Solo Guitar - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.985325 Composed by Jeremiah Lawson. Contemporary. Individual part. 9 pages. Jeremiah Lawson #6012233. Published by Jeremiah Lawson (A0.985325). Guitar Sonata No. 5 in G major is open G tuning. It is in three movements and performance time is abut 10 to 10:15. Movements 1 and 3 are to be played using a glass or bronze slide worn on the fourth finger. The movements are:1. Hobo Spider Blues2. Ragged) and Sor(e) (after Sor's Op. 29, 10)3. Ricardo de YakimaThe first movement is a set of bottleneck technique variations on an original blues theme. Each variation explores different timbrel possibilities such as ordinary tone, pizzicato, sul tasto, and ponticello before recapitulating the original form of the blues theme. The second movement reconceives Sor's study in E flat from his Op. 29 as a ragtime sonata form, with a developmental intrusion from another Sor etude. This ragtime sonata leads attaca into the final movement. The third movement is another set of variations, this time on a two-step dance theme cast in the form of a menuet. It was common in early 19th century guitar sonatas to end with a menuet and so I opted to end with a menuet with variations. In sharp contrast to my first guitar sonata, which drew inspiration from late Beethoven piano sonatas and late Shostakovich string quartets, the inspirations here were Muddy Waters, Fernando Sor, Scott Joplin, Johnny Cash, and Don Helms. This sonata was also recorded by Daniel Estrem on Estrem Plays Lawson, which was released through Magnatune in 2016. .

Being a waltz it is impossible to avoid Chopin´s influence but you can also find reflects from the Impressionists like Debussy and Faure or from jazz musicians like Pat Metheny with a certain minimalist touch taken from the New Age.

Sonata No. 6 "Kharkiv", Op. 48

Guitar - Advanced - Digital Download SKU: ZZ.DZ-4244 Composed by Konstantin Bliokh.…
(+)
Guitar - Advanced - Digital Download SKU: ZZ.DZ-4244 Composed by Konstantin Bliokh. Score. 13 pages. Les Productions d'OZ - Digital #DZ 4244. Published by Les Productions d'OZ - Digital (ZZ.DZ-4244). Sonata No. 6 Kharkiv for guitar solo was composed in 2021, in the end of the COVID-19 lockdown. At that time my family and I were staying in our home city of Kharkiv (also known as Kharkov), Ukraine for almost two years. We considered that pandemic period as a disaster, but later have realized that it actually was a rather happy time, because a war came to our homeland just a few months later. Since 2022 a considerable fraction of the 1.5 millions of Kharkiv citizens have left their homes, those who stayed have been living under ceaseless missile attacks, and many have been killed. I would like to dedicate this Sonata to the frontier city of Kharkiv and, most of all, to its citizens suffering from the war.Yet, the music of the Sonata does not have any specific program. Here I will give a brief overview of its main composition elements to facilitate future interpretations. The first and fourth movements of this Sonata are based on the interplay between the twelve-tone principle and the G-major tonal center, natural for the guitar. Namely, the first movement is based on the interaction of the G-major triad Gâ??Bâ??D of the open guitar strings 2â??3â??4, ascending motif 1 involving the notes Eâ??F#â??Aâ??C# (originally on the first string), and descending motif 2 using the notes E-â??Câ??Bbâ??A- (originally, on the bass string 6). These elements supplement each other to almost make up twelve tones (apart from the missing F), and the motifs alternate with ostinato fragments where each note in the G major triad is step-by-step moved by a semitone up or down. The second movement is a Scherzo involving numerous semitones in accented chords and fast passages, as well as chromatic melodic motion in the bass voice. It is almost atonal in some fragments, but has an overall tonal center of A-minor.The third movement is a meditative Adagio based on a theme composed within hexatonic scale Dâ??Eâ??Fâ??G#â??Aâ??B and ostinato chords involving open bass strings Eâ??Aâ??D and semitone Bâ??C.Finally, the fourth movement is based on the complete twelve-tone theme consisting of two phrases including motifs 1 and 2 from the first movement: Gâ??Fâ??Bbâ??Abâ??Câ??Ebâ??D and Eâ??Bâ??C#â??Aâ??F#. This theme is presented in its prime and retrograde forms. There are dialogues between the first string, basses and open middle strings, similar to the first movement. In the culmination, the twelve-tone theme is performed using the parallel motion of the standard guitar G-major chord with open middle strings across twelve positions. The Sonata was premiered and recorded (CD Naxos No. 8.574630) by the prominent Ukrainian guitarist Marko Topchii who has also lived and studied in Kharkiv. I am extremely grateful to him for the brilliant performance of this piece.I am greatly indebted to Productions dâ??Oz for keeping my original notations in places where these do not conform to the publisherâ??s style.

