Historical information about Händel's Water Music Suites is limited, but certainly these works were intended for two, possibly three, parties given by King George I on the Thames River, London, between 1715 and 1736. Händel and his orchestra played on a barge. Since then the some twenty-two separate original pieces have been organized into three Suites and nicknamed 'Water Music?, each having a separate key and likely corresponding to these river parties. This transcription of Water Music Suite II for saxophone quartet has two purposes: to make this music available to saxophonists for performance and education, and to provide in one volume the entire Suite II. The exception to the latter, because of the limits of endurance, is the exclusion of the short Adagio, a brief interlude between the fi rst two movements. Included though are the Allegro, Hornpipe, Minuet, Lentement, and Bourree. These works were originally meant for an outdoor performance, and one of the original intentions of the saxophone was to play in French military bands, also an open-air purpose. The original scoring of brass, woodwind, and string instruments (but no continuo) transcribe well for saxophones. Matching the ranges of instruments of the original to the saxophone quartet was a primary objective. In addition, this arrangement strives to disperse melodic material to all four saxophones so as to make the arrangement pleasing to all the members of the quartet while providing variety to an audience. Any dynamic, articulation, and tempo markings are to be taken only as suggestions so as to allow interpretation by the performers. The musical study and performance of all styles while using examples of composition and performance that represent excellence is necessary for saxophonists who wish to be well-rounded musicians. For the above reasons saxophonists are urged to listen to recordings of the original orchestration in order to learn and imitate proper interpretation of Baroque style. There are currently a number of excellent recordings of Handel's Suites on period instruments, such as (but not limited to) those by conductors John Eliot Gardiner, Christopher Hogwood, and the ensemble Tafelmusik. This edition features all the scores including the conductor’s. Very difficult it is dedicated to the “Marcel Mule Quartet”. 3 Original Pieces for Saxophone Quartet. Three works with quotations from well-known composers are contained in this tongue-in-cheek collection. Otto M. Schwarz has produced an outstanding recording of these works with members of the Slovak Philharmonic, which is available on all streaming and download platforms. 1. THE AMADEUS WATCH: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart?s own watch ? if he had one ? ticks away. The ticking carries us back in time with a piece that stylistically imitates the music of the 18th century in melody, harmony and rhythm. 2. COMPOSERS DINNER IN HEAVEN: At the music publisher De Haske, a composers? dinner was an integral part of trade fairs or meetings. The dinner was very popular among anyone who sat at it, not least of all because it offered one the opportunity to chat informally. ?Based on such a meeting, Otto M. Schwarz has a composed a work that describes an imaginary dinner of great classical masters on a cloud in the sky. Guess which composers are present by the references in the form of musical quotations and stylistic devices! 3. SCHERZO FOR SAXOPHONE QUARTET: The work, in 12/8 time, moves in a rapid furioso. Underscored by a continues eighth note rhythm, the work creates in the listener the sensation of a frantic rollercoaster ride. The theme moves throughout all the parts and, following a chromatically moving chord sequence, ends in a dramatic crescendo.

Quartet by Pierre Max Dubois is a piece for four Saxophones also known as Concertino initially composed for four Saxophones and a String Orchestra. Andante Pierre Max Dubois (1930-1995) is a French composer who was awarded the Prix de Rome in 1955. Mainly composing classical music hisworks are mainly for woodwinds. He is one of the founder of Les Six which included his professor Darius Milhaud.

Tim Kleren is a renowned composer, conductor, and percussionist from Luxembourg. He works as a full-time member of the Luxembourg Military Band 'Musique Militaire Grand-Ducale' and serves as a teacher at the music school 'Union Grand Duc Adolphe' (U.G.D.A.). In 2016, he successfully completed his Master's degree in Wind Band Conducting with great distinction. Dédiée au quatuor ' Diastema ', ' Imaginary dances ' est une pièce qui s'articule autour d'une ligne de baryton quasi unique qui sert de soutien aux multiples variations des autres partenaires du quatuor. Chacun y développe son solo, tel un improvisateur qui y exploite l'originalité de son langage. A l'image du parcours ' crossover ' de Philippe Geiss, les colorations des différentes parties de cette pièce sont librement inspirées de rythmes, de couleurs, de modes de jeu, issus de toutes les influences qui s'étendent de la musique classique et contemporaine au jazz en passant les musiques du monde. La couleur générale est ainsi très proche du son des musiques improvisées.La coda, d'abord douce comme un souvenir puis violente pour finir, nous rappelle que la vie est quelques fois injuste et ne nous fais fait pas de cadeau. Cette conclusion est un moment d'émotion qui rend hommage à Philippe Lecoq, grand saxophoniste, membre fondateur du quatuor ' Diastema '. / 4 Saxophones (Quatuor)

Contrastant avec l'introduction, un développement de la mélodie s'ensuit, soutenu par des notes en valeurs longues. Une reprise du thème mène le développement vers une conclusion colorée.HAURRAK IKA SUZUELa gaieté se manifeste dès l'introduction de cette danse traditionnelle à caractère ostinato ternaire. L'accompagnement de la quatrième voix nous plonge dans un mouvement de valse malgré le chiffrage de mesure en 6/8. La mélodie est alternativement exposée par les première et quatrième voix tandis que les deuxième et troisième voix, plus discrètes, développent un soutien harmonique.BOUBLITCKHYCette danse aux accents typiquement russes est particulièrement intéressante dans la mesure où elle permet aux instrumentistes d'élaborer une lecture très personnelle. Malgré les indications de tempos, l'interprétation reste libre, dégageant un charme unique mêlant joie et nostalgie.DANSE BASQUE ESPAGNOLEDès les premières mesures de cette charmante Danse basque espagnole, la musique dépeint l'ambiance de cette magnifique région d'Espagne. L'introduction à l'unisson affirme admirablement le mode mineur quand survient, le mode Majeur. Le contraste est saisissant. Love is All Around is a song that was recorded in 1967 by the English band The Troggs. In 1994 it was covered by the Scottish band Wet Wet Wet as part of the soundtrack to the film Four Weddings and a Funeral. This catchy version was an enormous hit which is still played a lot on the radio today. Arranger Seb Skelly too felt inspired and stirred by this romantic song, resulting in this brilliant arrangement for saxophone quartet that will appeal to players as well as listeners. A very suitable piece for all occasions that have to do with love!
