Derek Hasted writes "This fantastic theme was written as an integral part of the film of the same name.

Ennio Morricone and his son Andrea rightly received a BAFTA award for the gorgeous soundtrack music.

My arrangement captures the four ?verses? that feature in this piece - each verse maintains the same thematic material but the accompaniment becomes more involved and with a thicker texture, before the piece fades away again. The guitar accompaniment is styled on the piano solo score, but tailored here and there to fit the guitar like a glove.

The key here isn?t the same as the original, but it fits right into the ?sweet spot? of the flute?s pitch range and allows for a guitar accompaniment that can use open strings to improve the sustain. Unlike other arrangements, this has plenty of space and few finger gymnastics, so the gentle movement of the original is easy to reproduce.

I also have an arrangement for two guitars which moves the melody between the guitars as the piece progresses.

Derek Hasted writes "Beethoven it isn?t, but a it?s fun novelty item to play in a school concert or even an informal adult concert.

This arrangement is based on one I wrote for my Guitar Workshop (see www.guitar-workshop.org.uk), and converted to a version for flute and guitar.

The original TV Theme is embarrassingly short, and so my arrangement repeats the entire middle section of the piece to present a performance item that's just long enough to surprise and delight the audience.

The accented notes in the introduction are those played by a rasping trombone in the original. I?ll be honest - neither the flute nor the guitar does a really convincing trombone impersonation, so if those notes don?t work for you, just skip over them!
