Par JANACEK LEOS. Leos Janacek, almost seventy years old, characterised the wind sextet he had just finished as 'a kind of memory of youth' in a letter to Kamila Stösslová. The suite Youth was written in the summer of 1924, prompted by the composer's need to take stock on the occasion of his 70th birthday. Janacek also heard the Parisian ensemble Societe moderne des instruments a vent several times in Salzburg and Brno. He expanded the classic quintet scoring by the addition of a bass clarinet. Janacek referred to an earlier part of his life in this work not only by quoting a theme from March of the Blue Boys, but particularly through his general freshness ofexpression, astute humour and use of form which adhered to the classical style. The piece was enthusiastically received by both critics and the public and appeared in print as early as 1925 issued by the Prague publisher Hudebni matice. Danceries' Set II a été commandé par Keith Allen et Birmingham Symphonic Winds, soutenu par PRS for Music Foundation et La Fiducie RVW, avec l'aide des membres suivants du régime' Full Score. La première mondiale de ce travail a été donné par Birmingham Symphonic Winds, menées par Keith Allen, au CBSO Centre, Birmingham le samedi 9 Avril 2011. Cette deuxième série de Danceries continue le format, établi dans les Danceries populaires (Set I), de l'utilisation des airs et des danses de Maître à danser Playford (17e siècle) pour former la base d'une suite de danses prolongée. Dans cet ensemble, les mélodies ont été plus abstrait et seul projet un écho lointain de leurs formes originales, mais comme avant, chaque mouvement est autonome, coloré et direct, avec son ambiance distincte. Les mouvements extérieurs - Bawbee Jennie et Galliarda Peascod de - partager un emploi de conduite de percussion écrit avec un air militaire. Toye Tom Tinker et facilité Heart (mouvements deux et trois) sont les deux paramètres de mélodies originales. Tous les mouvements sont plus étendues que dans le premier set, avec une utilisation plus libre et l'approche du matériau- mélodies se produisent maintenant dans différentes touches et sont soutenus par une plus grande variété de coloration harmonique. Par HIGGINS GAVIN. Der Aufstand (German for 'riot') is not a descriptive work, nor is it solely based on the riots of 2011. It does, however, draw on the idea of opposing forces and escalating anger. The work falls into two contrasting sections that are linked by a series of repeated, 'screaming' chords. A slow build drives the first section from a single pitch to a blazing orchestral tutti. The second section is a fast and wild series of fanfares and driving rhythms that ultimately cannot be sustained. In many ways this mirrors the first. Both sections open on single tones (Bb and E) and grow to a climax of brass and hammered chords. The first performance took place on the last day of the 2012 Olympic Games.
