Small Ensemble Bass Clarinet - Level 3 - Interactive Download SKU: A0.1081182 Composed by Horace Silver. Arranged by George Kaplan. This edition: Interactive Download. Jazz. Score and parts. 9 pages. Duration 134. George Kaplan #3twZIB0zYvsynuaepMfK1d. Published by George Kaplan (A0.1081182). Key: F# major.Horace Silver had not seen the insides of a recording studio for 750 days before laying down Silver 'n Brass. His previous record, In Pursuit of the 27th Man, was unusual in its instrumentation (vibes) and for including a number of non-Silver tunes. (But the cover of Liberated Brother, from that record, did go on to become the backbone of his late 70s live shows.) So, as a prolific composer, Horace had a large backlog of tunes at his disposal as he entered the studio in January, 1975 and the 6 cuts on Silver 'n Brass are among his best. Horace broke the sessions into two: a straight-ahead post-bop session with Ron Carter (whose chubby bass spews artifacts all over the place, in his best late-70s style) and Al Foster on drums and another, more commercial session featuring Bob Cranshaw and Bernard Purdie. Wade Marcus later added horn overdubs employing an absolute who's-who of LA session players. (Word quickly got out among the cognoscenti, and Silver 'n Brass became hugely popular among fellow musicians, much to Horace's delight.) Highlights of the disc include: the composer's propulsive piano solo on Dameron's Dance, young Bob Berg's paint-peeling tenor solos (especially riveting on Kissin' Cousins) and the driving flat 9th chords of Adjustment. The tune Barbara, a gorgeous waltz dedicated to Horace's then-wife, has become a latter-day standard of sorts (Amazon's MP3 store lists a whole bunch of covers). Sophisticated Hippie, a tribute to Duke Ellington, features quite a rhythm-section workout in its closing vamp: this session would be the only time that Horace and Bernard's paths would intersect. There are no vocals this time out, just fully arresting post-bop of a high order.

Powerful, moving, and dramatic, Yetzer Hara by Daniel Despins is a perfect concert opener for any program!A note from the composer:In Jewish mysticism, the “yetzer hara” refers to one’s “evil inclination,” or the desire to commit acts that are considered evil or immoral. The yetzer hara is controlled and restrained by the “yetzer hatov,” or the inclination to do good things and commit acts of kindness. Rabbinic teachings emphasize the importance of both inclinations – without the yetzer hara, people would have no sense of motivation or purpose to their actions, but the yetzer hatov is necessary to ensure that those actions do not harm others. Thus, the two inclinations depend on each other for balance. This teaching resonates with me very personally, as someone who was prone to fits of anger while I was growing up. My adolescent years tested me as I struggled to keep my yetzer hara in check. Even at the time of this piece’s creation, I was struggling with the evil inclination, which was feeding feelings of animosity I had towards people that I believed had wronged me. This is a battle I will fight for the rest of my life, but I believe that balance will come with time and patience. We must all fight to keep our inclinations balanced, so that we are able to mature emotionally as human beings..

This piece paints a landscape in the listener’s mind of a Tolkienesque type world set in a dreary mystical landscape. I found the guitar was the perfect instrument to shape the kinds of harmony, counterpoint and colors needed to illustrate this mystical landscape.

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1368172 Composed by Franz Liszt. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. 19th Century,Chamber,Contest,Festival,Historic,Romantic Period. 14 pages. Jmsgu3 #952494. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1368172). Liszt's Consolations is a set of six solo piano works known for their enchantingly lyrical and poetic nature. They express Liszt's genuine religious mysticism and are composed in either the key of E or Dâ™ major, each with a distinctive style. These pieces are considered relatively easy to play and appreciated for their serene sweetness and melancholic characteristics. They take the musical style of Nocturnes, with the third Consolation being an homage to Chopin's nocturnes. Liszt's ability to bring out the melody notes and subdue the harmony is necessary in interpreting these pieces. They are cataloged as S.172, a part of Liszt's more extensive work catalog created by Humphrey Searle.