Guitar - Intermediate - Digital Download SKU: ZY.DO-1522 Composed by Francis Bebey. Arranged by Ingrid Riollot. Score. 5 pages. Les Editions Doberman-Yppan (digital) #DO 1522. Published by Les Editions Doberman-Yppan (digital) (ZY.DO-1522). Son originalité continue de résonner dans le monde entier depuis son décès à la fin du mois de mai 2001.Francis Bebey was born in Douala in July 1929, into a large family where his father, a pastor, struggled to feed his children. But Francis had the opportunity to go to school. Admiring his elder brother, Marcel Eyidi Bebey, he educated himself, distinguished himself, and eventually received a scholarship to go and take his baccalaureate in France. We approached the end of the 1950s when he arrived in La Rochelle. More than ever, in this France where Africans were looked at with curiosity, condescension, or disdain, Francis relied on his intellectual resources. A diligent worker, he obtained his Baccalaureate, then moved to Paris where he started English studies at the Sorbonne. One day, he knew what truly attracted him: he wanted to do radio. Francis learned his craft in France and in the USA.After working for a few years as a reporter, he was hired in 1961 as an international civil servant in the UNESCO Information Department. In parallel, Francis had always been drawn to musical creation. His very serious daytime activity didnâ??t prevent him from frequenting jazz clubs in the evenings. In Paris, the Jazz, the trendy music of that time, but also rumba and salsa attracted him. He collected records and attended numerous concerts. With his accomplice Manu Dibango, Francis took the stage and played music.Francis liked classical music since his childhood. He grew up listening to the cantatas and oratorios of Bach or Handel that his father had sung in the temple. He became passionate about the guitar, impressed by the Spanish and South American masters, and decided to learn to strum the instrument himself. He started composing guitar pieces, blending the various influences that flow through him with the traditional African music he had carried within since childhood. His approach captivated the director of the American Cultural Center (then located in the Saint-Germain neighborhood of Paris), who offered him the opportunity to perform in front of an audience. Francis gave his first guitar recital there (1963) in front of a mesmerized audience. His first solo album was released shortly thereafter.Gradually, Francis became recognized as a musician and composer. Several albums of the African guitar ambassador, as described by the press, were released. He also wrote books, to the point that his artistic career became challenging to reconcile with his career as a civil servant. In 1974, even though he had become the General Manager in charge of music at UNESCO, he took the bold leap and resigned from this prestigious institution to dedicated himself to the three activities that interested him: music, literature, and journalism. He explored the traditional musical heritage of the African continent, notably through the thumb piano sanza, and the polyphonic music of the Central African pygmies, or singing in his native language and composing humoristic songs in French!Success followed. Francis Bebey traveled the world: from France to Brazil, Cameroon to Sweden, Germany to the Carribean, or Morocco to Japan... the list of countries where he was invited to perform, gives lectures, or meets readers is very long. In addition to public recognition, he enjoyed the recognition of his fellow musicians, such as guitarist John Williams or Venezuelan Antonio Lauro, who invited him to be a part of the jury for a classical guitar competition in Caracas. His life was the journey of an African pioneer, a man rooted in his cultural heritage and carrying a message of sharing and hope for the world. His originality continues to vibrate around the world since his passing at the end of May 2001.

