Cascades in Brass for Brass Quartet by Jeremy Niles Kempton is a showpiece with lots of sparkle. If the dynamics are faithfully observed at times it will create a rippling effect like that of cascading waterfalls. This piece will add considerable flair in either a concert or church setting. It is intended for advanced performers but actually sounds harder than it is. If the trombonist uses the marked positions he will find it surprisingly easy to keep up with the valved instruments.

Instrumentation is for 2 Trumpets in B-flat, Horn in F, and Trombone.

Here is what composer Henry Wolking says about his new work, Prognosis for Brass Trio:

Prognosis For Brass Trio is an eight-minute four-movement work for trumpet with flugelhorn double, trombone, and tuba. At this stage of my writing career, Prognosis has become a fairly common word heard and directed to myself, family, and friends. As such, I feel obliged to offer a few prognoses of my own for one of my long-standing and favored brass chamber music groups. Each movement is titled and informed by a particular prognosis.

The first movement, Chromatic Disorder, is, well, highly chromatic, and rhythmically active. The second, Common Tone Cold, is a melodic, gentle lullaby. The third, Take A PentaTonic, is a 6/8 romp of pentatonic scales connected by common tones. The fourth, Your Bill, Payable In C Notes, is an active closer that uses, the note C in every beat and cord of the entire movement. I predict you?ll feel much better after playing or listening to these prognoses.

Instrumentation is for Trumpet/Flugelhorn, Trombone and Tuba. This work is about 8 minutes in length and appropriate for advanced performers.

"The Mannequin Challenge is a work for brass quintet inspired by the participatory video fad in which a group of people are shown posing stock-still for the camera while music is playing in the background. It became a social media participating video fad in November 2016 (with the hashtag #mannequinChallenge). Since then it has had become a world-wide phenomena, sort of like the Ice-Bucket Challenge, which I considered writing about, but then got cold feet. This work inverts the mannequin challenge sequence in that the music plays first, and then the musicians freeze in brief silence. Though the freezes are only in 3/8 in between the particularly beguiling musical interludes, they may be extended to any length. Long live social media and brass quintet mannequin challenges!"

This piece is scored for traditional brass quintet with Trumpets in B-flat and for advanced performers of about 2+ minutes in length.

Alexa Kuberra has arranged Two Pieces for Brass Quartet by the late Romantic American composer Edward MacDowell. The works are originally for the Piano and work beautifully for the four brass.

JensBodewalt Lampe (November 8, 1869 ? May 26, 1929) was a Danish-born Americancomposer, arranger, performer and band-leader of ragtime and syncopated dancemusic. He wrote this march in 1909

The Dance of the Miller is from The Three-Cornered Hat Ballet by Manuel de Falla, composed in 1916-17 from a commission by Sergei Diaghilev. The music is passionate, full of lush Spanish harmonies and rhythms.

Charles Decker has perfectly captured the style of the music which works perfectly for Brass Quintet (Trumpet parts are in B-flat).

The arrangement is about 3 minutes in length and is appropriate for advanced performers.

The Planets, Op. 32, is a seven-movement orchestral suite by the English composer Gustav Holst, written between 1914 and 1916. Each movement of the suite is named after a planet of the solar system and its corresponding astrological character as defined by Holst.
"Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity", is the most thoroughly English section of the work, with Jupiter's high spirits projected through a broad, infectiously energetic melody. A stately, more serious processional theme (a sort of chorale) then enters, its royal dignity fully intact, after which the vigorous melody returns.

This arrangement for brass quintet contains the following parts: Bb Trumpet 1, Bb Trumpet 2, F Horn, Trombone, Tuba.

Five Musical Moments for Brass Quintet by Petros Shoujounian is a work of contrasts. Each movement is unique and different than the others, yet they have an integrated feeling when performed as a whole work.

The work is about 11 minutes in length and appropriate for advanced performers.

E lucevan le stelle (And the stars were shining) is a romantic aria from the third act of Puccini's opera Tosca, written in 1900. It is sung in Act 3 by Mario Cavaradossi (tenor), a painter who is awaiting his execution and in love with the singer Tosca. (Wikipedia).

This aria is one of the most beloved in all the operatic repertoire and has been captured beautifully in a lovely arrangement for brass quintet by Vikention Gionanidis. The music is appropriate for advanced performers.

The instrumentation is for 2 Trumpets in C (B-flat parts supplied as well), Horn, Trombone, and Tuba.

Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance March No. 2, dedicated to Charles Villiers Stanford, was composed and first performed in 1901. It has always lived in the shadow of the more famous March No. 1 but is regarded as the finest of the six military marches by some.

This fine arrangement for Brass Quintet (Trumpet parts are in B-flat) by Charles Decker is appropriate for advanced performers and is about 3 minutes in length.

