This popular mass has been written in a style which combines elements of classical church music like the polyphonic theme opening in the the Kyrie, which is in swinging 5/4 metre with elements of Gospel singing like homophonic chord shouts and driving syncopations. A Halleluja in a driving 7/8 metre is included. The main score showing the piano accompaniment the set also includes a separate organ score with pedal system and slightly different, more organ-like figurations. Additional parts for (E-) bass, drums and keyboard (playing soft chord pads) are included. The mass also exists in versions with 4prt mixed choir and with 3prt fmale choir.

The Heart It Is a Strange Beast examines the conflict that occurs between the logic of the brain and the emotion of the heart when it comes to one's romantic endeavors. The piece is written for Three Part Choir with woodwind, bass guitar, and simple percussion accompaniment. There are a lot of complex rhythms and at times the voice parts are almost polyphonic. The piece also explores the Dorian mode which is a rather rare key for modern performances. Even though this piece is challenging it is very fun to play and has a lot of educational potential for intermediate level groups.The piece by Mark Lewis was written with Men's Ensemble in mind but its range is such that any three part ensemble could probably perform it. The music in written in treble clef for ease of reading. Clarinet is the preferred woodwind instrument but sheet music has been included for C, Bb, and Eb instruments. Bass guitar is preferred but any bass instrument would work well for the bass line and the percussion parts are also intended to be easy to play on multiple different types of percussion instruments.

The setting gives opportunities for soprano and alto solos though they can be sung tutti if more appropriate. The keyboard part is essential though there are two a cappella sections in the arrangement. The vocal parts all lie easily within average range. The keyboard part, with its plodding bass line (which may be doubled on double bass if required) gives the impression of the slow walk of Jesus to the Cross. This is a melancholy, reflective arrangement. Other SSA titles in this series of three Easter canticles are “My Song is Love Unknown†(Text by Samuel Crossman 1624-1683) and “A Time to Watch, A time to Pray (Text by John Mason Neale 1818-1866â€. A popular version of this carol by Karl Leuner (originally called Wiegenlied, written in 1813) and arranged by Charles Macpherson (1870-1927) is published in Carols for Choirs 1 for SATB choir. However, with the lack of tenors and basses in many parish churches, the carol can often lie beyond the ability of many. Hence this arrangement for three-part choir: the range of the baritone part is from low A to high E flat, which should be achievable by most men (or women singing lower parts) in amateur choirs. Being such a beautiful, gentle and touching carol, this arrangement retains its original, simple a cappella nature, although a piano reduction is provided for practice purposes.