Guitar - Advanced - Digital Download SKU: ZY.DO-1551 Composed by Yorgos Nousis. Score. 8 pages. Les Editions Doberman-Yppan (digital) #DO 1551. Published by Les Editions Doberman-Yppan (digital) (ZY.DO-1551). PULSO DE LA VIDA was composed as part of my dear friend Kostas Tosidis' doctoral thesis with the title Bowing technique on the guitar. The character of the piece changes from simple and meditative to rhythmic and tension-filled, reflecting different stages of our lives.Using a C, G, D tuning for the bass strings, the guitar utilizes resonance to create sustained, cello-sounding melodies on the fourth string, complemented by harmonies on the fifth and sixth strings. The bowing technique is introduced with a continuous tremolo accompanied by an extended form of the first theme. The more dancelike and rhythmical part of the piece uses a 19/16 measure that allows us to experience a sense of disparity. Finally, the simplicity combined with a sense of completeness, but also of abandonment of the beautiful gift of life, leaves us in a state of stillness for any kind of introspection.PULSO DE LA VIDA a été composé dans le cadre de la recherche doctorale de mon cher ami Kostas Tosidis, sous le titre Bowing technique on the guitar (technique d'archet à la guitare).Le caractère de la pièce passe de simple et méditatif à rythmique et plein de tension, reflétant les différentes étapes de notre vie.

Guitar - Digital Download SKU: ZZ.DZ-4280 Composed by Francis Kleynjans. Score. 12 pages. Les Productions d'OZ - Digital #DZ 4280. Published by Les Productions d'OZ - Digital (ZZ.DZ-4280). Francis KleynjansIt’s a beautiful journey through the tones that I offer you with these two pieces. The first The Stations of the Cross express the 14 scenes of the Passion of Christ through a simple arpeggio and 14 different tones. The 12 minor keys which begin the work in a perfectly natural way (D, A, E, B, F#, C#, G#, D#, Bb, F, C, G) are followed by two major keys (D and the) who come conclude the work as a triumphant deliverance. The second piece Labyrinthe uses the same principle, but in a different way. With another arpeggio and major and minor tones which follow one another alternating in a natural way through a slight mutation, leading us astray in the meanders of the tones, to finally find ourselves in the original tone, we thus delivering from this great labyrinth (do, lam, re, sim, mi, do#m, fa#, re#m, ab, fam and do).I hope that the discoverers of these pieces will have the same pleasure that I had in composing them for them.Francis Kleynjans.

Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1449751 Composed by Joaquín Malats (1872 - 1912). Arranged by Pedro Jesús Gómez (arranger) & Juan Velázquez (editor). 19th Century,Romantic Period. Individual part. 12 pages. Pedro Jesús Gómez Lorente #1029511. Published by Pedro Jesús Gómez Lorente (A0.1449751). Joaquín Malats's Serenata Española was premiered at the Salon Érard in Barcelona on 22 September 1891,[1] and was published by Zozaya a year later. Despite what it may seem from the initial title on the cover of the Suite Impresiones de España, this work was never performed as a suite for orchestra. Originally conceived as a collection in which the Serenade was the second of the pieces, only this one was published in addition to the first one: Danza. Joaquim Malats performed these two compositions in numerous concerts as part of the Suite Impresiones de España,[2] however, he neither published them as a unitary corpus, nor did the ochestral version see the light. The suite was initially dedicated to the great writer Benito Pérez Galdós, who was also a personal friend of the composer. This edition aims to provide a new vision of the work by contrasting the first two arrangements that were made, by Tárrega and by his disciple Severino García Fortea, with the original piano source, paying special attention to include agogics, dynamics and phrasing arcs indications in the piano font and to the maintenance of the original structure of the work. Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.914745 Composed by Eric J Roth. 20th Century,Contemporary. Individual part. 6 pages. Eric J Roth #5733799. Published by Eric J Roth (A0.914745). Two pages of music.Neve (pronounced NEEV) is an ancestral name within my family, to whom this piece is dedicated. The word appears in multiple languages and has a variety of meanings. In British English, Neve has two definitions, both of which have long been out of common usage. The first definition refers to a younger male relative such as a nephew or grandson. The second refers to a spendthrift. Neve is also found in Irish as a girl’s name. In various Latin and Romance languages, it refers to snow or glaciers. Neve is one of a set of four pieces composed in late 2019 and early 2020. The publication of the entire set is forthcoming, but I am also offering Neve here as a short standalone work. Composed for guitar solo, Neve evokes a young boy’s leisurely daydream. The 3/2 time signature, marked andante, and opening G major tonality convey the sense of a lazy weekend day outside in the woods or by the water. Like many daydreams, Neve starts out simply before wandering off into different moods and ideas. A recurring transitional passage (set as a quasi hemiola) serves to modulate to new tonal areas, each of which has its own distinct character. The brief section in A Dorian is marked con moto and evokes the thoughts of excitement and adventure. This is followed by a contrapuntal section in E minor with hints of Dorian. The mood here is more subdued and perhaps even melancholy. The penultimate section in C# minor (with hints of pentatonic and Phrygian) suggests a longing for faraway exotic places before returning to G major to end the piece.

