This selection, Hodie Christus Natus Est (Today Christ is Born), was originally a vocal motet written by Jan P. Sweelinck and has been arranged for two Brass Quintets, each consisting of 2 Trumpets, 1 French Horn, 1 Trombone (or Euphonium), and 1 Tuba, by Regis Bookshar. I envision this arrangement to be performed antiphonally. It is perfect for Christmas concerts and church services but could also be performed for other festive occasions as well and is suitable for high school or college students. Included is a score and a complete set of parts (44 pages). Also available are other settings of this motet for a variety of instrumental ensembles as well as numerous other arrangements in a variety of styles. The Boar's Head CarolThis Christmas carol talks about a feast during midwinter in which a wild boar was served as the main dish and its head placed in a situated position to symbolize bravery and abundance. Closely related to the Norse tradition of boar sacrifice to their goddess Freyja during the feast of Winter Solstice, this song originated from an urban legend in Queen's College, Oxford back in the 15th century which tells of how a scholar from Queen’s College managed to kill an attacking boar and offered it at dinner.The song was first published in English during the 1520’s in a book entitled Christmase Carolles Newly Emprynted at London in the flete street, which was written by Jan van Wynken de Worde. Song of the Jet, translated literally as Airplane Samba) is a Brazilian song composed in 1962 by Antônio Carlos Jobim, who also wrote the original Portuguese lyrics. The English-language lyrics are by Gene Lees.In the biography Antonio Carlos Jobim: An Illuminated Man, Helena Jobim describes how her brother came up with the idea for the song: Tom's many walks from Ipanema to Santos Dumont Airport yielded that ode of beauty... He would head towards the airport, following the water's edge around Guanabara's Bay. The pretext to go there was to buy foreign magazines and newspapers. From Santos Dumont Airport he could observe his passion, the airplane. Yet he still kept some distance from those machines. He was afraid of flying, but he loved their power, splendor, and aerodynamics-man's conquest over machine.In the song, Jobim writes about landing at Galeão in Rio de Janeiro. The airport was renamed in his honor in 1999 and is now called Rio de Janeiro–Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport.Jobim wrote Samba do Avião for an Italian film, Copacabana Palace (1962), where it was performed by Jula De Palma and I 4 + 4 di Nora Orlandi. The movie was filmed in Rio and features cameo appearances by Jobim, João Gilberto and Os Cariocas.The first performance of the song was by Jobim and Os Cariocas in August 1962 at the Au Bon Gourmet restaurant in Copacabana, Rio, at what music historian Ruy Castro calls the bossa nova show to end all bossa nova shows, as it featured Jobim, João Gilberto, VinÃcius de Moraes and Os Cariocas on stage together for the only time.The first recording of the song was released in October 1962 by Elza Laranjeira. The Gloucestershire Wassail is one of many traditional wassails (festive songs, carols) associated with the centuries-old tradition of wassailing. In the West of England from where this particular song comes, groups of people would go door to door, singing and offering a drink of mulled cider (wassail) from a large, decorated bowl (the wassail bowl) in exchange for other drinks, food, and gifts. The custom of sharing the wassail bowl is supposedly of Saxon origin, a drinking ritual dating to the Middle Ages and derived from one of the observances of the Feast of Yule. Today it is associated with Christmas-tide, the twelve days from December 25 through January 5. Voices of Spring (Voci di Primavera) op. 410, è un valzer di Johann Strauss (figlio).Nell'inverno del 1882-83 il compositore fu invitato a comporre un valzer vocale per il celebre soprano austriaco Bianca Bianchi (il cui vero nome era Bertha Schwarz), al tempo un acclamato membro del Wiener Hopfoperntheater (Teatro dell'opera reale di Vienna).Il valzer fu eseguito per la prima volta al Theater an der Wien il 1º marzo 1883 ad un concerto di beneficenza per la fondazione degli indigenti dell'Impero austro-ungarico fondata dall'imperatore Francesco Giuseppe e dall'imperatrice Elisabetta.Strauss, dopo il successo che aveva ottenuto con i suoi valzer corali, fu felice di scrivere un brano per sola voce e il librettista Richard Genée, che aveva già collaborato con il compositore nell'operetta Eine Nacht in Venedig (Una notte a Venezia) del 1883, scrisse anche il testo per il nuovo valzer.L'autunno del 1882 vide Strauss impegnato a Budapest per curare la prima rappresentazione dell'operetta Der lustige Krieg (L'allegra Guerra; 1881). Durante lo svolgimento di una delle serate in onore della visita del musicista viennese, fu Strauss stesso ad esibirsi al pianoforte con un altro degli illustri ospiti della serata: Franz Liszt. I due compositori si conoscevano già molto bene da almeno 30 anni (Strauss aveva dedicato il suo valzer Abschieds-Rufe op. 179 a Liszt nel gennaio del 1856) e si incontrarono in numerose altre occasioni. Fu questa visita che fornì l'ispirazione per la scrittura del valzer Frühlingsstimmen.Successivamente il valzer venne arrangiato da Johann in versione solamente orchestrale e fu eseguito in questa forma, oggi celeberrima, da Eduard Strauss durante uno dei suoi concerti al Musikverein nel 1883.Nel 1934 il valzer fu riutilizzato per l'operetta postuma (con musiche di Strauss jr.) Die Tänzerin Fanny Elßler.Durante il Concerto di Capodanno del 1987, Herbert von Karajan, inserì nel programma il valzer Frühlingsstimmen eseguendolo nella versione vocale originale con il soprano Kathleen Battle.

Pérez Prado's recording of the song as an instrumental with his orchestra featuring trumpeter Billy Regis, whose trumpet sound would slide down and up before the melody would resume, was the most popular version in 1955, reaching number one for 10 weeks on the Billboard chart. It became a gold record. Pérez had first recorded this title for the movie Underwater! (1955), where Jane Russell can be seen dancing to the song.
