Elle connut du succès à sa première mondiale le 10 décembre 2008à Salt Lake City (Etats-Unis) interprétée par l?orchestre Utah Philharmonia sous la direction de Robert Baldwin avec Eddy Vanoosthuyse comme soliste. Par la suite l?oeuvre fut mise de côté pendant quelques années surtout parce que les agendaschargés des deux protagonistes ne leur permettaient pas de trouver le temps pour un enregistrement discographique. Pour finir l?oeuvre fut enfin enregistrée en juin 2015 à Nagoya (Japon) avec le Central Aichi Symphony Orchestra mené par l?étoilemontante vénézolane SergioRosales. Piano reduction with solo part-In 1947 Aaron Copland accepted a commission from Benny Goodman ‘The King Of Swing’ for a piece for solo Clarinet and Orchestra. Copland always wary of repeating himself welcomed the challenge of composing a Clarinet concerto – ‘it might stimulate some fresh ideas’. He knew from the start that a bow to jazz was called for and he hoped also to demonstrate the lyrical qualities of the Clarinet. Dedicated to Goodman the Concerto for Clarinet was finished by the end of 1948. Clarinettists were soon welcoming this new virtuoso piece and it has since become a standard in the Orchestral repertoire.The concerto consists of two movements played back-to-back connected by a Clarinet cadenza. The dreamy and melodic first movement is followed by a free rondo dominated by melodic Latin American jazz themes and is resolved in the end with an elaborate coda in C major that finishes off with a Clarinet glissando – or 'smear' in jazz lingo. Originally written for Clarinet and String Orchestra with Harp and Piano in this edition Concerto for Clarinet is arranged for Clarinet with Piano accompaniment by the composer. He than became the musical coordinator for the Royal Ballet of Flanders and he wrote several ballet compositions for symphony orchestra. He has his own close-harmony and jazz trio, and he works freelance as a composer and as artistic director in several musical productions. The Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra was written in October 1791 about two months before Mozart's death and destined for Anton Stadler the famous clarinettist. The first movement exists in a sketch in G major for Basset Horn and Orchestra composed towards the end of 1789.This edition has been published in two versions: in the original in A for Clarinet in A and in a transposed version in B-Flat for Clarinet in B-Flat in order to comply with the popular request for that instrument. Available here is the version for Clarinet in B-Flat as arranged by Ernest Roth and revised by Frederick J. Thurston.