Solo Guitar - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1171119 Composed by Scott Joplin. Arranged by Brian Streckfus. 20th Century,Barbershop,Blues,Folk,Ragtime. Individual part. 2 pages. Brian Streckfus #771449. Published by Brian Streckfus (A0.1171119). 1. 2 page arrangement for guitar. I'm sorry to say this is not the full version, but a 16 page version is long winded for my purposes.2. Guitar Tab added. 3. Slurs and slides added. 4. Re-harmonized to be idiomatic for guitar, be less cliche,  and to emphasize the main melody more. 5. Some composers indications added when really necessary.  6. Left hand fingerings added.7. Chord nomenclature added.8. Overly excessive ties removed.9. Some octaves changes to better suit guitar.Tips:1. Be very careful of the difference between slurs and ties! Sometimes I don't show slurs on the tab, but this time I had to.2. The rests are real and they are suggested because they lead to a jazzier rag time sound. I feel like it goes without saying that sustain is ultimately up to the performer, which is why I removed a lot of pedantic ties; they seem to add confusion half the time. 3. The D7 is a slight key change because it has an F# in the chord. It's a secodary dominace chord, V7/V, and often a vii7b5 can replace it. In other words, the F# goes gravitates into the next chord, a G Major chord.4. G6 is really just the 3 thinnest strings of the guitar open. It's a great transition chord.5. The D# is part of the C major blues scale.6. Adding more 7th chords than originally there is almost always an interesting pursuit. Going from G to G7 can certainly aid in helping things sound more goofy.

Published by Pro Creations Music (A0.1315011). Beginning guitar courses at the middle school and high school level can be a popular addition to curricula that so often center around performing groups. Such a course, when offered as a general music course, i.e.,a course that has no prerequisite and no public performance component, can be an attractive way for students to complete an arts requirement without an extra-curricular commitment.  At the same time a class like beginning guitar may serve as the only chance a music educator has to introduce the very idea of music to students as both an art form and a language. In todayâ??s on-line world there are countless avenues for learning guitar, be it YouTube videos, dedicated apps, or TAB sites. While the sharing of user-generated transcriptions of popular songs using tablature may be quick and easy, TAB sites do not employ standard music notation (not to mention being rife with mistakes both practical and theoretical). Standard Music Reading for Beginning Guitar was developed as a sequential, practical method for learning the basics of standard music notation using acoustic guitar as a vehicle. It is not meant to replace other methods e.g., the learning of popular songs or a music theory component, but as a companion so that students can learn about music as a language while, hopefully, continuing to enjoy guitar playing for years to come.

Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.914743 Composed by Eric J Roth. 20th Century,Contemporary. Individual part. 7 pages. Eric J Roth #5296287. Published by Eric J Roth (A0.914743). This Gigue is the finale of a four-movement sonata composed in 2018. Publication of the entire sonata is forthcoming. In the interim, I am offering three movements – the Passacaglia, Sarabande and Gigue – as single standalone works. I have performed them in my own concert programs both as part of the larger sonata and on their own. I believe that they work equally well both ways. The Gigue form is a lively dance in triple meter that stems from the Irish jig. It probably originated in England and Ireland in the 16th century. In the Baroque period and beyond, composers have often used gigues as the final movement of dance suites. The Gigue offered here is a galloping romp in 6/8 time with eighth notes running throughout most of the piece. It recalls similar gigues by the lutenist Sylvius Leopold Weiss (1687-1750) and the Tarantelle by Johann Kaspar Mertz (1806-1856). (The Tarantella is a similar lively dance form in triple time). Like the Passacaglia, the Gigue uses an E harmonic minor scale with an added (structural) B flat that helps to blur the sense of strict tonality. The second section includes hints of G and B tonal areas before returning to E minor to end the piece.

