos. Broadway,Chamber,Film/TV,Instructional,Jazz,Musical/Show. 10 pages. Davi Rocha Campos #704858. Published by Davi Rocha Campos (A0.1101492). All the Things You Are for voice, Bb clarinet, A clarinet, guitar, accordion. Words & music by Oscar Hammerstein li and Jerome Kern. Como ler os acidentes na Partitura How to read accidents in sheet music Lesson 9 Signs of change. This class is about sharp #, flat b and bequadro (I can't do this sign by keyboard. That's why it's important to watch this class that will be on the card in the upper right corner). There are still the signs of double sharp x or ## and double flat bb. Don't be folded bequadro. I ask permission to use pleonasm Sharp # function: raises the pitch of the note by a semitone up. Makes the note a semitone higher. B-flat function: lower the pitch of the note by a semitone down. Makes the note a semitone lower. Double sharp x or ## function: raise the pitch of the note by one step. Makes the note a higher pitch. Double-flat bb function: lower the pitch of the note by one tone. Makes the pitch of the note a lower pitch. Bequadro function (I can't make this signal by keyboard. That's why it's important to watch this class that will be on the cards in the upper right corner). Nullify both the sharp (whether it's doubled or not) and the flat function (whether it's doubled or not). The bequadro still cancels the accidents of the key signature. Lesson 10 Bars and bar numbers It is a vertical line placed on the pentagram. It serves to organize the writing of the score in a Cartesian way. When the amount of beats exceeds the measure, it is necessary to place the vertical line and continue in another measure. This is one of the reasons to know the bar count. Another reason is when a large group is going to rehearse a song and it is often necessary to stop the rehearsal in order to make necessary adjustments. In this case, to optimize the rehearsal, the music is not restarted from measure 1, but from a few measures before the adjustments made, whether by the group, conductors, etc. The barline cancels out the accidentals that occur. For example, if an F# note appears in the middle of a piece of music, when that F moves to the next measure, it will no longer be sharp. The barline also cancels the bequadro in this situation, that is, if by chance the music is not set to a key other than C major or A minor, when the bequadro appears precisely on the keynote note, in the next bar if it is not spelled again, the key signature accident takes effect.

Brightest and Best
Instrumental Duet Instrumental Duet,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.966751

Instrumental Duet Instrumental Duet,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.966751 Composed by STAR IN THE EAST (from The Southern Harmony). Arranged by Dillon Ekle. 20th Century,Christian,Christmas,Sacred. Score and parts. 9 pages. Dillon Ekle #3068529. Published by Dillon Ekle (A0.966751). Brightest and Best is an original piece based on the hymn tune STAR IN THE EAST (from The Southern Harmony), most commonly used with the text Brightest and Best of the Sons of the Morning. As such, the arrangement is well suited to use in the Christmas and Epiphany seasons. However, the tune's general appeal make it a great addition to worship in any season, as well as use in concert or recital settings. In addition to the main hymn melody, this piece is woven through with original counter melodies and rich harmonies. Through much of the piece, flowing, running 8th notes and rhythmic bass lines maintain motion beneath the soaring melody. The second verse slows down with a quarter note motif reminiscent of change-ringing bells, keeping an open and ethereal sound with building anticipation before the interlude melodies return in full force for the conclusion. Most of these features and ideas appear in both the secondo and primo parts in this 1-piano, 4-hands piece. Both parts are of similar difficulty, and because the melodies are found anywhere from the middle voices to the top voices, care is needed to keep the ensemble balanced at all times for a musical performance.A preview performance can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnIo4rnHizUThe PDF file is formatted to be printed double-sided. Once printed and bound, odd numbered pages (including the cover page) should be on the right (where the primo player sits), and even numbered pages should be on the left (where the secondo player sits). Alternatively, if two pianos are being used, the file can be printed single-sided and the parts separated out; the primo player will have the odd numbered pages, and the secondo player will have the even numbered pages.