Jmsgu3 #3499833. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549473). Score: 8 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano part: 2 pages. Duration: 3:10. An introspective and meditative work with a lot of dynamic and phrasing nuance. Works well for church meditations or recital encores.BackgroundOp.11/2 Alto Clarinet version. First of all, Scriabin composed mostly for the solo piano and also the orchestra. This is probably because he was a gifted pianist and therefore certainly appreciated the piano. Scriabin grew up in the late Romantic period, consequently, he was fond of the great piano masters of the time. As a result, he wrote his first noteworthy compositions in the manner of Chopin and Liszt.FormsLikewise, Scriabin used many of the same forms as Chopin. These certainly include the étude, prelude, nocturne, and even the mazurka. In contrast, as he developed his own sense of style his music became more and more unusual. So, the last five of his Piano Sonatas do not have a key signature and therefore lean towards atonality.PhilosophyScriabin also developed a keen interest in philosophy and likewise poetry. He was above all particularly fascinated by Nietzsche, Delville, and Blavatsky. Consequently, he finally established his own ideas about metaphysics and certainly mysticism. Scriabin consequently advanced theories about the relationship between color and musical keys.SynesthesiaHe also may have experienced a condition called synesthesia where he could probably sense a response created from a different stimulus. Therefore, it was almost as if he could see music and hear colors. Scriabin, therefore, arranged the colors in a circle similar to the circle-of-fifths and assigned each key area a color. Finally, he assigned the key of C to the color red, while the key of G was orange. Similarly, he assigned D to yellow, A to green, and so forth. Strangely, he did not differentiate between major and minor key colors. MultimediaHence, his ability to translate colors into music certainly gave Scriabin a most noteworthy interest in creating multimedia events. Furthermore, He designed his biggest work, the Mysterium, to last an entire week. Even more, Scriabin made plans not only for music, but also colored lights, incense, and dancing. He designed the performance to occur in the foothills of the Himalaya mountains. The Mysterium was never performed, and only sketches of the work remain.Modern PerformancesIn modern times, we often experience performances of Scriabin’s most famous completed works accompanied by colored laser lights and incense. These are the Poem of Ecstasy (completed in 1908) and the Poem of Fire (completed in 1910). The lighting effects for these early performances were accomplished by the clavier à lumiéres. It was a keyboard instrument that projected colored light onto a screen.

An evocation of the lost world of Eastern European Jewry before World War II, heard and felt through the filter of a Twenty-First Century American sensibility. I am not so much trying to evoke the prosaic aspects of daily life, my focus is on the intense Mysticism that flourished in those settings, the otherworldliness of the spiritual leaders who would not renounce their faith in the face of persecution, and eventually extermination. It is hoped that this will be a welcome addition to the repertoire of the English Horn.

Baroque,Classical,Contest,Easter,Festival,Instructional. Score. 8 pages. Flavio Regis Cunha #749054. Published by Flavio Regis Cunha (A0.1148922). Prelude and Fugue in E minor, BWV 855, is the 10th prelude and fugue for keyboard (harpsichord) in the first book of The Well Tempered Clavier, composed in 1722 by Johann Sebastian Bach. The Prelude in E minor, BWV 855a, features as No. 18 (Praeludium 5) in the 1720 Klavierbüchlein für Wilhelm Friedemann Bach. BWV 855a may also refer to both this Prelude and a Fughetta in the same key, an early version of BWV 855. Ólafsson teamed up with director Magnús Leifsson to shoot the video in a fish processing plant in Iceland, complete with grand piano. They use the fish, an early Christian symbol, to allude to the mysticism and timelessness of Bach’s music – as changeable as water, it has to be understood at a metalevel, given the many different ways in which composition, transcription and performance can be interwoven. Everything is there in Bach’s music, says the pianist, who transports the composer’s keyboard writing to new shores on his latest recording. Icelandic pianist VÃkingur Ólafsson releases video featuring music from his new album, Johann Sebastian Bach.Advanced Intermediate Format: Concert, 9 x 12 inches 8 pagesPLUS: Engraved and Published with Urtext Kapellmeister Music Fonts.

Alexander Siloti made a piano arrangement in B minor of the Prelude BWV 855a.Ólafsson teamed up with director Magnús Leifsson to shoot the video in a fish processing plant in Iceland, complete with grand piano.