It has a closed three-part form, the first in the minor key and the second being in the major key, with the third part being a restatement of the first. The origins and authorship of the piece are unknown, hence 'anonimo'. It is thought to have been originally a solo instrumental guitar work from the 19th century, and has variously been attributed to Antonio Rubira, David del Castillo, Francisco Tárrega, Fernando Sor, Daniel Fortea, Francisco Vicaria l Llobet, Antonio Cano, Vicente Gómez, and Narciso Yepes. It has been suggested that doubts about its authorship may have been encouraged by a wish to avoid paying copyright fees and the desire of publishing companies to claim the lucrative copyright.Early recordings:The earliest recording of Romance is found on a cylinder from the Viuda de Aramburo label[3][4][5][6] featuring guitarists Luis and Simon Ramírez, which was made in Madrid sometime between 1897 and 1901. The work is titled Sort-Estudio para Guitarra por S. Ramirez. The name Sort, as it occurs on the cylinder's title, probably refers to Fernando Sor, as his surname is sometimes spelled Sort or Sorts. The recording may be heard on the Doremi CD release Tarrega, His Disciples, and Their Students (DHR-7996) and online at the UCSB Cylinder Audio Archive.Possible origins:An early publication of the work, known as Estudio para Guitarra de Rovira and attributed to Spanish guitarist Antonio Rubira,[13] was published by J.A. Medina e Hijo in Argentina before 1925 (probably in 1913, when the publisher ceased activities).Guitarist and composer Isaías Sávio (Montevideo, 1900 — São Paulo, 1977) published the work in 1959 with the title Romance de Amor (Estudo em Mi) Música de Antonio Rovira (Segunda metade do século XIX) He published information which cited Antonio Rubira as the author. (See Violào e Mestres Junio, 1966 / São Paulo, Brasil.Sávio gives information that Juan Pargas, who knew Rubira, gave the Estudio de Rovira to the guitarist Juan Valles in 1876 or 1878. Sávio mentions that the work became popular in Buenos Aires and began to be published by, among others, Spaniard Pedro Maza; and that the work appeared in the method of Pedro Mascaró y Reissig, published in Montevideo in 1919, with the title Conocido por Estudio de Rovira.Publishing company Ricordi of Argentina currently publishes the piece, and attributes authorship to Antonio Rubira.

Solo Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.985324 Composed by Jeremiah Lawson. Contemporary. Individual part. 6 pages. Jeremiah Lawson #6012227. Published by Jeremiah Lawson (A0.985324). I composed my second guitar sonata in 2010. Guitar Sonata No. 2 in C major is six pages long, has two movements, and its estimated performance time is 8:30 to 9:00. The first movement, Inner Visions & Power Puffs, is a zippy sonata form opening with a 12-bar blues Theme 1. After a conventional modulating transition Theme 2 appears in the traditional key of G major. The title of the movement alludes to the Stevie Wonder album Innervisions and, of course, the Powerpuff Girls. The sonata form has a climax by way of three Bartok pizzicati on the dominant pedal to depict the girls defeating Mojo Jojo and putting him in jail. The second movement is a lullaby with variations. The lullaby is an original song I used to sing for one of my nieces to help her fall asleep. The complete sonata has been recorded by Daniel Estrem and is available on the Magnatune release Estrem Plays Lawson.http://magnatune.com/artists/albums/estrem-estremlawson/I played movement 1 at a Seattle Classic Guitar Society open mic in 2012 on a warm summer Friday night and there were kids playing and screaming in the background, which helped set the mood of the sonata rather than break it.

Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1421220 Composed by Socrates Arvanitakis. Classical,Contemporary. Individual part. 14 pages. Socrates Arvanitakis #1002611. Published by Socrates Arvanitakis (A0.1421220). This suite utilises the ancient Lydian Mode (Present day Ionian) in its lower diatonic and upper chromatic tetrachords, containing the notes:D-E-F#-GandA-Bb-C#-Dtherefore it can be termed as in Lydian Mixed Mode but not as Mixolydian mode to which it bears no relation. Â The upper chromatic tetrachord gives the music a bitter-sweet minor feeling and the time signatures are mainly based on Rebetiko Music dance rhythms. The six movements are1 Zeibekikos2 Hassapikos3 Valse4 Tsifteteli5 Kamilieriko6 Hassaposervikosand are here listed as active links to the relevant music pages, from which you can come back to this page by clicking on the title of each piece.Socrates ArvanitakisLondon 2024.