Fair Katrinelje and Pif-Paf-Poltrie (from the Brothers Grimm Song Cycle)

Small Ensemble Cello,Flute,High Voice,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.800331 Composed by Sarah Wallin Huff. Contemporary. Score and parts. 43 pages. Novel Soundtrax #11219. Published by Novel Soundtrax (A0.800331). This work by Sarah Wallin is a vocal text setting for soprano, flute, cello, and piano, completed in 2008. According to Dr. Edward David Zeliff, Fair Katrinelje... is very interesting, clever, witty, and captures the quirky little scenario of this poor fellow trying so hard to line up a bride by having to go through the firewall of her entire family and then having enough umph left over to get her attention as well. It's very Stravinskyish, and the charm and humor comes through. The story of Fair Katrinelje and Pif-Paf-Poltrie is a lesser-known fairy tale found in the Children's and Household Tales of Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, the famous Brothers Grimm. Fair Katrinelje and Pif-Paf-Poltrie is a comedic dialogue. Our hero, Pif-Paf-Poltrie, is out to seek the hand of his beloved, the Fair Katrinelje, in marriage. Being the gentleman that he is, he approaches in turn each member of his beloved's family to ask their permission. Father Hollenthe, Mother Malcho, Brother High-and-Mighty, and Sister Käsetraut all respond in turn similarly – essentially, If it's all right with everyone else, it's all right with me. The challenge for the vocalist is to convey the essence and the hilarity of the dialogue by highlighting, with the mannerisms of the voice, the attitudes and characteristics of each character speaking. Above each character's lines, it is made clear whom it is that is speaking and the emotional context within which it is being spoken. The vocalist has complete freedom to effect these roles in whatever manner and to whatever degree is deemed appropriate, provided the musical integrity of the work is kept intact.

Thérèse Brenet : Boustrophédon for flute, clarinet, violin, violoncello and piano
Small Ensemble Cello,Clarinet,Flute,Piano,Violin - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.5…

Small Ensemble Cello,Clarinet,Flute,Piano,Violin - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.532825 Composed by Therese Brenet. Contemporary,Standards. Score and parts. 67 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #44847. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.532825). The word Boustrophédon is a 16th century expression which refers to an archaic type of writing in which, after having written a line from left to right, one continues the next line from right to left and then alternates directions. This is the way the oldest known latin inscriptions are written, as well as in the traditional writing of the Touaregs The etymology comes from the Greek “bous†or ox and the verbal form “trophéin†or the verb “to turnâ€. These two elements give the image that this writing is traced in the same way that the ox pulled the plow in the fields In the sub-title, there is an evocation of Rimbaud‘s famous “Vowel“ sonnet : : Oh, sublime trumpet full of strange piercing sounds The author wanted to suggest both musically and technically the manner of this style of writing in boustrophedon. The work begins thus with a sonorous strange sonorous background which suggests this type of writing. This strange atmosphere is created by glissandi on the piano strings as well as on the strings of the violin and the violoncello. These alternating movements create “strange piercing sounds†against which the flute and clarinet alternately play brief sequences which create the outline of a melody. Then the atmosphere changes : the violin, the cello and the piano come together in a percussive violent outburst, which creates a tragic, passionate feeling which may also be considered “strange piercing soundsâ€. Several long aleatoric phrases are then presented like a sonorous halo which intensify to bring the lister to an intense Chorale-like phrase which serves as the central pillar of the work. This phrase is repeated several times, each time gaining in intensity to bring the work to its summit. At the conclusion, the theme is presented again with a great violence, this time without the boustropedon but perhaps with “strange piercing soundsâ€. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SdwCOr-wzA.

