Oboe, basson, violin, viola, double bass - Digital Download SKU: IZ.BCMW164 Composed by Chun-Wai Wong. BCMCC (Bassoon Chamber Music Composition Competition). Score and Parts. 77 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #BCMW164. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.BCMW164). 9 x 12 in inches. What is life for? Wealth? Power? Happiness? Are you really feeling happy with your pursuits? Or would you just go ontirelessly? Do you really feel happy when chasing after those things? And what will you get by the end of your life?I have seen everything that is done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity and a striving after wind. (Ecclesiastes 1:14)The piece is inspired by the book of Ecclesiastes from the Bible. Musically, it is inspired by a traditional Japanese theatricalperformance Kabuki. It is purely musical theatre: the piece unfolds with the wheezing of hollowness of work and life, andit is followed by a wild dance of chase -- a chase after fame and fortune in hopes of getting rid of the depression. Yet, thestruggle only brings fleeting pleasure and pressing anxiety to chase after another goal. Feeling exhausted, one realizes thatwhat one has done are all meaningless: the hollowness never goes away. Only after a hoarse cry does one start to realize themeaning of life, a meaning that transcends all materialistic goals; and only after understanding the reason to live can one take abreath of life. There are references to traditional Japanese instrumental writings, including the sound of Shamisen imitated by pizzicato instrings, drum imitated by pizzicato chords and beating of strings on fingerboard, Japanese flute imitated by the high oboe. Theshifting focus between different musical layers represents the movement of the imaginary dancer who moves forward andbackward on the stage unceasingly.ABreath of Life was commissioned by the Hong Kong Composers' Guild.

Voice (SSAA) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1240428 Composed by Anastasio Rossi. Arranged by Anastasio Rossi. A Cappella,Barbershop. Barbershop Quartet. 3 pages. Anastasio Rossi #835806. Published by Anastasio Rossi (A0.1240428). Think of the story behind this music as about a young lady who  just loves the waltz, and loves to sing and dance to its lilting triple time.  Her dancing partner is a dashing, ever so handsome young man, who sweeps her off her feet and takes her breath away with his charm and grace, as they float away on the wings of A Dance In Triple Time!I originally composed this piece as a little warm up ditty for my chorus, but as I worked the melody and the harmony, it grew into just a little bit more than a warm up exercise. We always enjoyed singing this little piece for our audiences. And they always enjoyed hearing it. One caveat; The lyrics go by quickly! Leads, use your best diction and pronunciation, so the story doesn't get lost. Harmony voices, keep the melody prominent, by always singing your la-las at least one dynamic notch below the melody!Choose the waltz tempo of your choice - very relaxed to very lilting in 1.  Base your choice on being able to deliver the lyrics with great clarity, especially in the faster passages. Be sure to observe the accelerandos, broadening tempos, a tempos, legatos, and staccatos. They all have much to do with delivering the style of this piece, especially the off beat la-las. Some pairs are staccato, in other pairs, the first la is legato, the second la is staccato. The metronome marks more accurately describe the accelerandos and broadenings. On the repeat at 11, a slight increase in the tempo will add urgency and intensity. Keep the melody prominent as it moves to different voices, beginning at 37. Maintain the crisp staccato harmony against the legato melody, and enjoy the change to full legato for all voices.  Anastasio Rossi May 2023Learning tracks are available at no cost from the composer: AAR@prodigy.net.

The Man That Got Away

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.844624 Composed by Harold Ar…

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.844624 Composed by Harold Arlen. Arranged by Phil Beaman. Contemporary,Jazz. Score. 8 pages. Phil Beaman #4413011. Published by Phil Beaman (A0.844624). The Man That Got Away is a repertoire standard that was written for Judy Garland and later recorded by Frank Sinatra. I wrote this version for one of my students who was auditioning to get into an Arts School. She was not a singer and not going into a vocal programme, but was required to do a vocal piece anyway as part of the audition process. Thus I have kept the vocal range limited to a comfortable 10th, from A4 to C5; most of it between Middle C and the next C. Further, this student had severe asthma and thus poor breath control. So I wrote this arrangement with short phrases, lots of caesurae, breath marks, rests, rubato, and a piano interlude just past the middle. The interest lies in the constantly shifting moods from swagger, to blues, to smoky jazz, to angry declarations, to wistful melancholy, to chanted recitation, to expressive rubato. This is underscored by a piano part which incorporates all of the above into a contemporary jazz style of rich extended chords. But you won't be thinking of any of these things when you perform this stunning piece because it just all works together to create a fresh, jazzy twist to this old classic.P.S. My student won her spot in the school with this song:)8 pages, 4 minutesRecording is of the male version (The Gal That Got Away).

