The composer writes: 'My approach to writing these works for intermediate level lever harp was to fully embrace the diatonic and/or modal properties of the lever harp and to write into the strengths of the instrument. I also wanted to create works which whilst embedded in stylistically familiar territory also open up less familiar technical and musical elements for new players. For example the ???celtic??? themed works Coire Fhionn Lochan and The Road to Kilchurn Castle are derived from very familiar elements but which challenge the players ability to deal with irregular times and juxtaposed rhythmic material and Reverie which tests the harpists ability to maintain evennesswhile controlling gradual changes of tempo and dynamic within a very familiar technical landscape. One of the other important things was to write works specifically for the lever harp (as opposed to pedal harp) especially given that so much lever harp repertoire consists of arrangements or re-arranged pedal harp music. The lever system offers many advantages over the pedal system including the opportunity to employ chromatic possibilities that would otherwise be impossible. So some of these works indulge and celebrate these idiosyncrasies. I hope you will enjoy playing them as much as I enjoyed writing them.'

Reduced Version-The Full Score of Eventide the epic composition inspired by the story of Edith Cavell compiled from texts relating to her imprisonment composed by the great Patrick Hawes. This is the reduced version scored for Soprano SATB Chorus Unison Semi-Chorus Trumpet Harp Organ and Strings. This work is dedicated to Sheringham and Cromer Choral Society and Gresham's Holt who first performed this work in Norwich Cathedral on the 12th of July 2014 to commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War. Lasting around 45 minutes this large-scale work has the subtitle 'In Memoriam Edith Cavell' who is commemorated here as a nurse to German and British wounded who went on to provide refuge to escaped and lost British soldiers who were enabled by her to return to England. As a result of this she was arrested for 'treason' and condemned to death. While in prison her only possessions were her Bible her Book of Common Prayer and a copy of the Imitation of Christ. The libretto as compiled by Andrew Hawes is made up of extracts from these books as well as other materials relating to her final days. This tribute to a brave and courageous life is fitting for a composition commemorating the First World War. The tragedy and pathos surrounding Cavell's life is hard for us to understand but by placing words so personal to her in the context of a piece of beautiful music it forces us to think and remember while also condemning the actions of so many figures of authority on an innocent and pious nurse during that horrific period.Â

American composer organist and harpsichordist Daniel Pinkham (1923-2006) studied the Organ and music theory at Phillips Academy in Andover before studying at Harvard. His Christmas Cantata is an exciting addition to the choral repertoire. Pinkham was famously moved by a concert in Andover given by the Trapp family singers in 1939 soon after they had escaped Austria. He quoted 'Here suddenly I was hearing clarity simplicity. It shaped my whole outlook.' Pinkham''s career saw him teach at the Boston Conservatory and the New England Conservatory of Music as well as being organist of King''s Chapel inBoston for 42 years. His compositions varied from symphonies to art songs althought predominantly his music was religious in nature frequently incorporating a choir and Organ. Christmas Cantata represents Pinkham''s influence of 20th-Century trends often embracing plainchant joining Stravinsky and Hindemith''s revival of early music. For all aspiring choirs seeking varied modern repertoire Christmas Cantata provides an exciting performance work.

The Full Score for Peter Maxwell Davies’ fourth in a series of ten string quartets commissioned by the Naxos Recording company first performed by the Maggini Quartet on 20th August 2004 at the Chapel of the Royal Palace Oslo Norway as part of the Olso Chamber Music Festival. Composer Note: The fourth Naxos quartet was written in January and February of 2004 with the intention of producing something lighter and much less fierce than itspredecessor an unpremeditated and spontaneous reaction to the illegal invasion of Iraq.I returned to the well-known Brueghel picture of children's games (1560 now in Vienna) which had been the inspiration for my sixthStrathclyde Concerto for flute and orchestra. These illustrations liberated my musical imagination but I feel it would limit the listener's perception to be too specific about which game relates to exactly which section of thework. Suffice it to say that there is vigorous play - leap-frog bind the devil with a cord truss wrestling - alongside quieter pastimes - masks guess whom I shall choose courting odds and evens. The single movementjuxtaposes these activities as abruptly and intimately as they occur in Brueghel. Rather as the eye is taken into different perspectives and proportions of scale within the picture taking liberties which would never be presentin for instance Brunelleschi architectural drawings so here with a constant sequence of transformation processes I have distorted the neat precise implications of modal progression expressed in the unison opening phrase(from F to B through A sharp/B flat) so that the ear is led en route into the sound equivalents of strange passageways and closed rooms: sicut exposition ludus. As work on the quartet progressed I became aware that Iwas reading into and behind the games adult motives and implications concerning aggression and war with their consequences. It was impossible to escape into innocent childhood fantasy. The nature of the F to B

