This is the very emotive "Solace" by Scott Joplin. Originally for piano, this arrangement is carefully scored for clarinet quartet (three Bb soprano clarinets and one Bb bass clarinet). This is a wonderful piece for both concert and contest. This is arranged within the comfortable playing range of the instruments, in a common keysign, with technical considerations worked out and with many useful rehearsal numbers for easy preparation. With attention to the rubato character of the piece, this is a highly expressive piece and very suitable for clarinet quartet.

This movement also stands as a separate item, if any other quartets out there would like to play it.The quartet consists of 3 B flat clarinets and one bass clarinet.The 11-time rhythm illustrates the clumsy fat bishop's attempts to dance as Robin Hood forces him and could be accompanied by some amusing body language on the part of the performers or by an accompanying group of dancers and actors.The pdf file contains the score and parts.The sound sample is the live performance by the Iris Clarinet Quartet in February 2013.