CURVE, Between the Octaves - A Piano Duo Suite (Movement 4 of 7)

Instrumental Duet,Keyboard - Digital Download SKU: A0.1497852 Composed by Jenni Roditi. 21st Century,Classical,Contemporary. 17 pages. Jenni Roditi #1074264. Published by Jenni Roditi (A0.1497852). Piano Duo 2 pianos/4 hands. Curve, Between the Octaves points to a fugal past, where lines enter and build in stately flow. It invites lines to intermingle, without assuming they will all arrive somewhere, or at the same time. A certain intensity builds, then scales, both up and down, free themselves from the discussion of the interleaving lines. The chromaticism suggests curving between harmonies, and is nearly always ambivalent. An assertive chordal climax intervenes to shake off the tensions, yet this peels away into further curvatures that twist and twirl, until a final resting point agrees to present itself. Names of all the movements in the suite Between the Octaves in the right order are Initiate, Surrender, Thread, Curve, Encircle, Ritualise, Ignite. The whole suite follows a long line from movement 1 to movement 7. However, individual pieces are well suited to be played alone too. Piano Duo is ideally two Steinway grands, otherwise, whatever is available. An enjoyment of the tensions and relationships generated between the two instruments: grand-upright, upright-electronic keyboard is to be explored as a positive. Each piece creates its own world in the suite and can be part of smaller subgroups taken from the suite, in any combination, but the order of the pieces needs to be maintained if more than one is played. Here is a taste of the background to the musical world of this 53 minute compositional suite. During a reflective time I read the following: The whole philosophy of dharma art (Buddhist art) is that you don't try to be artistic, but you just approach objects as they are, and the message comes through automatically. (Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, from 'True Perception The Path of Dharma Art.' Shambhala 2008, p.133.) The 'objects as they are' became the 'octaves as they are'. As the pieces were composed the octaves had a centring and clarifying role that allowed other material to circulate around or play against them. They acted as pivots, repetitions, drones, ostinati, pointillist nodes, pedals, melodic features, struts, harmonic turnpikes, breathing spaces, bass lines: musical imperatives. The octaves called the musical shots most of the time. When the music pulled a semitone up or down and away from the octaves (as it did quite often) it was especially telling in the context of the ringing spaces the octaves were creating. I became interested in the subtle dislocation that two pianos could provide. By dislocation I mean a degree of tension between the natural acoustics of the two instruments in the room and the players idiosyncrasies as musicians. The whole point of this work was to examine the nature of my syntax, grammar, and compositional thinking. The title demanded one thing above all: what notes am I going to use between these octaves?? My choice of notes was derived in most instances from the tempo, pitch, and rhythm of the initial octaves at the beginning of each piece alongside the individual word titles that I set out to explore as musical images. The audio was developed from Sibelius software, via MIDI to Logic samples of a Steinway grand piano.