Sonatas - Six Pieces of Music for Large Wind Ensemble Percussion Harp and Pian...(+)
Sonatas - Six Pieces of Music for Large Wind Ensemble Percussion Harp and Piano by Poul Ruders (2011). Preface / Programme Note Normally when being confronted with the term ´sonata´ we tend tothink of a substantial composition for piano solo in three movements predominantly by Mozart or Beethoven. The word however derives from the Italian ´sonare´ meaning ´to play´. In the 16th. Century acomposition entitled ´sonata´ merely indicated a piece of music forinstruments as opposed to the ´cantata´ - a piece involving voices. The Italian cantare simply means´to sing´. The present suite SONATAS is a composition subtitled ´six pieces of music for large wind ensemble percussion piano and harp´. It opens with a REVEILLE a short ´wake-up call´ a fanfare opening the gate into what follows. The second movement is called PASTORALE and certainly is that a peaceful unfolding of gentlechords and sounds of a bucolic nature. Nothing dramatic happens whereas in the third movement SCHERZO the wood winds chaseeach other in a wild relay run. Then all of a sudden the mood changes and we are plunged rightinto the middle of the darkest night. In the NOCTURNE unnervingly subtitled sinistro the low rumbling chords in the trombones and prickly outburst in oboes and horns form the sinister back drop to this wordless Grand Guignol. Which merges seamlessly into PANORAMA an unfolding festive almost pageant like ´sound-scape´of dancing rhytms and jubilant scales. Slowly however the tempodrops and the former boisterous body of sound is being slowly and mercilessly ´skeletonized´ - and at the end there is nothing left. RETRAITE - 'the last post'. The day is over the sun sets. Parts are for hire: hire@ewh.dk. Orchestration: 4444/6441/timp.3perc/hp.pf

Selected Songs chosen by Francois Le Roux-Widely acclaimed by music lovers for over a century Selected Songs of Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924) are here collected into an anthology complete with an audio version in the form of a download card. Excerpted from the 1st collection published in 1879 Au bord de l’eau and Ici bas bestow an aura of internal reverie on Sully Prudhomme’s simple poems made palpÂable by the harmonic refinement and vocal fluidity that constitutes the very essence of Faurean charm.  Several vocal pages selected in the 2nd volume (1897) continue to be favourites: Les Rosesd’Ispahan restored to their dreamy stillness Les Berceaux whose oscillation evokes the swaying of boats and the very nostalgic Clair de lune in which Verlaine’s words set to music for the first time inspired Fauré to write what would become one of his masterpieces: La Bonne Chanson.  From this cycle drunk on lovelorn lyricism the collection retains Puisque l’aube grandit an exalted melody if there ever was one and La lune blanche luit dans les bois a nocturnal landscape in F sharp major – two pearls that distil the same mystery of solace.

1001 Nights in the Harem. Par SAY FAZIL. 'My Violin Concerto consists of four movements whose inspiration is loosely connected with Scheherazade’s One Thousand and One Nights. The first movement is set inside the harem; a variety of women from the harem are introduced, each with her own different personality. The second movement is a frenzy of dance – in effect a party night with an abundance of different types of dance music. The third movement depicts the next morning and consists primarily of variations on a well-known Turkish song. The fourth movement begins dramatically, but develops during the course of the movement more and more into a reminiscence of all the previous events and the work culminates dreamily in a happy mood with sensuous oriental sounds.
As appropriate for an oriental soundscape, the orchestra includes a series of Turkish percussion instruments such as a kudüm or bendir, but also glockenspiel, marimba und vibraphone, celesta and harp. It is however the solo violin which tells the story and also accompanies the listener through the entire work. The violin part is highly virtuoso and unites the four movements into an intensely atmospheric whole in which the solo violin soars off into a solo cadenza between each movement, sometimes accompanied by one of the percussion instruments.
As is customary, the present piano reduction is initially intended as an aid for the study of this work, but during my tour programmes with Patricia Kopatchinskaya and Burhan Öçal we have utilised this material to create a trio version for violin, piano and percussion.' Portraits of Women:

ensemble Novello & Co Ltd.
for soprano solo horn and large ensemble - Full Score-Five Portraits of Women i...(+)
for soprano solo horn and large ensemble - Full Score-Five Portraits of Women is a set of songs with large ensemble derived by Aulis Sallinen from arias from three of his operas: The Red Line The King Goes Forth to France and Kullervo. Each draws a portrait of a woman compelled in her role by fate or a mission. The vocal lines differ only very slightly from their original counterparts in the operas but the revised orchestral accompaniment creates an extraordinary new soundscape as background to the arias consisting as it does of a woodwind orchestra four cellos a harp and a piano. There is also a solo French horn which acts as a sort of masculine counterweight to the female vocalist. Tuiskuaa lunta (It is stillsnowing) (from The Red Line) is the story of Riikka waiting in her snowbound cabin for the arrival of a good life-enhancing message. Carolinen häät (Caroline’s Wedding) (from The King Goes Forth to France) describes the deranged Caroline Tammatukka (Caroline with the Thick Mane) in a feverish hallucination involving the King whose arrival she awaits. The King is in fact already married but Caroline believes that he has left France for their wedding. Minä odotan sinua paimen (When we meet this evening) (from Kullervo) is the aria of the smith’s young wife who waits impatiently for the arrival of Kullervo. Itkenkö minä sinua? (How can you ask if I’ll mourn you) from the same opera describes the all-embracing love of a mother which encourages yet overrules the scorn of others for the youth. On tämä silta tehty naisista (That’s the bridge that’s made of womankind) (from The King Goes Forth to France) is the song of Caroline Iloinen [The Nice Caroline] explaining the biological eternal mission of woman as the bearer and birth-giver of life. The libretto of the opera The King Goes Forth to France is written by Paavo Haavikko; the librettos of The Red Line and Kullervo are by the composer. Five Portraits of Women was commissioned by the Finnish Radio Symphony