Instrumental Duet Guitar,Instrumental Duet,Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.596568 Composed by Juan MarÃa Solare. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 9 pages. Juan Maria Solare #4717703. Published by Juan Maria Solare (A0.596568). Has the Rain a Father? This piece exists in two versions: Piano solo Guitar solo (without or with electronic sounds) The piano version has no huge secrets (to clarify: the pedal is used da capo al fine without interruption). The guitar version is written in three keys: E, G and A (Dorian). The performer may choose one or another score at their convenience. The guitar version can also use effects of all kinds, or amplifiers that are not always used in classical music. At the end of 2019 an album will be released on Spotify and other online music platforms with both versions of the piece (solo piano and acoustic guitar with electronic sounds). As an example of the amplitude that the composer expects from the performers: in this record production, the guitar signal is split in two parts, panned to the right and left, and different types of effects are applied to each channel (chorus, delay, reverb of different kinds and with different parameters). The original guitar signal is also in the center. Of course, there are also the electronic sounds themselves. A preliminary version can be heard here: https://juanmariasolare.bandcamp.com/album/has-the-rain-a-father Has the Rain a Father? is a quote from the bible, specifically from the book of Job 38:28. It is part of a series of rhetorical questions that tend to convince Job of his ignorance. Has the Rain a Father? was composed in Bremen (Germany) on March 17, 2019 (plus details to the piano part on March 27). Its duration is about 4:30. I asked some people about the wording of the title. Among the meaningful answers: Which wording is better, Has the rain a Father? or Does the Rain have a father? (Bible, Job, 38:28). It will be used as the title of a music piece for piano. Has the Rain a Father? is slightly unusual, and thus is attention-grabbing, something you want in a title. It sounds more biblical, calling attention to the allusion. In ordinary speech the Does the . . . version is more common, but for a title you don’t necessarily want common. (Johnny Wilson, former Writer and Magazine Editor (1973-1999))

Large Ensemble,Strings Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.739501 Composed by David Catherwood. Broadway,Children,Musical/Show. Score. 323 pages. Opus 3 Music #6051989. Published by Opus 3 Music (A0.739501). A great story about one of the 20th century’s greatest storytellers. Carefully researched, yet full of fun, this entertaining musical tells the story of the early part of CS Lewis' life from the time of his mother's death in 1908 until his arrival as a student at Oxford in 1916. (Throughout his life CS Lewis was always known as Jack) This new work was premiered at the end of 2019 at the annual CS Lewis Festival held in Ireland. (CS Lewis’ birthplace) It proved to be a great success and was very enthusiastically received. Synopsis Jack’s Journey is a whimsical re-imagining of the childhood journeys of CS Lewis - each of the seven songs representing a stop along the way to his eventual career as the writer of the Narnia Chronicles. The story is told through music relating his memories and significant episodes from his schooldays up to his entry into Oxford. Living almost entirely in his imagination as a small boy, the seeds of the world of Narnia are already beginning to grow in his writing and drawings. Little Lea, his childhood home, provides the setting for the early scenes. Following the death of his mother the young Jack has his first experience of school and England. He endures with fortitude the harsh regime of boarding school and begins to recognise the value of friendship, mutual support and the courage that children can show in adversity. He returns to Ireland and to Campbell College – a much more positive experience. Illness brings his attendance at Campbell to an end. Returning to Little Lea, Jack imagines the world of fairies and dwarves, a world beyond our own. He returns to school in England and comes under the influence of a variety of teachers. Expelled from Malvern, Jack next falls under the influence of his great mentor, Professor Kirkpatrick – the model for the Professor of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Jack’s Journey concludes with the anticipated arrival of a great hero, the hero of the first of the Narnian Chronicles, Aslan, the lion. ‘Jack’s Journey’ gives opportunity for young actors, (supported if desired by adults, taking the parts of the grown-ups.) There are short dramatic scenes, plenty of chorus work, opportunity for choreography and many solo spots for vocalists in the songs which are milestones in the story. List of Songs (the sample pages and mp3 file gives a chance to see and hear the first page of most of the songs) 1 Soft through the window 2 Kingdom of Mourne 3 Little Lea 4 Campbell Days - Boy to the left, Boy to the right 5 The Dandy's song 6 The Scholar's song 7 Strength and honour As will be evident from the above, there is plenty of flexibility regarding the scale of the performance. ‘Jack’s Journey’ may be staged using relatively modest outlay – for example, the premiere did not have a set because the venue for the performance was an actual railway station! The piece certainly allows for imaginative approaches to design and staging. In terms of the additional challenges presented by 2020 the length of the musical at 40 minutes helps in delivering a shorter theatrical experience. Also, the fully digital download of all performing materials allows for distribution via email Indeed the whole show could be effectively recorded and presented online as well as in person.