The All-Night Vigil (Vespers) Op. 37 is an a cappella choral work first performed in 1915. It's fifteen movements consist of Russian Orthodox Church texts. Rachmaninoff had stopped attending church, but he felt compelled to write some of his own chants in the style of the Church, calling them "conscious counterfeits".

The work is enormous, of over one hour of the most beautiful choral writing with Rachmaninoff's patented rich harmonies, melody and polyphony.

Paul Erion has arranged this work for moderately advanced 10-part Brass Ensemble of: 4 Trumpets in C, 2 Horns, 3 Trombones & Tuba.

In the Bleak Midwinter is a Christmas carol based on a poem by Christina Rossetti, published in 1872. Holst set it to music in 1906 and it has become the most popular of the many settings.

Matt McCrady's fine arrangement for Brass Quintet is tender and rich in sound, appropriate for moderately advanced performers and is about 5 minutes in length.

Niels-Ole Bo Johansen has composed an unconventional set of Four Unpretentious Fanfares for Brass Quartet. Each brief work has a succinct statement. The four are titled:

They are about 30-40 seconds in length each and appropriate for moderately advanced performers having the following instrumentation:

Sousa considered the Semper Fidelis March his finest work. He composed and dedicated it to the U.S. Marine Band in 1888 after a request by President Chester Arthur.

The instrumentation is for standard Brass Quintet: Trumpets in B-flat, Horn in F, Trombone & Tuba with optional piccolo trumpets and optional rubber hose for the horn in the middle section.

An arrangement of the regional anthem of Brittanny for Brass Quintet.

Bro Gozh ma Zadoù (Breton: Old Land of My Fathers) is the anthem of Brittany, sometimes presented as the "national anthem" although it has no official status. It is sung to the same tune as that of the national anthem of Wales, Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau, and has similar words. The Cornish anthem, Bro Goth Agan Tasow, is also sung to the same tune.

The Breton lyrics are the creation of François Jaffrennou in 1897, and the music was that composed by James James, of Pontypridd, Wales, for Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau. The new song was first published in 1898, and circulated as Henvelidigez ("Adaptation"). It was chosen as national anthem (and a song to celebrate friendship between the Welsh and Bretons) in 1903, at a Congress of the Union Régionaliste Bretonne held in Lesneven. Maurice Duhamel adapted it for the piano, and it was first recorded by Pathé in 1910.

James James (also known by the bardic name Iago ap Ieuan) (1833?1902) was a harpist and musician from Pontypridd, Wales. He composed the tune of the Welsh national anthem Hen Wlad fy Nhadau (also known as Land of my Fathers).

He was born on 4 November 1832, at the ?Ancient Druid? inn, Hollybush, in the parish of Bedwellty, Monmouthshire. He was the son of Evan James (1809-1878) and Elizabeth Stradling of Caerphilly. His father, a Welsh versifier under the pen-name of leuan ab lago, moved with his family about 1844 to Pontypridd, where he carried on the business of weaver and wool merchant. His son James assisted him in the business.

James James composed the melody which was later known as Hen Wlad fy Nhadau in January 1856. At first it was known as Glan Rhondda (The banks of the Rhondda), and gave rise to the tradition that the tune had come to him as he walked on the bank of the River Rhondda. His father, Evan James, wrote the lyrics that eventually became the words of the Welsh national anthem.

A memorial to James James and his father, in the shape of two figures representing the muses of Poetry and Music, stands in Ynysangharad Park, Pontypridd. James James died in Aberdare in the Cynon Valley 11 January 1902,[3] he is buried in the local cemetery at Aberdare in the same grave as his wife Cecilia and daughter Louisa.

Borodin's String Trio in G minor dates from 1855, one of his early works for 2 Violins and Cello. It is based on the once well-known Russian folk song Chem tebya ya ogorchila (What have I done to hurt you?). The music is about 7 minutes in length in one movement with the lovely bitter-sweet theme and eight variations.

The Trio in G minor was largely forgotten until the mid 20th Century. Justin Chiang's lovely arrangement for Brass Quintet for advanced performers works exceptionally well.

"Down to the River to Pray" (also known as "Down in the River to Pray," "Down in the Valley to Pray," and "The Good Old Way") is a 19th-century American folk hymn variously attributed as an African-American spiritual/slave song, Appalachian song, and gospel song. In recent years, it was popularized in the 2000 motion picture, "O Brother, Where Art Thou," and by folk/bluegrass performer Alison Kraus.

In this arrangement, the first three presentations, or verses, of the pentatonic tune employ simple, traditional harmony and limited instrumentation, evoking the simplicity of folk-singing style. Verse 4 is characterized by a direct key change up a fourth (from concert Eb to Ab) and more active harmonies. After a short, two-bar modulation up one more step to Bb major, the final verse begins with rising parallel harmonies under the melody in trumpet 1, and continues with more contemporary harmonies. The piece concludes with a simple "Amen"-like ending.