Piano Duo - 2 pianos, 4 hands. Surrender, Between the Octaves was the piece that was composed first in the suite. It exposes a simple call to return to the beginning, to return to a pure act of listening. This note..ah, now that note.. oh. This is how the piece was written - one note at a time. Listening from within a space (its original title) of resonance, of edges and meetings, of disappearances and repetitions that reflect on this gentle body of notes. There is a slow hearing that may, or may not create a tone-journey.Names of all the movements in the suite Between the Octaves in the right order are Initiate, Surrender, Thread, Curve, Encircle, Ritualise, Ignite. Published by Jenni Roditi (A0.1497861). Piano Duo 2 pianos/4 hands. Ritualise, Between the Octaves finally found its identity with the word ritualise. It began as announce, became pronounce, then declare and went as far a pontificate for a title. At that point I realised I was mocking my own music and needed to take it more seriously. Ritualise brought out a meaning to the music that I hadn’t wanted to admit to. It is quite folk-like, in a primal and entrancing kind of way. I can imagine a communal dance for some ceremonial purpose in this music with both public and private elements.Names of all the movements in the suite Between the Octaves in the right order are Initiate, Surrender, Thread, Curve, Encircle, Ritualise, Ignite. Piano Duo 2 pianos/4 hands. Thread, Between the Octaves grew out of the call the make a single line weave between the octaves. Line was the original title. Thread, as a word, brings more texture to the title and describes what the line is actually doing, threading around the harmony. A secondary thread is heard after a while, echoing and shading the primary line, with its own treble weave. It was like going back to the beginning of making melody again.Names of all the movements in the suite Between the Octaves in the right order are Initiate, Surrender, Thread, Curve, Encircle, Ritualise, Ignite. Instrumental Duet,Keyboard - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1497857 Composed by Jenni Roditi. 21st Century,Classical,Contemporary. 19 pages. Jenni Roditi #1074269. Published by Jenni Roditi (A0.1497857). Piano Duo 2 pianos/4 hands. Encircle, Between the Octaves, originally called rotate as its impetus was to generate a steadily rotating music. Encircle was later chosen as a more evocative word. The harmony surprised me as it suggested shifts and colourations that I would not have expected to conjure. Two upper rotating parts with melodic narrative are supported by bass and baritone lower parts. The final section adds a dance-like short form to end what could otherwise have run and run and run.

Published by Jenni Roditi (A0.1497866). Piano Duo - 2 pianos/4 hands. Ignite, Between the Octaves began with the impetus of static ‘pulsation’ (its original title) on repeated octaves. The piece is a fizzing dash of nodal vortices, small, then larger, spinning and tumbling and all the way to the finish line. This piece brings the complete suite of 7 pieces to a dynamic close, with a sense of ignition to new beginnings. The music echoes the opening F octaves of Initiate (movement 1). Names of all the movements in the suite Between the Octaves in the right order are Initiate, Surrender, Thread, Curve, Encircle, Ritualise, Ignite. The whole suite follows a long line from movement 1 to movement 7. However, individual pieces are well suited to be played alone too. Published by Jenni Roditi (A0.1497831). For Piano Duo - 2 pianos/4hands. Initiate, Between the Octaves, the opening piece in the suite, is a sparky, rhythmic and post-modern hoquet, of some wit and almost perpetual bounciness. A ricocheting of quickly contrasting dynamics with occasional switches to distant moments. Three big plunges into legato emotional flow, release the popping bubbles of the fiery staccato material. A short final chorale settles and grounds the quick cuts, swoops and build ups that have propelled the whole piece. Names of all the movements in the suite Between the Octaves in the right order are Initiate, Surrender, Thread, Curve, Encircle, Ritualise, Ignite. Twenty-three patriotic and seasonal selections, hymns, gospel songs and choruses

Twenty-three patriotic and seasonal selections, hymns, gospel songs and choruses From the Forward: EASY ENSEMBLE MUSIC is a collection of patriotic and seasonal selections, hymns, gospel songs and choruses. It has been prepared for use by church ensembles in various types of programs and services. It is also practical for school ensembles, which today are an important adjunct of the instrumental music teaching program. This volume is intended to help provide worthwhile and instructive music that is interesting to perform for players just beyond the beginner stage (or Grade II as defined by the Instrumentalist Magazine.) It will probably be used most often by youngsters who will need to spend time in individual practice before performing the selections with a group. However, more experienced musicians will find the contents pleasant to play without being taxing. Most selections are of modest length, have ample time for lead parts to catch their breath, and do not make undue demands upon range, technique, or rhythmic virtuosity. All selections are scored for a five (or four) part brass ensemble. Performing groups must have at least one book for each part (with the possible exception of Part 5, Tuba) in order to obtain satisfactory harmony. The parts are distinguished as follows: Part 1: C Instruments (Violin, Oboe, Flute); 1st Bb Trumpet or Cornet (Bb Clarinet) Part 2: 2nd Bb Trumpet or Cornet (Bb Clarinet) Part 3: Trombone (Baritone bass clef, Bassoon, Cello); F Horn (English Horn); Eb Horn (Alto Saxophone, Eb Alto Clarinet) Part 4: Trombone (Baritone bass clef, Bassoon, Cello); Baritone treble clef (Tenor Saxophone, Bass Clarinet) Part 5: Tuba or Sousaphone (Bassoon or Cello with occasional lower range limits, String Bass 8vb) WESLEY L.