THEY’LL BE ON THE ROCK THIS CHRISTMAS words and music by David Kai ©1997 They’ll come from far as Whitehorse and as close as Sydney Mines, They’re packing up their suitcases and their boxes tied with twine, They’re getting on those airplanes, Dash 8s and DC 9s, Driving to the ferry docks and they’re waiting there in line. And they'll be on the Rock this Christmas, where stars shine twice as bright, They'll be on the Rock this Christmas, greeting mummers every night, Yarning ‘round the wood stove, eating partridgeberry pie, And I’ll be wondering “Why, oh why aren’t I?†‘Cause I’ll be in the factory, pulling double overtime, No one wants the Christmas shift so I guess that makes it mine, Late tonight I’ll light a candle in my lonely room, And think of those who are traveling home, ‘cause I know that very soon, That they'll be on the Rock this Christmas, where stars shine twice as bright, Yeah, they'll be on the Rock this Christmas, greeting mummers every night, Yarning ‘round the wood stove eating partridgeberry pie, And I’ll be wondering “Why, oh why aren’t I?†I’ve got to get there somehow, this poor soul’s just too homesick, My busted car won’t take me far, but my thumb will do the trick. I’ll call the boss from Port aux Basques, hope he’s in the mood to see, ‘Though I may choose to leave the Rock, it’s the Rock that won’t leave me. And I'll be on the Rock this Christmas, where stars shine twice as bright, Yeah, I'll be on the Rock this Christmas, greeting mummers every night, Yarning ‘round the wood stove, eating partridgeberry pie, And no more wondering “Why, oh why aren’t I?†Optional extra chorus: And we'll be on the Rock this Christmas, where stars shine twice as bright, Yeah, we'll be on the Rock this Christmas, greeting mummers every night, Yarning ‘round the wood stove, eating partridgeberry pie, And no more wondering “Why, oh why aren’t I?†Tag: No, no more wondering “Why, oh why aren’t I?â€.

Score and parts. 15 pages. Nolwazi Nkwanyana #6884175. Published by Nolwazi Nkwanyana (A0.1029742). For Flute, Bb Clarinet and PianoDuration: 4.5 minutesThe relationship between the sun and the moon is a rather fascinating one. One could imagine that the sun, as bright and glorious as it is, shares its light to help the moon come to life at night. A bright full moon is such a splendid and ethereal sight -but it would not be so without the sun. During the darkest nights, the moon and sun work together to provide the night sky with a timeless illumination. You will find that all three instruments have their beautiful individual moments. However, the most brilliant and splendid sections in the piece are a result of their timbres combined and the way their melodic lines intertwine. The piano part is crucial for setting the mood of each section and should be treated with ultimate delicacy and importance. There is no main instrument in this piece. The flute and clarinet come together bringing additional light and life to the majestic landscape that is provided by the piano.

Small Ensemble Alto Voice,Flute,Medium-Low Voice,Mezzo-Soprano Voice,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1096699 Composed by Mykola Leontovych. Arranged by Connie Boss. Christmas,Holiday. Score and parts. 12 pages. Connie Boss #700690. Published by Connie Boss (A0.1096699). This arrangement contains all new lyrics as the original lyrics have copyright on them. The melody does not, so we get to keep the same melody, while I have added an intro and have parts for SSAA flute and piano that differ some from the original. Verse 1 of the lyrics are about the birth of Jesus. Verse 2 of the lyrics reflects caroling as it contain titles and lines from other public domain songs. I think you will enjoy these new lyrics almost as much as the original, especially if wanting to be more about His birth. Piano Quartet,String Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.905620 Composed by David Perkins. Concert,Contemporary,Wedding. Score and parts. 31 pages. David Perkins #4631781. Published by David Perkins (A0.905620). The Sandy Path That Leads Me Down is an arrangement for Piano Quartet - Piano, Violin, Viola and Cello. Originally a setting of a poem by John Betjemen, this piece re-arranged for Piano Quartet, has become a wordless song in its own right. The somewhat cryptic title is a line taken from the original poem. This and seven other pieces (yet to be arranged) will eventually form a suite of pieces entitled As Wordless as the Windy Sky. Together they will create a broadly biographical sequence from the boundless imagination of childhood, through holidays, religion, love, the pleasures of the middle years to the inevitability of old age.

