Bb Clarinets In 4 Parts-Alan Bullard wrote these two short pieces in 1992 for massed clarinets in a pupils' concert but they are equally suited to a quartet of clarinets. The Fanfare gives an opportunity for all players to move together in precise rhythm: the Canon gives scope for rhythmic independence but with musical material that all players can learn together. The lowest part of the Fanfare and the optional two-part canon do not go above the break and the pieces are suitable for beginners to intermediate players.AB This music was previously published by Harlequin Music.

Three character pieces useful for recitals. The complete work has a duration of five minutes. Originally written for three B Flat Clarinets and Bass Clarinet but can also be played using four B Flat Clarinets-an optional fourth Clarinet part is included.

French composer and conductor Henri Tomasi (1901-1971) published Three Divertissements for Clarinet Quartet in 1964. As with his other wind compositions Three Divertissements was well-received by audiences. Tomasi was born in Marseille but his Father and Mother were originally from La Casinca in Corsica. Despite being pressured into musical studies by his parents Tomasi dreamed of becoming a sailor and during the summer he stayed with his Grandmother in Corsica where he learnt traditional Corsican songs. However in 1921 he began his studies at the Paris Conservatoire and went on to become ahigh profile composer and conductor. Tomasi did not forget his Corsican routes often incorporating themes of the songs he had learnt during the summers with his Grandmother into his compositions. The Three Divertissements are named; 1) Proceedings 2) Masquerade and 3) Rounds. This Tomasi piece is suitable to an advanced Clarinet Quartet providing an exciting alternative addition to the ensemble repertoire.

5 Original Pieces for Clarinet Quartet. A composition in five movements that sound as if from a former age. They are in fact newly composed pieces but, stylistically speaking, are ?historically accurate?. They can be performed separately or one after the other. The important thing is that the lead part at any point is given enough ?space? in terms of dynamics and overall balance. Old music, newly composed, at times cheerful and at others solemn, which create the very special charm of this composition.

Solo and Chamber Works-Signs Games and Messages are series for solo instruments and small chamber ensembles. Each of the three notions refers to an essential factor in Kurtág's music. Signs ties in with the composer's period of study in Paris as a young man when he could not compose merely put graphic signs on the paper. (Additionally the word points to inspiration gained from the art of Klee and Michaux.) Games links with his nine-volume series for the piano with that title. Messages conveys the very personal content of these works in that these short pieces are actually diary notes and missives to musicians and friends important to Kurtág.The collection - like his earlierfive series for stringed instruments - does not form a coherent cycle. The pieces can be played individually or in various orders or among pieces from Signs Games and Messages written for other instruments.
