This short work for clarinet and piano began as an unaccompanied melody which Bernstein copied from the wall of his periodontist friend Dr. Ron Odrich and later dished-up as a jazz clarinet melody for his friend who also happened to be a jazz clarinettist. Odrich and his composer partner Larry Fallon then used the tune as a basis for a very stylish work for clarinet and piano.

Composed for the Paris Conservatoire contest in 1938 Denneriana is a piece for Clarinet with Piano accompaniment by André Bloch. Its title is a reference to the creator of the Clarinet Johann Christoph Denner. Ideal to demonstrate the skills of advanced players this piece is highly lyrical and really enjoyable for both the players and the audience. It starts with a grandiose introduction perfect for this work. It also includes a Clarinet Solo cadenza half-way through the piece and finishes in a highly harmonious way. This piece requires numerous skills and good knowledge of the instrument. André Bloch (1873-1960) was a French musician composer and professor. He won the Grand Prix de Rome for his piece named Cantata. Amongst his most famous students were Jehan Alain and Fernand Oubradous.

Par RAE JAMES. This work was written for and dedicated to the clarinettist Mark Walton OAM by way of a thank you for all his fine recordings and performances of my music. It was premiered in London by Mark and his accompanist David Miller OAM, on June 29th 2014 in the Princess Alexandra Hall at Royal Over-Seas League, Mayfair in a concert entitled ‘Clarinet Hidden Treasures from England’ which was organised to launch Mark’s CD of the same name. The two-disc album, as its title suggests, contains works for clarinet and piano in a variety of styles by English composers including Mike Cornick, Jonathan FeBland, Paul Harris, Paul Harvey, Joseph Horovitz, Gordon Jacob, Christopher Norton and Sid Phillips. This sheet music album includes two pieces: Cloudy Bay is in the north east of New Zealand’s South Island, brought to world fame by the fine Sauvignon Blanc wine sharing the same name. This movement is very dreamy and reflective in nature and was inspired by Mark’s exquisite, silky sound. Beatin’ about the Bush! is a celebration of Mark’s highly successful pioneering outreach programme of workshops bringing music to young musicians in the Outback of Australia and beyond. Debussy’s Première Rhapsodie is one of two concertante works completed premiered and published during his lifetime. He was commissioned to write it in 1909 for the final examination at the Paris Conservatoire in 1910. Debussy orchestrated it in the summer of 1911. While transferring the clarinet part from the already published version for clarinet and piano he made a few subtle changes particularly in m. 201 which has been a bone of contention among clarinettists for over a century.The present scholarly-critical publication is the first Urtext edition of the orchestral version. This is a straight forward arrangement for clarinet and piano of the popular theme tune from Pride and Prejudice written by Carl Davis.