Guitar - Beginning-Intermediate - Digital Download SKU: M0.22115MEB Composed by Pat Kelley. Style. Rock and blues, method. E-book and online audio. Mel Bay Publications - Digital Sheet Music #22115MEB. Published by Mel Bay Publications - Digital Sheet Music (M0.22115MEB). ISBN 9781619116276. 8.75x11.75 inches.Arpeggios are chord notes played one at a time rather than strummed or plucked all together. They are an essential part of great improvising and melody writing because playing chord notes in the right places creates solid melody lines. Chord notes sound more resolved than notes that are chromatic (out of the key). Practicing arpeggios will improve your ability to learn melodies, make reading music easier, and develop your tone and picking accuracy. The first part of this book focuses on the basic fingerings of the following six arpeggios: major 7th, major 7th (#5), dominant 7th, minor 7th, minor 7th (b5), and diminished 7th. This book along with its accompanying audio represents a comprehensive guide to all things arpeggio. It delves into traditional applications of arpeggios, as well as how they relate to slash chords, modal music and more. The student will learn about how arpeggios fall over standard chord progressions, as well as how to embellish arpeggios to make them more musical in performance situations. In standard notation and tab. Includes access to online audio.

Aaron Hettinga #716751. Published by Aaron Hettinga (A0.1114907). While the title may seem unfamiliar, your audience will light up upon reaching the TRIO when they realize that you’re playing the yodeling theme music from The Price Is Right’s “Cliff Hangers†game! This traditional swiss tune is presented here in an arrangement for the instrumentation of Alford’s “Hungry Five†series of Polka band books. Each of the 5 parts receives a moment or two to shine, either to take a run at the melody, counter lines, or other figures of interest. The tuba part is mostly in its straightforward support roles, but there are some small technical challenges throughout the rest of the ensemble that will reward advancing players as well as audiences for your German band. As a performance option, you may want to consider doing a complete D.C. al Fine to extend the performance time if a single pass doesn’t seem enough. Ready to go for your Oktoberfest gig!

Published by Derek Hasted (A0.797767). SLEEP SHORES (theme to Owen MD) - 4 GUITARS/LARGE ENSEMBLEFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes Johnny Pearson was a prolific composer and ran the BBC Top Of The Pops orchestra for 16 years. My arrangement captures every one of the stunning and uplifting key changes of the orchestral version. The key chosen here is different to the original, but it means we can use the full playable range of the guitar and play in some keys that are less alien to guitarists! The original version was scored for piano and orchestra but also featured a guitar to provide a rhythmic backdrop, and that part is captured here too, along with the electric bass guitar line, set for classical or acoustic guitar. From the perspective of a guitar teacher, this piece is a wonderful worked example of the Circle of Fifths in action, and the final key change uses the A#(Bb) and E that are common to the chords of F#7 and C7 to create an effortless movement right across the Circle of Fifths from bottom to top in one easy action! From the perspective of the players, the arpeggios are moveable chords and so the section with the most key changes is also the section that’s easiest to play! And from the perspective of the audience, the key changes make this a remarkable and engaging piece.I hope you enjoy this piece!

Violin trio - Grade 3 - Digital Download SKU: DX.CEV301 Composed by C. Austin Miles. Arranged by Christiane Emory. Easter. Sacred instrumental music. Score and parts. 14 pages. David E. Smith - Digital Sheet Music #CEV301. Published by David E. Smith - Digital Sheet Music (DX.CEV301). SMS: A violin trio and piano. The opening has the strings using a modified melody in a chordal structure. It continues in much the same light with the piano embellishing with lines of elegance. The second section features the melody in the left hand of the with chordal structure in the right, all the while the strings adding a shimmering effect with tremolos. Then the quartet continues with full ensemble sound giving way to an unaccompanied trio of the upper three parts. The piece continues on in much the same flavor as the beginning coming to a sweet conclusion.
