Double Bass Quartet SKU: BT.YE0036 Composed by Joseph Lauber. Classical. ...(+)
Double Bass Quartet SKU: BT.YE0036 Composed by Joseph Lauber. Classical. Set (Score and Parts). Yorke Edition #YE0036. Published by Yorke Edition (BT.YE0036). Four movements, top part advanced. Several recordings and many broadcasts. Duration c.13'.
Programme Notes:
The Swiss composer Joseph Lauber was born at Ruswil near Lucerne in 1864. After studying with Heger in Zürich and Rheinberger in Munich, Lauber worked with Diémer and Massenet in Paris. With Massenet he learnt a great deal about orchestration, a subject that he subsequently taught until the end of his life at the Geneva conservatoire as well as piano and composition. He died in 1952.
Lauber's 193 catalogued works are many and varied. He wrote for all instruments and in every genre except oratorio and opera. Among his output areseveral works for double bass, most written for Prof. Hans Fryba, a personal friend with whom he worked as a double bass and piano recital duo. Fryba was one of the leading players in Europe in his day and was principal of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. First was Theme and Variations (1936-7) and a Rhapsodie with orchestra (1937). Three Walzes followed in 1939, a Gavotte and Gigue, a Sonata and then in 1943 Fantasie de Concert, written for the Geneva Competition. Four Caprices appeared in 1942, the same date as the Quartet for double basses which was dedicated to Fryba and written for the Berlin Philharmonic Double Bass Quartet, one of the first ever such ensembles to exist.
The Quartet for double basses was revived by Klaus Stoll in the 1970s for the Philharmonic Double Bass Quartet at that time to play. It was subsequently published in 1975 by Yorke Edition by kind permission of the composer's son Edmund Lauber.

Double Bass; Piano Accompaniment - easy to intermediate SKU: HL.49019606 Double Bass and Piano. Composed by Peter Wittrich. This edition: Saddle stitching. Sheet music. String. Kontrabass-Geschichten fur Kontrabass und Klavier. Classical, Contemporary. Softcover. Composed 2004. 64 pages. Schott Music #KBB16. Published by Schott Music (HL.49019606). ISBN 9790001187176. Teachers again and again ask for easy-to-play double bass music suitable for lessons or the competition 'Jugend musiziert'. The composer Peter Wittrich from Munich has undertaken this task and composed a varied cycle of seven easy pieces for double bass and piano. All pieces have been tried and tested in double bass lessons and are well positioned on the instrument. Some can even be played in the first position. The collection covers various styles, including blues, tango and classical. The piano part is more demanding so that the demands made on the ensemble playing are somewhat higher. An interesting addition to the repertoire for lessons and concerts. Contents: Giovannino discovers the Blues • Gostly Cadenza • Walking Bass with Johann Sebastian Bach • Salute to Vienna with a kiss on the hand for Elise • Danse grotesque • Drei Chinesen mit dem Kontrabass (Theme and Variations) • Basso doble. $25.99 - See more - Buy online

Francois Rabbath : Trombes d?eau for double bass (AL 30 748) The international fame of bass player Francois Rabbath acknowledges both the untiring teacher, author of a Nouvelle technique de la contrebasse, which a whole generation of students, desirous of freeing themselves from the fetters of traditional teaching, has taken up, and the inspired soloist, unsparing of himself in concert. For several years now, he has become accustomed to spending a few days in the summer in Kansas City (Missouri) to give master classes and a concert there, in the framework of the ?KC BassFest?. In July 2016, a moving surprise awaited him: on the stage of the American Jazz Museum a full-length portrait was unveiled, painted by local artist Ruthie Ingram from photos taken during his recital the previous year. By way of thanks, Rabbath dedicated Trombes d?eau to her, a solo piece lasting approximately six minutes, composed at the instigation of the International Society of Bassists for the 2017 edition of the International Double Bass Competition. Conceived as a series of short variations on an impassioned theme, the work emphasises evocative glissandi and explores double stopping and artificial harmonics without ever sacrificing the essential: the pleasure of musical expression.. $12.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Basso (cello/double bass) (solo: db - 0.2.0.1(ad lib.) - 2.0.0.0 - harps - str) SKU: BR.OB-15143-26 Urtext. Composed by Johann Baptist Vanhal. Edited by Tobias Glockler. Orchestra; stapled. Orchester-Bibliothek (Orchestral Library). In Cooperation with G. Henle Verlag. Solo concerto; Early classical; Classical. Part. 8 pages. Duration 20'. Breitkopf and Haertel #OB 15143-26. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.OB-15143-26). ISBN 9790004342039. 10 x 12.5 inches. The unbroken popularity of Vanhal's sole double bass concerto in competitions and for practice and concert purposes is reason enough for us to publish the work in Breitkopf Urtext. The edition profits from Tobias Glockler's experience of many years. As with the other great double-bass concertos of the classical Viennese repertoire (Dittersdorf, Hoffmeister), Glockler arrives at convincing solutions. He began by filtering out a solid musical text from the source (which was not always free of contradictions) that was supplied with many additions. The disposition of the solo part required detailed knowledge of performance practice, since the work was written in the historical Viennese double bass tuning, and a few passages cannot be played without difficulty on a modern instrument. As with Dittersdorf and Hoffmeister, the piano reduction makes it possible to use three different double-bass tunings (solo, orchestral and Viennese). Moreover, it contains the editor's virtuoso cadenzas as well.I have performed the Vanhal in Viennese tuning and it was my thesis topic so I am thrilled to see an edition that makes this tuning so accessible. I highly recommend this all-encompassing edition. (Marian Heckenburg, Stringendo). $7.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks
