Piano Solo - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.894345 Composed by Scott Joplin. Arranged by Theoria Music. 20th Century,Folk,Traditional. Score. 5 pages. Theoria Music Publishing #3674659. Published by Theoria Music Publishing (A0.894345). Original Rags was an early ragtime medley for piano and was the first of Scott Joplin's rags to appear in print, in early 1899, preceding his Maple Leaf Rag by half a year.Scott Joplin (November 24, 1868 – April 1, 1917) was an American composer and pianist. Joplin achieved fame for his ragtime compositions and was dubbed the King of Ragtime. During his brief career, he wrote 44 original ragtime pieces, one ragtime ballet, and two operas. One of his first and most popular pieces, the Maple Leaf Rag, became ragtime's first and most influential hit, and has been recognized as the archetypal rag.Joplin grew up in a musical family of railway laborers in Texarkana, Arkansas, and developed his own musical knowledge with the help of local teachers. While in Texarkana, Texas, he formed a vocal quartet and taught mandolin and guitar. During the late 1880s he left his job as a railroad laborer and travelled the American South as an itinerant musician. He went to Chicago for the World's Fair of 1893, which played a major part in making ragtime a national craze by 1897.Publisher: Theoria Music PublishingWebsite: https://sheetmusicmarket.comÂ

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1203884 Composed by Scott Joplin. Arranged by Jane Stavrinoudis. 20th Century,Contemporary,Jazz,Ragtime. Score. 8 pages. Jane Stavrinoudis #802448. Published by Jane Stavrinoudis (A0.1203884). Grade 8 – Upper Advanced Piano soloWith this sheet music, you can play Maple Leaf Rag by the King of Ragtime writers, Scott Joplin. It's an accurate, carefully created piano arrangement of the full piano solo that became Ragtime’s first and most influential hit. Maple Leaf Rag is a multi-strain ragtime march with athletic bass lines and offbeat melodies. Each of the four parts features a recurring theme and a striding bass line with copious seventh chords. The piece may be considered the archetypal rag due to its influence on the genre; its structure was the basis for many other rags, including Sensation by Joseph Lamb. This arrangement is for advanced players in E flat Major and Two Four Time and includes a brief history and analysis.

Bass Guitar,Instrumental Duet,Ukulele - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.908534 Composed by Bernard Franklin, Ezra Read, James Scott, and Scott Joplin. Arranged by Thomas Preece. 20th Century,Contemporary. 39 pages. Preece Music #3375389. Published by Preece Music (A0.908534). Ragtime music, traditionally played primarily on the piano, is a genre which enjoyed popularity in the early 20th century. It is characterised by a syncopated, or ragged rhythm in the melody, played over a steady bassline. Ragtime was preceded by its close relative, the cakewalk – a similarly syncopated dance. This collection presents five such pieces arranged for ukulele and bass some well-known, and some less so. The ukulele and bass parts are shown on opposite pages of each double page spread of this collection, allowing the musicians to play from the same music stand, and for the student to easily crossÂ-reference the two parts. Scott Joplin is celebrated as the United States’ first well-known black composer, making his name as a writer of piano rags. His life was a constant struggle with adversity, and Joplin died relatively young in 1917, at the dawn of the recording age. Few remembered Joplin’s music until a revival in the 1970s brought The Entertainer and others to the world’s attention. Nowadays Scott Joplin has taken his rightful place in the gallery of great American composers.

The Rags included in this collection are, The Entertainer, The Maple Leaf Rag, The Easy Winners, The Elite Syncopations and The Favorite.

They have been arranged as solos for one Cello with piano accompaniment, and include all sections of the original compositions. You will download one pdf file that contains both 22 pages of piano score and the 10 page solo part. These pieces are suitable for players at an intermediate and advanced intermediate level. Musicians will find these Ragtime solos ideal for formal and informal performances, light and fun, yet still a serious and vitally important part of the American musical heritage. The overall performance time for all five is around 25 minutes.

Teachers will enjoy using these arrangements as a fun way to help with phrasing, syncopated rhythms and light articulation.

Click on the YouTube link to see and hear samples from the collection. Euphonium,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1112417 Composed by Scott Joplin. Arranged by David McKeown. 20th Century,Jazz,Ragtime. Score and part. 8 pages. David McKeown #714451. Published by David McKeown (A0.1112417). The most popular of Scott Joplin’s piano rags during his lifetime, The Maple Leaf Rag was published in 1899. Joplin lived for a while in Sedalia, Missouri and the Maple Leaf Club in that town is thought to have provided the name for this composition. It provided Joplin with a steady income for the rest of his life, and while he requested that it be played at his funeral, his wife refused as she felt it inappropriate. It was the first track on Joshua Rifkin’s famous 1970 revival recording of Joplin’s music and, never waning in popularity, it has featured in hundreds of films. This version for Euphonium and Piano includes all four sections of the original composition. The tempo in recorded versions varies widely between 72 and 126, so the marking of 92 is a suggestion only. Musicians at an advanced intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The overall performance time is around four minutes. Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with phrasing, syncopated rhythms and light articulation. Click the YouTube link to hear a full performance of the clarinet version of this arrangement. Instrumental Duet Flute,Instrumental Duet,Trumpet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1109577 Composed by Scott Joplin. Arranged by David McKeown. 20th Century,Jazz,Ragtime. Score and parts. 5 pages. David McKeown #711950. Published by David McKeown (A0.1109577). This duet version for one Flute and one Trumpet includes all four sections of the original composition. The tempo in recorded versions varies widely between 72 and 126, so the marking of 92 is a suggestion only. The YouTube link is a full performance of the Clarinet version of this arrangement. Musicians at an advanced intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The overall performance time is around four minutes. Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with phrasing, syncopated rhythms and light articulation. There are many more top quality arrangements and compositions by David McKeown for you to browse at http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/publishers/david-mckeown/6203
