Wolfgang Amadeus and his sister Maria Anna older by five years were admired as being 'Wunderkinder' (prodigies) on theirtravels through Western Europe between 1763 and 1766. The piano sonatas ?with a violin accompaniment? K. 6 9 were composed in Paris. It is wonderfully fresh and varied music. with marked and unmarked string part-Just like many other violin virtuosos of the 19th century Pablo de Sarasate also composed a series of pieces for violin and piano (or orchestra) for his own concert use. Highly virtuosic salon pieces with echoes of national folkmusic traditions from all over Europe are at the centre. Sarasate published his eight Spanish dances in four books between 1878 and 1882. They alternate between fiery passion and a yearning expressiveness and are undoubtedlyamong his most successful compositions. In masterly fashion Sarasate here mixes up Spanish folk tunes with arrangements of popular compositions of the time. As in the case of the Henle Urtext edition of Sarasate???s Zigeunerweisen(HN 573) a violin wizard of our own time is responsible for the fingerings and bowings: Ingolf Turban.

Sonatina In G Op.100 was written in New York in 1893. Scored for Violin and Piano it comprises four movements: Allegro Risoluto - Larghetto (Indian Lament) - Scherzo and Trio: Molto Vivace - Finale:Allegro. It was intended for the composer’s children making the simple melodic lines and unadorned harmonies an accessible favourite of many young violinists. A delightful and rewarding piece it is perfect for any recital.Antonin Dvorak (1841-1904) was best known for his New World Symphony composed in the short time he spent in America the rest of his career was spent in his native Bohemia and the rest of Europe.

The 'Romanian Folk Dances' undoubtedly rank amongst Bartók's most popular compositions. The earliest version is scored for piano (1915) and was published by Universal Edition in 1918. The composer himself orchestrated this version in 1917. Several other chamber music arrangements (for example Zoltán Székely's version for violin and piano) were not by Bartók although he authorised them. The musical material derives from Bartók's collections of folk music which date right back to 1904 when he wrote down a melody sung by a Hungarian peasant girl. In the course of extensive travels throughout Eastern Europe Bartókcompiled an enormous collection of folk tunes (by 1918 his collection comprised no fewer than 2700 Hungarian 3500 Romanian and 3000 Slovak dances and songs) which would in all probability have been lost had Bartók not written them down. As it was some of them found their way into his compositions. In 1908 Bartók jotted down dance tunes in Transsylvania. They are the source of the 'Romanian Folk Dances'.

Par WILHELMJ AUGUST. August Wilhelmi est né à Usingen (Taunus) en 1845. À un âge étonnamment précoce, il a développé en virtuose du violon éminent. Il était sur ??la recommandation de Liszt qu'il avait reçu une éducation musicale au conservatoire de Leipzig entre 1861 et 1864e complets Pendant cette période, il a aussi joué au Gewandhaus. Ayant pris connaissance avec Richard Wager depuis 1862, il s'est transformé en son disciple ardent. Elle a été le principal à la première représentation de la 'Anneau du Nibelung' à Bayreuth. Au terme de ses études, il a commencé sa carrière comme soliste avec de nombreuses tournées l'ont emmené tout autour de l'Europe qui a d'abord et plus tard même à l'étranger. En 1871, Wilhelmi a reçu le titre de Royal professeur. Il a fondé son école de violon propre à Biebrich sur le Rhin. De 1886 jusqu'en 1893 il a enseigné à Dresde Blasewitz. En 1894, il a pris le poste de professeur de violon à la Guildhall School of Music de Londres où il mourut en 1908. Dans ses compositions, Wilhelmj suivi la nouvelle école allemande, qui - sous la direction de Franz Liszt - se démarquer du style du classicisme viennois.
